How Does the Peterson License Plate Light # PM436B Ground
Updated 07/07/2015 | Published 07/06/2015 >
Question:
I am interested in the Petersen Trailer Light and plate holder. I see that it only has one wire so I assume that the ground is the body of the trailer through self tapping screws. I dont have a steel trailer but am using a aluminum hitch carrier. Can I use an aluminum bodyied carrier as a ground?

Expert Reply:
The Peterson License Plate Light # PM436B that you referenced grounds through the mounting hardware. Since you have a cargo carrier you would need to run the ground back to the ground wire of your trailer connector.
Since hitch cargo carrier don't have ground wires that run to them the fact that yours is aluminum would not matter.
