Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2015 Mercedes GLK250

Updated 06/30/2015 | Published 06/28/2015

Question:

I have a 2015 GLK250 with a 3,500# tow rating and 350# max tongue weight. I would love to increase my towing capacity. Any idea if this making is looking at creating a similarly rated hitch for the diesel? Thanks!

According to the owners manual for the 2015 Mercedes GLK-Class the 250 and 350 both max out at 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight. Check the towing a trailer section of the manual to confirm.

Even if a trailer hitch is rated higher the vehicle would still be limited to the lowest rated component in the system; in this case the vehicle at 3,500 pounds.

For a trailer hitch I recommend # C13155. It is rated for 3,500 pounds just like the vehicle. I also recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.

If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, use the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.

And for trailer wiring you can use # C59236 to add a 4-Way flat connector at the back of the vehicle.
