Difference Between 1 and 2 Wire Trailer Clearance Lights

Question:
Hi, I have a question about some Led clearance lights, I want to add a set of rectangle lights to the back of my utility trailer and was wondering if it makes a difference if I buy some that have 1 wire hookup or 2 wires? I believe my factory trailer running lights are fully grounded through the vehicle and not grounded to the trailer but was wondering if a 1 wire set will still work

Expert Reply:
If where you plan to mount the clearance lights is metal that touches the trailer frame then a 1 wire clearance light would work just fine. The difference between the 1 wire and 2 wire lights is that the 1 wire lights ground through their mounting hardware and the 2 wire lights have to be run to a metal surface of the trailer that touches the frame or to the main ground of the trailer.
