Question:
I have a 2014 Chevy Sonic hatchback. How much clearance will I lose under th rear of the vehicle with this hitch installed. Do people report their car scrapes the pavement much with this hitch installed?

Expert Reply:
Trailer hitch # C11240 is for sedan models of the 2014 Chevy Sonic. For your hatchback I recommend # 24878. With this hitch installed it measures 10 inches from the ground to the top of the receiver opening. That means from the ground to the bottom of the receiver is approximately 8-1/2 inches, which isn't much.
None of the customers who have reviewed this hitch have indicated any problems with scraping the ground. this is likely due to the short distance between the hitch and the rear axle.
If you want to use the hitch for an accessory such as a bike rack or cargo carrier then you have to make sure the accessory is rated for use with a Class I trailer hitch. Also, with a bike rack, you are limited to 2 bikes maximum on a Class I hitch.
