This solved a problem that Honda neglected to address in its Gen 1 model, which was locking the tailgate. The video made the install very simple and straightforward. I did not have the issue that many others had with reinstalling the top tailgate cover. I would recommend this product without hesitation.

Overall, the installation was fairly easy. The video provided by Etrailer was excellent. The lock works but seemed a little tight. I loosened last screw on post and is working better. Delivery was quick. Pleased with purchase.
kit should have a washer that fits once you add on the metal piece. Having to grind a washer to make it flat to fit was sad
I own a 2007 Honda Ridgeline truck, which I absolutely love!. I wanted to put a cover over the bed of the truck so I could carry personal items in the bed and have them covered. I then desired to have the capability of locking the tailgate, so I purchased the "Pop & Lock Custom Tailgate Lock". The instructions were very comprehensive and easy to follow, and they even had a video of how to install the kit, which I found very helpful! The conversion worked great... for a while.
The Honda tailgates not only lay down flat when opened, but they will swing out to one side, also. After about 3-4 months the swing out feature stopped working, because I could not get the release handle to work, which is part of the whole mechanism in the tailgate. Then a couple of months after that the locking feature stopped working as well.
I've taken the tailgate apart a couple of times and made some adjustments, but I still don't have the ability to lock my tailgate anymore, nor have the handle on my swingout work.
I installed the tailgate lock about a month ago and have waited a while to see that everything worked OK and it works great on my Honda Ridgeline. It took about 2 hours to install and it fit well except for two mounting screws that had washers on them that needed to be smaller so I removed them and replace them with correct size. The photos that came with the unit were so small and hard to see I couldn't really use them but the written instructions got me thru in good shape. After I was finished I went back to web site and there was a really good presentation on installation that one could easily follow. Thanks
The PAL 6100 is the manual tailgate lock kit for the Honda Ridgeline pickup. Those who own them know that Honda did not put a lock on the tailgate that opens 2 ways. Fortunately, this kit provides an economical and easy DIY fix for the issue. The kit instructions are very straightforward and include photos of how to install the mechanism pieces. Once you get the tailgate cover off and look at the photos the process of install takes 20-30 minutes. Easy. Unlike many instructions today, these are well written and the photos add real value. The quality of the product seems well engineered. Combination of plastic and metal but it all works as it should. Makes you wonder why the engineers at Honda didn't do this from the start. Thankfully, PopNLock put this together. This really helps now that I also have a rolling metal bed cover on the truck. I really recommend this product for those in same situation. Also, very pleased with the service from etrailer.com. The guys there followed up on the order, shipping, etc. Great service and communication. I recommend them as well.
Mark T - 11/13/2015Overall it appears to be a very well thought out product. Instruction sheet packed with lock system is close to being worthless. Very dark, murky graphics. Use the etrailer install video which is very good. For the price I would expect a better quality lock cylinder, at least all metal vs plastic. Instead of grinding down the handle mounting washers I simply dug around in my junk box and came up with stainless steel bolts, lock and flat washers that were a perfect fit. I also added a dab of white lithium grease on several points to try and make a smoother lock/unlock transition. I chose the manual version because I couldn't see the need for the tailgate to lock and unlock every time I enter and leave the truck. I will leave it unlocked unless I have something to secure. This goes quite well with my Peragon tonneau cover. I would recommend it.
Daniel - 04/27/2019The lock worked well on my '13 Ridgeline and secures the dual-opening hinged gate in both planes, locking both handles at once. Note that for a Ridgeline you will need a T50 star driver to remove the tailgate liner. Installation was easier than expected after I got oriented to the supplied instruction pictures which are adequate but change orientation for some reason as you go. This lock did not require me to move my backup camera at all. One thing to note is that the factory bolts that are re-used to install the lock mechanism have non-removeable washers crimped on them which will not fit over the lock mechanism as described, but I simply swapped these out for the two adjacent non-crimped factory bolts without any problems (you will see these while working, they are obvious). The key-hole mechanism is sufficient but stiff, but I will get out the WD40 which I am sure will remedy. I recommend this product and would purchase from this seller again.

Your installation instructions are adequate. Perhaps you can improve the instructions by reading my comments in response to a review by Steve H. dated 6/2/13. Step 1 - the best way to reinstall the top cover is to remove all the clips from the tailgate and install them in the proper places on the cover. It just pops on after aligning
it properly. Step 2 - Simply grind a flat spot on each washer until it fits to the bracket. Step 5 - Yes, the photo is upsidedown. Conclusion - the lock works beautifully and looks factory. Thank you.

This lock is exactly what I was looking for, it was a easy installation, looks good works perfect. Now I don't worry about anything being taken from the bed once I get my shell put on.
I don't know why Honda didn't include a lock for the 2012 Ridgeline tailgate, especially since this solution from etrailer is so simple and cost effective. I have a hard aftermarket bed cover from Bak-Flip so this lock makes the whole bed pretty secure for carrying equipment, luggage, etc.
Installation was made quite easy by the excellent video provided by etrailer. I have the backup camera and the kit fits right around the wiring and the lock sets up in the corner of the handle opposite the camera for a nice balance look. The lock works for both handles as this tailgate opens two ways.
Overall great product.
I had to contact Pop & Lock cause the unit I bought didn't work. I followed the instructions to the T and when you go to lock the tailgate, when you turn the key back so you can remove the key, it kept moving the arm to the point where it wasn't locking the tailgate anymore. So they sent me a new one and I'll be replacing it here soon. Then I'll send them the defective unit.

I was questioning this product since Honda ridgeline tailgate door open in two ways, I call the manufacture and they confirm how it works. This item is on two to three weeks back order every where so I soon as I find it on this site I did not waste any time to order it, I receive it on time and it took me about 35 minutes to install it. For Ridge line owner I think this is a good item and do n't hesitate to buy it, It is easy to install, I will say DIY.

I've owned two Honda Ridgelines and always felt that lack of a tailgate lock was a serious issue especially if you have a bed cover that locks. That really doesn't help if the bed can be accessed by simply dropping the tailgate, This lock is an excellent idea and an excellent product. The video made installation a breeze. It looks and fits perfectly. I received the lock only a couple of days after ordering which was another plus.
The factory tailgate "lock" on the Ridgeline is terrible. This is a REAL solution! It's perfect! Instructions are printed badly, but no matter- go online and look at large color photographs. The hardest part (hands down) was getting the top trim piece off of the tailgate in the first place. Everything else was a breeze!
Estimated delivery was on-time. installation did not affect back-up camera and took me about an hour. Thank You for your PAL6100 installation video which was a big help over the printed instructions. Having installed my BakFlip G2 bed cover last year, the Manual Tailgate Lock adds a welcomed security feature. All hardware worked 'as advertised'.
Was really simple to install. Instructions were good and it works well. Hardest part was getting the tailgate top cover on.
George - 07/24/2014While the product is functional, the installation instructions leave a good deal to be desired.
Step 1: Only the two outside white clips should be removed---not all of the white clips.
Step 2: The mounting bracket will not fit using the washers from the factory handle screws---the washers need to be discarded.
Step 5: The referenced photograph is printed upside down.

Keith M - 10/27/2020My original cover lock failed within the first year, then I found this lock. It has worked flawlessly for over a year. It matched the paint color and did not bother the backup camera. Will be looking for the same type of lock for my wife's new '17 RidgeLine.
