Stacked-plate heat exchangers have long been considered the most effective type of oil or transmission cooler, primarily because of their increased surface area. Allowing fluid to spread out over this larger surface area decreases the time required for heat transfer to take place. As a result, plate coolers typically manage to cool a greater volume of fluid faster than tube-and-fin, or even plate-and-fin, varieties.

Worked perfectly, under the grill facia it was almost invisible. Kept the AT fluid about 20 degrees F cooler. Easy to install (About 2 hours)

Cooler was well built and fit my 2002 Silverado with some slight modifications to the existing bracing. It seems to cool well but I haven’t towed anything heavy yet in warmer temps to know how well it cools above the stock cooler.

Derale transmission cooler is working well. It keeps the transmission around 15-20 degrees cooler in my 2002 2500HD Silverado with normal towing. When transmission temp does go up when pulling steep hills or driving through a town it cools back down pretty quickly afterwards. For normal driving it really keeps the transmission cooler. I have a 4180E transmission which runs around 175-180 degrees towing a 7500 lb 5th wheel camper in warm weather.

@Stephen glad to hear it is working so well!

This transmission cooler is a true game changer. We are now able to climb steep grades without overheating the transmission. Installation was fairly straightforward, and it fit in the same location as the original cooler. We have traveled over 4500 miles since installation and are very happy with its performance.

After one year this transmission cooler is working great. We have traveled over steep mountain grades with no problems.

Absolutely awesome!!!! Took 100 degrees out of the Trans! Pulling a trailer through the mountains. 100% recommended. It didn't fit quite perfect on my 2014 yukon and had to buy more hose but worth every penny spent! I will buy again

I just received the Derale D13403 transmission oil cooler and the Firestone Ride-Rite air suspension system for my truck. I have not installed them yet but my experience with the ordering process was excellent. I placed my order on a Saturday afternoon and received confirmation of shipment later the same day. Everything was packaged very well and free delivery was quick. I have ordered from etrailer before and will continue to use them as my needs arise..

ordering was easy. Paula was professional, knowledgeable and helpful. The product arrived on time and was in excellent condition ready to install. Installation wasn't complicated just a few hours from start to finish. We are ready to roll!

  • Is a Heat Sink Frame Rail Transmission Cooler Good Enough for a 1991 Chevy S10
Heat sink coolers like # D13250 are not as efficient as other coolers but they are great at fitting in narrow spaces. If you want the optimum amount of cooling then you would want to go with a stacked plate cooler # D13403. This cooler is rated as a Class V which means it is very efficient. We also have # D13402 which is a little smaller and classified as a Class IV. You would also need mount kit # D50020 if you go with the smaller Class IV cooler. I have included a link to our FAQ article...

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2002 Chevy 2500HD Silverado with 4L80E
For the 4L80E transmission that is in your 2002 Chevy 2500HD Silverado we have supplemental transmission coolers that would work great in conjunction with the factory cooler or as a stand alone cooler if you are looking to bypass the factory cooler. The best option I could recommend for you would be a stacked plate style cooler like the part # D13403. This is the most efficient style of transmission cooler on the market that would work great for you. You would want to install the cooler...

  • Larger Trans Cooler Recommendation 2013 GMC Yukon Denali with 6.2 Liter
The Derale Stacked Plate Transmission Cooler part # D51906 is one of the most efficient transmission coolers out there so this would be an excellent option that would work great. With that said you'll want the version of this that comes with the install kit part # D13403. You will need the hose fitting adapter part # D13035 that you referenced as well. This allows you to easily plumb into the factory transmission cooler lines. I attached an install video that shows how the adapter is used...

  • Parts Needed to Safely Tow a Pop Up Camper with a 2016 Kia Sedona
    1. Normally I'd say that your 2016 Kia Sedona would be just fine as long as the pop up has brakes, but since your towing capacity without brakes is only 1,000 lbs it would be a good idea to install one. As far as the warranty is concerned you are protected by the Federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. The Act states that if something breaks on your vehicle and you take it in for warranty repair, the dealer must honor your warranty unless whatever modifications you have added to your vehicle...

  • Adapter Needed To Install Derale Transmission Cooler On 2016 Chevy Silverado 5.3
The Derale 19-Row Stacked-Plate Transmission Cooler Kit, -6 AN Inlets - Class V # D13403 is a great option for your 2016 Chevy Silverado with the 5.3 V8. This does fit most vehicles with the 5/16" transmission lines, but I recommend adding the Derale Snap-In Radiator Adapter Fitting for GM # D13035. This adapter allows you to easily connect the radiator to the transmission cooler. I attached a demonstration video for you.

The best standard mount transmission cooler for your 2015 Mazda CX9 is the largest one you have space available for in front of your radiator behind your grill. I recommend using the Derale 19-Row Stacked-Plate Transmission Cooler Kit part # D13403 as this is a fairly large standard mount transmission cooler that features a plate and fin technology which is far superior to the industry standard tube and fin design. Yes, the core in Derale transmission cooler # D13403 can be mounted so that the lines enter and exit from the side rather than the top. There is enough pressure in the lines to push the fluid through no matter how you choose to mount it! I have linked the installation instructions for you.

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500HD with 6.0 Towing a 5th Wheel
Given the weight of your trailer and the fact that you tow uphill I recommend going with the largest cooler or most efficient that will fit in the available space you have in the engine compartment of your 2004 Silverado. A stacked plate cooler is going to be the most efficient. For a stacked plate that is very efficient and rated as a Class V I recommend # D13403. The Derale 19-Row Stacked Plate Transmission Cooler Kit # D13403 measures 13 inches wide x 7-5/16 inches tall x 2 inches deep. For your situation, the best, most-effective transmission cooler I can recommend for you is the Derale Atomic-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit with Fan # D13950. You will also want to use the Derale Snap-In Radiator Adapter Fitting for GM # D13035, so you do not need to flare lines for installation. The Derale stacked plate transmission coolers like part # D13403 can be mounted in any orientation that you need including having the hose fittings down. The line pressure from the transmission will push all of the fluid through the cooler regardless of how it is mounted. • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500 with 5.3 Liter
The general rule is to keep the transmission fluid at or below 200 degrees Fahrenheit. When towing, especially in the mountains and in summer time, the transmission fluid temperature can increase much higher so adding a supplemental cooler is a good idea. A supplemental cooler can decrease the temperature significantly due to more airflow to the fluid and more capacity (fluid) in the system. No, the Derale # D13403 is not considered a low pressure transmission cooler. All Derale Coolers are rated at 250 PSI and 300 PSI burst strength. The only Low pressure coolers I have heard of are the Tru-Cool brand and unfortunately we do not carry them here at etrailer.

Adding a supplemental cooler to your factory transmission cooler is what is recommended in most cases because the factory cooler is most likely working fine and adding a secondary cooler in line will just assist in the cooling already taking place. I recommend the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/Barb Inlets # D13503 for a good option, but the # D13403 is an even better and more efficient option. We don't have a video but I can tell you how you would bypass the factory transmission cooler in the radiator of your 2007 Nissan Frontier. On the Allison transmissions you would need to go to a larger hose and fittings to avoid any problems when using a transmission cooler such as # D13403. But what I recommend is to use core # D54012 which does have -12AN fittings already. The largest inner diameter hose we have is 1/2 inch such as # D15799 so if you do need larger hose it would need to be obtained locally.
