Video Transcript for A Closer Look at the 7-Way Trailer Adapter for Towing Trailers with LED Lights

Jeff Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this CURT seven-way trailer adapter for towing trailers with LED lights. Now, this'll basically plug into your existing seven-way socket, and it provides a new seven-way socket that's able to recognize LED trailer lights. They use built-in resistors, which'll enable the LED signals from your trailer to be read by your vehicle's computer. And to install this, there's no cutting or splicing required. It's basically just a plug-in.

This is great for use on the vehicles with the trailer lamp out sensors, like the Audi, the Mercedes and the Volkswagen vehicles that have the factory tow package. What this adapter will do is simulate the increased power draw so the vehicle thinks there's incandescent lights on the trailer. Then you won't get the lamp bulb out reading that usually flashes on the dash of those vehicles. You can see it also, right here, has a nice spring-loaded dust cover. This'll help protect the terminals from moisture and debris when the connector is not in use.

Overall length on this from one end to the other is about 12 inches, and you can see it is a flexible cable. But that should do it for the review on this CURT seven-way trailer adapter for towing trailers with LED lights..

If you have a GMC/Chevy truck and are connecting to a trailer with LED lights - in my case brand new 2026 truck and < 1yr old Sport Haven trailer with modern LED lighting... the trailer-computer smarts in the truck was not detecting the trailer - NO LIGHTs. This gizmo FIXED THIS ISSUE by providing the resistive load necessary for the truck to recognize the connected trailer. Took me a while to figure out then find this solution - hopefully this helps someone else having the same issue.

Glad we had the fix for you Mark! Not sure why the LED lights don't like to play with the Chevy/GMC wiring. They will get it figured out one day =)

by:

This did not fix my problem. Chevrolet has a problem with electric brake trailers. Brakes kick out all the time. This made no difference.

What brake controller are you using, or is it the OEM one? What is the year and model of your Chevy? Are they just electric brakes, or electric over hydraulic? And can you please explain the issue? Just trying to dig a little deeper so we can get you sorted out =)

This product does exactly what it supposed to: allows truck computer to recognize LED trailer lights. It’s a bit clunky with the 7 blade receptacle looking like an off the shelf component. The first one l received, the main cable insulation was too short, thus exposing internal wires allowing for potential water infiltration. The replacement was just fine. Great customer service in replacing the original part.

It still works. I wish there was a sleeker version.

We had LED light strips added to the rear of our 2026 Rockwood TT - the left side worked as expected but the right side didn't!!
So far so good the trailer is in storage right now. When I received the adapter we went over and hooked into the 7 Way with the adapter - lo and behold very thing worked as it should - the right signal no longer has a hiccup when flashing and was in sequence with the factory installed tail light.

by:

I had a low battery drain. Because I didn't have the right plug. This is the right plug everything works, great

This adapter is designed to help with LED light compatibility, but it doesn’t address pulse width modulation issues, which is what typically causes the power problem with Furrion cameras on some vehicles. So while it’s working as intended, it won’t resolve that specific camera issue. For setups like yours, a PWM filter like part #FR87PR is usually the right solution to get consistent power to the camera. If you want, we can help make sure everything is set up correctly for your vehicle and camera so you’re not chasing the issue any further.

Just got a 2025 ram 1500 an my boat trailer lights were blinking in the morning and throwing codes. For 4 day in a row before I got the new truck I towed my boat with the old truck and no issues. So knowing it was the truck and not my trailer I was looking for a solution and found this. Plugged this into truck and trailer with lights on no blinking tried without the new plug blinks put the new plug back on no blinking. I’m so happy was driving my crazy for 2 weeks now all is good.

It solved the lamp out on trailer messsage on the truck due to the trailer LED lights.

The wiring kit was perfect for trailering our Jeep. My husband did it himself in the instructions were easy and support was the company. Would use them again.

This product is amazing and works extremely well. I wish I would have known about it sooner. I use it with a Mercedes Sprinter chassis on a small RV. When towing a jeep I was always having light issues. Once I strated using this adapter it corrected everything. I highly recommend this item.

by:

Works perfect! Excell prompt delivery! I would definitely purchase again from trailer!

by:

My Ford truck no longer complains about disconnected trailer lights while driving down the road. I'd rather the truck correctly detect the LED load, but I'll settle for this workaround. Sanity restored.

In October 2021, I purchased several packs of LED bulbs from etrailer and replaced the dim OEM incandescent marker lights and turn signal lights on my 2021 Coachmen Freedom Express UltraLite 192RBS travel trailer.

Replacing the bulbs was a piece of cake and took only a few minutes. When all the bulbs were changed out, I hooked up my 2020 Ford F-150 and connected the 7-wire connector. All of the new LED bulbs worked flawlessly as expected.

When I made my next trip in the travel trailer, I starting getting “fault” messages on my Ford F-150’s instrument cluster. These messages were alerting me to a problem with either the turn signals or the trailer lights. The first couple of times this happened, I immediately pulled over and checked all my lights. Everything was good. I hit the “OK” button on my steering wheel and turned off the warning. During my six-hour trip, I received these warning messages numerous times (and never a problem was detected).

I sent etrailer a note a couple of weeks ago asking if they had encountered this problem before. Becky B. quickly let me know that my problem was not unique. She suggested etrailers Curt adapter (item C57003) as a possible solution.

I quickly ordered this adapter, and I used it this past weekend (26 March 2022). The adapter worked great! No more “fault” messages.

Thank you, Becky B., and etrailer!

Curt 53007 solved my issue with random turn signals not working and trailer disconnected dash messages . It also cured the left and right camera image not showing in the dash display when trailer is connected and signal activated. Have a Ford 2023 F-350 and pulling a 5th wheel with LED lights.

@GwendolynY Pulling the 5th wheel is much better now, since I do not have dash messages saying “trailer disconnected or that turn signals not working” every 10 to 15 minutes.

@Kenneth That definitely would get annoying on a long trip. It also gives peace of mind knowing that now when you do get an error, it's not just the system going haywire.

Purchased this adapter as my camper trailer's side turn signal LED lights were not activating with my 2019 range rover. Used the adapter and it fixed the issue. All lights and signals work correctly now. Easy fix with this plug and play adapter.

by:

Worked great for my 2025 VW Atlas's cooler rack on the hitch. Appears to be built with good quality materials. Only issue we ran into is the lights don't turn off when the vehicle is off. I am unsure as to why this is, simple fix thought, just unplug when we park for the night. Tested on 2025 Silverado 1500 as well and it made the LED lights function without triggering all the dash warnings.

by:

Fixed the issue with my 2009 GL-550.
Was
super bummed when I purchased a new 2018 Flacon 23RB and the trailer dealership couldn't get the lights to work with my GL, even after putting in resisters and couldn't leave the lot with the trailer on the back of the GL, had to a friend's truck. Mercedes didnt have any answers either. So hit Google and found this pig-tail.
Thank you SO much!!

Wow. Where do I start. To be short and sweet: We are Reach for the Stars nonprofit in Tucson AZ. We bought a newer trailer for our astronomy events to help youth with mental health issues through the awe of the cosmos. This enclosed trailer was connected to our 2022 Silverado (newer truck) after a long delivery transfer (1000+ miles), and nothing worked. No lights, no charge, no electronic brakes, warnings were flashing all over. How can a newer trailer on a newer truck not work??! We were so worried about the return fees, delivery fees and issues that we would have to go through if we chose to repair it to save money. After 5 days of research and troubleshooting, we found one single device that seemed like it may be the fix. The LED trailer adapter. What?! The dealer had no idea what was wrong or what would fix it. Never heard of the issue before... Really?Yet, E.Trailer knew what to do. We bought the $20 part on a hope and a prayer, and it arrived quickly, just 2.5 days later. We connected it, and it was an instant success! Everything worked like new. Everything. This little part, which no one knew about besides etrailer, saved our little mission so much money, stress and headache. Thank you for helping us help others to reach for the stars! Now, we just need some nice enclosed trailer locks to protect our gear! Back to fundraising! etrailer is the place to go when your in need!!!!

Solved all my problems with my older Range Rover not communicating correctly (lights always flashing) with the trailer LEDs.

by:

My Sprinter chassis was not communicating with my towed Jeep Wrangler and the tail lights weren't working. This adapter solved the problem! The only improvement in the Curt adapter would be a way to easily secure this adapter to the trailer hitch.

by:

my problem: '11 ML350. trailer LED running lights would only flash (like emergency flashers). All other functions worked find - turn signals, brakes, etc. There were no warning lights/codes, etc displayed on the dash.

This product completely solves this problem - it's a quality built product at a reasonable price. Although the trailer end of the pigtail includes mounting bracket for a permanent installation, I won't go to that extent as I rarely use the trailer. I will most likely just zip tie the pigtail to what ever is convenient to eliminate any flopping around while on the road.

  • Troubleshooting No Power To Trailer Brakes When Trailer Connected To New GM Truck
When you hooked up to the GM trucks, did you notice if the truck said trailer connected? The towing computer on the newer GMC trucks is kind of finicky and if it did not recognize the trailer, or the trailer was not setup in the system it will not send power to the trailer brakes. If you were getting the no trailer connected message you will need to use the 7-Way Trailer Adapter # C57003 which has load resistors and will help the computer detect the trailer. If the trailer was not setup...

If you will be towing a trailer with LED lights then you will likely need to use an adapter with a lamp-out sensor like the Tow Ready # 20142 or Curt # C57003 that you referenced. Both of these adapters will accomplish the same task; plugging into an existing 7-Way on your Audi and providing a new 7-Way that is able to recognize the LED trailer lights. The only difference between the two items is the bracket/housing and the wire extension on the Curt # C57003. If you don't need this and...

This is a problem we saw first with German vehicles a while back and an adapter was made to help part # C57003. This has load resistors built into it so that your trailer thinks it's connected to a trailer with incandescent bulbs and everything will work like normal.
