Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your rear cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Easy to install power cable fit in the cab under the running boards easy enough. Added some wire loom to protect the exposed wiring between lights. No issue after a 1700mile trip.
Works well, problem is that if I leave power connected it drains my battery.
I installed a switch to disconnect power, good now.

very happy with the packaging. The hitch arrived in just a couple days even with the free shipping my son and I installed the hitch the next day this past Saturday.as advertised once the pesky existing nut was removed from our Jeep, the hitch install was easy.
This is the second one I purchased as the first one stopped working after about three years. Installation is easy and it works as advertised. I just hope the second one lasts longer than three years. I tested the wiring and all tested ok, so I believe it was something within the circuit board on the first one. I trailered a 19' boat, log splitter, and a large trailer with tractor during the period using a Jeep Liberty.
Amazingly easy to install. Hardest part was running the wire to the battery. Everything else was simple plug in. Also, extremely fast shipping and courtesy follow through via emails from customer service representative! Thank you!

This is the third wiring harness I have bought they are very easy to install.I like to add a layer of electrical tape over all the wires to add one more layer.I travel a lot of gravel and winter roads. Mike

The wiring harness was a easy to install. The written instructions weren't real clear, but the video on the etrailer website was right on and a great help.
As advertised. Harness only took about 45 minutes to install but the power line was another story. Exhaust lines, drive shafts, steering column, etc., caused the power line to take about 2 hours to route and secure with wire ties. Works great though.

works great! I use it 2 or 3 times per week.
I first looked at etrailer because of the price but I chose to purchase from etrailer because of the helpful "how to" videos. Wiring harness seemed too difficult until I watched the video. Mounting the hitch and installing the wiring was as easy as can be. Product seems to be quality made, very solid and welds look good. The paint finish even still looks good after a year. I work for a truck parts supply company and I have been recommending etrailer to all of my customers, co-workers and friends & family since my purchase.
We have been very happy with our Curt Trailer Hitch receiver for our 2010 Jeep. etrailer was great to work with. Shipping was fast, installation easy. Now looking at a tow bar package from etrailer for our RV!
