Does Wire Need to be Ran from 2011 Jeep Liberty Battery to Trailer Wiring Harness

Question:
Does this require a hot wire to the car battery, the webpage says this should be done. Im confused.

When installing the Curt trailer wiring harness part # C56334 you do have to run a wire from the harness to the vehicle battery.
