Question:
Hello there! I have a 2012 Jeep Liberty and I was wondering if it could tow a 2700lb travel trailer and what kind of hitch and what else I would need? Thank you!

According to the owner's manual for your 2002 Jeep Liberty, the maximum towing capacity is 2,000 lbs if you do not have the factory trailer tow package or 5,000 lbs if you do have the factory trailer tow package. If you do not know whether or not you have the factory trailer tow package you can call the dealer with your VIN and ask.
In order to tow a trailer with your Jeep Liberty you will need a trailer hitch, trailer wiring harness, and ball mount/hitch ball. For a trailer hitch, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 13245. This hitch is a custom fit for your Jeep Liberty so no drilling into the frame is required. It is also very easy to install taking most only 20 minutes on average. For a trailer wiring harness, I recommend the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C56334. This wiring harness is a custom fit for your Jeep Liberty so no splicing is required as it is plug and play essentially.
In order to find the correct ball mount you will need to do a bit of measuring which you can see in the attached help article. If you do not have access to the trailer because you have yet to purchase it then a better option for you would be to just use the Channel Style Adjustable Ballmount part # C45900 which would have you covered for multiple different trailers.
I have attached an install video of the trailer hitch as well as a photo.
