  Hey Barrett, ideally you have 2 inches of clearance between the tire sidewall and the frame of the trailer. Where you are at now is going to be not quite enough clearance.   The minimum distance between the inside of a tire and the frame rail depends a lot on the setup of the trailer. But as long as the tire and the frame don't touch you would be fine. It's hard to give an exact figure as trailer setups can vary and some trailers may have more side to side movement which would call for more clearance.   Wheel studs can break from too much torque on them or from having them too loose which creates movement which can eventually cause them to break. My brother kept breaking wheel studs on a car he had because he was using the wrong lug nuts. In your situation it sounds like the lug nut torque should have been checked prior to your trip.
