E-Z Lube-Compatible Hub for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Parts are great. Just didn’t like that the whole order wasn’t all there and had to wait for the rest to come later.

- AKIHUB-440-2-EZ-2K

Simply a breeze to install. The pre-packed hub was ready to go. The how-to videos were also helpful. My trailer was back together in minutes.

- AKIHUB-440-2-EZ-2K

I bought a replacement axle and idler hubs for my utility trailer. Overloading with heavy firewood finally took its toll! Everything from etrailer.com showed up by UPS Ground right on schedule and the parts went together very nicely. The hub bearings are factory-lubricated, saving that critical step. I tested it out yesterday and the trailer runs fine. I would have to rate the products and purchasing experience as excellent (5 stars).

- AKIHUB-440-2-EZ-2K

The website is very clear to navigate. videos make products much easier to install. To my surprise, My purchase got upgraded at no additional cost. The entire experience was extremely pleasant. Thanks to george j for the upgrade!

After ordering I was fearful the product would not fit due to the trailer being made in Taiwan. The product arrived on November 26 and fit perfectly. What a relief! I am grateful to Tammie for making this an easy process. Tammie’s professionalism was quality based. I would highly recommend etrailer to all. Happy Thanksgiving

  • What Hubs Will Fit On My Trailer Spindle
It sounds to me like you have 2,000 lb. axles on your trailer. For a replacement hub assembly that uses the L44649 bearing for both the inner and outer seats, you will want the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb E-Z Lube Axles part # AKIHUB-440-2-EZ-2K. The hub assemblies are a complete kit with bearings, seals, races and the hub cap thats allows for easy grease applications.

  • Which Hub Assembly and Bearings do I Need to Replace 4 by 4 trailer hubs?
To find which hub works for your trailer, we need to remove the current hub and look at the bearing numbers on the current bearings. Part # AKIHUB-440-2-EZ-2K is the part you most likely need, but there is no way of knowing until the bearing numbers are matched. When trying to verify the bearings you currently have, you need to pull the bearings out of your hub and there should be a bearing number on the seal of the bearings. This will tell you if this part is a correct fit or not. If...

  • How to Identify Correct Replacement Trailer Hubs
We carry lots of trailer hubs, both the idler type (no brakes) and the hub/drum type for drum brakes. All are shown on the linked page. These are available in many wheel bolt patterns and for various axle weight ratings. The best way to match up the correct hub for your axle is to pull one of the hubs to obtain the bearing part numbers from one of the existing hubs. It is possible to measure the spindle to get the bearing inner diameters but this requires a precision caliper like #...

  • Will Too Much Grease Cause Resistance in Wheels?
The problem you are describing is odd because putting grease in should not cause resistance. I recommend disassembling your hubs and checking all the parts to make sure the bearings are seated correctly, the nut is tightened correctly and the seal is not broken.

The ID for the TImken 1380 is .875 and the 17520/17580 is .625. None of the hubs we offer are compatible with spindles that have a diameter that small. Honestly, you'll likely have a difficult time locating replacement hubs compatible with that spindle and your best bet will be to replace the axle for one that has spindles that are compatible with readily available modern parts. To determine the replacement axle you'll need, you'll need to find the hub face to hub face dimension as...

I have a way to help you find out what replacement hub assembly you need, but you'll need to verify some things on your end as I don't have a list of replacement parts for your trailer available. Since your 1992 Ranger Trail is a tandem axle trailer rated for 4,800 lbs this indicates that you have 2 axles rated at 2,000 lbs. • Timbren Axle-Less System vs. Torsion Axles for a Sail Boat Trailer
I recommend the Timbren Axle-Less Suspension System # ASR2000S01 over a torsion axle for your trailer for a few reasons. First, the Timbren System increases ground clearance without increasing your trailer height. The Timbren System is also easier to replace as you can replace one spring at a time. They also operate independently of one another to minimize bounce for a smoother ride compared to the torsion axle system. An E-Z lube spindle is included with the system, but a Trailer Hub...

The main difference between them is for example the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb E-Z Lube Axles - 4 on 4 - L44649 Bearings # 8-91-05UC1-EZ is for EZ lube spindles that have a zerk fitting so it includes a grease cap with a removeable rubber grommet so you can get to the zerk fitting without needing to remove the cap,...
