Hey everybody. Ryan here at etrailer. Today we're gonna be checking out the Bright Way group replacement battery for trailer breakaway boxes. Trailer maintenance is one of those things that is often neglected or just overlooked, and it seems like when people kind of get on that road they tend to just kind of go over everything and get it all fixed, get it up and going again and making sure that your breakaway box battery is in good working order is critical. 'Cause it's a big safety deal. The whole point of this is if you we're to become disconnected accidentally if the trailer we're to, the breakaway pin would get pulled and the battery would send power back to your trailer brakes, applying 'em and helping you slow down and get things under control.
So if you have a bad battery, the brakes aren't gonna get power and things can get dicey pretty quick. So keeping an eye on this and making sure it's charged up or good is something that you definitely need to pay attention to. Today's trailer is a perfect example of that. I'll come in with quite a few things not working and so rewired a lot of things and fix a lot of things up and we noticed the battery was not operating. So right now I have the original in there.
In our case our breakaway box has a test button. If you push it absolutely nothing happens. And even on our breakaway switch we installed this one has an LED indicator that will tell you if the battery's getting power, sending power up here. If the pins pulled, we pull that out nothing happens. And you try to charge this battery, a lot of times when they're just too far gone they're not gonna hold a charge and that's what happened.
And so with nothing wrong with the box, but the battery being bad, you can just swap that out. And so the way these work, super simple and they're all pretty much the same, really not a whole lot of differences. Be a direct replacement for a lot of people. Slide them on then stuff back in there. Now if you hit the button we can see it's green, which means fully charged.
And then if we go back to our breakaway switch just to kind of double check everything, which it's a good idea to do. If we we're to pull that, we see our light coming on we know power is being sent back. (wire clicking) So probably what a lot of people are wondering is this gonna work with your setup And like I said these are pretty generic. These are gonna work with the majority of the Bright Way group breakaway boxes and well as a lot of the other manufacturers. Really the biggest thing to look for is what your original batter's rating is. And like I said, they're all pretty much the same. This particular one is 12 volt five amp hour. It's a sealed lead acid battery. And as long as those ratings match up and this will fit in your box, it'll be in good shape. And in terms of how big it is, it's gonna be four inches tall, three and a half inches wide, and two and three quarters of an inch deep. Other than that at the end of the day, this could be a great solution and a direct replacement in most cases for the majority of the trailer breakaway boxes out on the market. And that'll finish up our look at of the Bright Way Group replacement battery for trailer breakaway boxes.
