Dial in the fit with a 4-1/2 inch tall RV skylight that matches your setup. Choose smoke to cut sunlight and help keep interiors cooler, or white. For sizing, confirm whether dimensions refer to the roof cutout or flange, and plan on more than one tube of sealant for installation.
Match the skylight's listed cutout size to your roof opening and remember the flange is larger than the cutout. Measure the roof opening from edge to edge and compare to the cutout spec. Also check overall flange size to be sure it covers your roof area and screw pattern. If you measured an old skylight's outside edge, recheck the actual roof cutout.
Plan on more than one tube of sealant and use butyl tape under the screw holes, then lap sealant over the top. Some kits don't include caulk, so verify what's in the box. If you want a smoother finish, use a self-leveling lap sealant rather than a sticky, stringy product.
Dry fit it and make sure it sits flat so you can maintain a good seal. Inspect corners for any warping and look for gaps when the screw holes are held down. If the material tends to pop up between screws, add careful sealing and avoid over-torquing to reduce stress and potential cracking.
Smoke helps reduce sunlight and can keep the RV cooler. White lets in light but diffuses it for privacy. Decide how much brightness and heat you want over the area, like a shower or living space. If glare or heat has been a problem, Smoke can help cut it down.
