RV Step Covers for secure, comfortable footing

Give your RV steps extra grip and a softer feel with step covers built for everyday camping. Options match straight or curved steps 8" to 11" deep and up to 24" wide, with sets sized for 20" and 23-1/2" widths, plus landing rugs for 13-1/2" top steps. Installs are quick with wraparound springs, molded hook-on designs, or adhesive Velcro, and there are choices that work with electric steps.

Measure the tread width and depth first. Many wraparound covers are designed for steps 8" to 11" deep and up to 24" wide, while some are about 23-1/2" wide. If your top step is deeper, a landing-style rug with adhesive-backed Velcro can fit 13-1/2" depths and can be trimmed. For spring-mounted styles, make sure the cover length will wrap your step; on 11" depths the grommets may face outward for a straight pull.

They hold up well and improve footing. Reported life is 2-3 years with heavy seasonal use, and some show no wear after a year of frequent camping. The textured surface provides a nonslip feel and helps dogs go up and down calmly. They also reduce step noise and help keep dirt out, though debris can collect in some materials.

Installation is generally straightforward. Spring-secured styles go on quickly; use pliers to help stretch the springs and aim for a straight pull. If a door limits tread access, offset the cover to the used side. Adhesive-backed landing rugs attach with Velcro strips—line up, press in place, and trim any excess if needed.

Pick the texture that fits your use. A softer style provides a less aggressive feel for bare feet and pets, while a turf-like style can clean shoes better but feels more abrasive. Coarser materials improve traction and help when wet, but can hold more debris and take more effort to clean.

They can work fine when sized correctly. One install on electric steps was easy and the steps worked as they should. Check that the cover's thickness doesn't obstruct step operation. After installing, cycle the steps to confirm clearance and that nothing catches at the hinges or edges.
