Video Transcript for Deka Wiring - Tools for Wiring - DW04367 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number DW04367. This is the Deka Self Fusing Auto Tape. The black self fusing tape is ideal for almost any application that requires a waterproof seal. It's an excellent insulator as well with high dielectric strength. It's going to measure 1 inch wide. The roll's going to offer 10 feet in total length.

One of the great things about this unit is it forms a permanent bond that's both air tight and waterproof. You can see here, I just kind of looped over the end so we can see how tight it actually does form. I'm having a difficult time peeling it back off itself. It's going to really stick well, very easy to apply. On the back of the packing is going to be the instructions that you need in order to get it installed.

Very easy to follow, very easy installation. This plastic material just peels off the back and exposes the tape itself. This is going to leave no residue. It's got that design to it, so once we're ready to peel it off if you ever want to remove it, you don't ever have to worry about leaving any residue behind. It's designed to fuse upon itself when wrapped. It's going to cure completely within 24 hours.

It's designed to stretch to 300% of it's original length. It insulates 8,000 volts per layer so it really does a good job protecting the wires and splices or anything like that. This is a great alternative to heat shrink tubing. It's designed to resist UV rays, oil, and corrosive chemicals. When it comes to the applications that this can be applied to, there's really a ton of applications that would work for.

We have some of those listed on the product page of this part number. The temperature range that it's going to work well in is 65 degrees Fahrenheit to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. Very strong and durable stuff. It meets or exceeds UL standard 510. It meets MIL-I-46852C Type 2 standard and the product's made in the USA. That's going to do it for our review of part number DW04367. .

Ask the Experts about this Deka Wiring

Do you have a question about this Wiring?

  • Current Capacity of Hopkins 12-Volt Power Socket with Power Wire and Fuse Assembly HM55115
  • The Hopkins 12-Volt Power Socket # HM55115 uses a wire gauge that can safely support up to 20-amps and that is the value of fuse supplied with this kit. I can't recommend using a 30-amp fuse in this item. What I can suggest is making your own 30-amp capable outlet by using a 30-amp auto reset circuit breaker # PK54530, 12V power outlet part # DG6112VP and 10-gauge duplex wire # 10-2-1. You'll also need some ring terminal connectors like # 44-5310A, push-on connectors like # DW05709-1...

  • Curt Echo Wireless Controller on 2018 Toyota Highlander XLE
  • All you will need is the 7-Way Upgrade Wiring Kit, # ETBC7L that you mentioned. The installation process is straight-forward and the installation videos I attached do a great job walking through the steps. I'd start with the # ETBC7L install video and then the # C51180 video. Some additional components to include are dielectric grease # 11755 to keep moisture out, prevent corrosion, and ensure good performance on your 4 pole connector. Regarding the blue wire, wrap it with the...

  • Trailer Light Kit Recommendation for Ranger Boat Trailer
  • A great choice for your boat trailer is the Aero Pro LED Trailer Light Kit for Trailers Over 80" Wide # TLL36RK. This kit includes 2 tail lights which serve 8 functions (Stop, turn, tail, side marker, rear clearance, side reflector, rear reflector, and license plate light) and 2 sidemarker lights, all fully submersible. It also includes a license plate bracket, stainless steel mounting hardware, quick splice connectors and a 25 foot long wishbone harness with a 4-pole flat. I definitely...

  • Replacing the Blue Ox BrakeBuddy Break-Away Switch with the Hopkins Replacement Break-Away Switch
  • The Blue wire on the Hopkins Replacement Break-Away Switch # HM20010 will need to be spliced to the wire that sends the signal for the braking on your Jeep. The Black wire will need to be connected to your BrakeBuddy. I recommend using Heat Shrink Butt Connectors # DW05745-5 to make your splice and connection. You will also want to secure those connection points using Deka Self-Fusing Auto Tape # DW04367. Both of these used together will do an excellent job at protecting these points...

  • Is White Ground Wire Connection Necessary for Small Canoe Trailer
  • Yes, it is necessary to have the ground connection on your trailer as it can cause your lights to not work properly. Since the white wire was cut off right next to the 4-Way connector you'll have to replace the whole connector but we have plenty of options for you to choose from. I highly recommend the Hopkins Endurance Easy-Pull Harness # HM48114 because it is designed specifically to help make disconnecting your trailer wiring much easier and the wiring is labeled for easy installation. Since...

  • Is Heat Shrink Tubing Included in Deka Butt Connector DW05743-10
  • The Deka 22-18-gauge butt connector 10-pack, part # DW05743-10, already has built-in heat shrink tubing on the connectors so it is not necessary to add it. If you want to add an additional layer of protection from moisture and other contaminants you can apply Deka Self-Fusing Auto Tape # DW04367 around the entire connector after you have applied heat to the heat-shrink tubing.

  • How to Install the Bargman Taillight Assemblies part # 47-84-008
  • I don't have a set of installation instructions for the # 47-84-008 that I can show you, but I can walk you through the installation. What you will need to do is first remove the current taillights you have on your trailer. Remove any screws from the assembly and pull it out. Next you will need to cut the wires that ran from the old assembly. Try to note if you can what the functions of the wire are. This may not be possible but if so it will help to wire up the new assembly. Next...

  • Installation of Trailer Wiring Harness Through Frame or Conduit on 6x12 Trailer
  • It sounds like your current wiring is run through either conduit or the frame of the trailer. If this is the case, then I recommend utilizing the current wiring as a pull wire to bring the new wiring into place. You can simply use electrical tape like # DW04367 to connect the new wires to the old wires with a tight wrap to give you the connection to pull the old wire from tail light end allowing the new wire to pull from the coupler end through the metal tube into position. I recommend...

  • Installation of 9-Way Round Pin Connectors on Vehicle and Trailer Side
  • The 9-Way Round Pin Trailer Connector - Vehicle Side # R9CB will connect simply by stripping the wires and using the screws located at each pin to connect your wires. Then you simply reconnect the two screws that secure the connector to the housing. I've attached a video to assist. The 9-Way Round Pin Trailer Connector - Trailer Side # R9TB will install in the same way. I've attached a video of the installation of a 7-way which will be a very similar installation. I recommend using...

  • How to Wire Wesbar 271574 Tail Light to Ranger Trailer with Yellow/Brown and Red Wires
  • It's likely the yellow/brown wire on your old light is the left turn/stop circuit and the red is the running light circuit. The only way to be sure is to test the wire functions on your trailer. On the Wesbar Wraparound LED Tail Light # 271595, the red is the stop/turn circuit and the black is the running light circuit. It's worth mentioning that we've received feedback from some customers that have stated these tail lights aren't the best choice for a Ranger trailer since they curve...

  • Ring Terminal Butt Connector Availability
  • I really wish we did, but the largest ring terminal wire gauges we carry is 10 gauge like the part # 44-5310A for a 3/16 inch ring diameter, # 44-5356A for a 5/16 ring diamter, or a part # DW05705-1 for a 3/8 inner diameter. For an excellent airtight and waterproof sealant for your wiring connections I would recommend the Deka Self-Fusing Auto Tape # DW04367.

  • Trailer Brakes are Locking Up When Going in Reverse
  • If your trailer brakes are locking up when you went in reverse that means you have a short between the brake output circuit and the reverse light circuit which is causing the problem. Since you mentioned unplugging the camper resolves the issue of the brakes locking up that verifies that you have a wiring problem. You will need to thoroughly check your brake wiring for any frayed, exposed or otherwise damaged wiring and repair or replace as needed. I also recommend checking your trailer...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Tail Light That Stays On With Trailer Uncoupled and Wiring Disconnected
  • Since your trailer lights are getting some power even when the trailer is not hitched and not connected to the tow vehicle wiring this tell us that one of the batteries on the trailer, either the auxiliary battery for the lights or the breakaway battery for the trailer's electric brakes, is somehow leaking power to the lights. Most likely there is a short on the power leads to one (or possibly even both) of the trailer batteries. You can inspect all of the breakaway and auxiliary batteries'...

  • Connector Recommendation to Wire in Trailer Brakes
  • You can use butt connectors like the part # DW05745-10 or if you have a soldering iron you can solder the connections and then wrap the connections in electrical tape like part # DW04367. The butt connectors have a nylon insulation that you can apply a heat gun to which will also insulate the connection. If this is a boat trailer it's important to make the connections as waterproof as possible.

  • Is it Really Necessary to Unplug Trailer Wiring When Backing Boat Trailer into Water
  • This is a really great question that we've debated quite a bit here even. So to be safe your best option is to unplug the trailer wiring before backing the boat trailer into the water. This greatly reduces the chances of there being a short. That said, I've been on boat ramps after having this discussion and watched trailer after trailer get backed into the water with the wiring connected and everyone was fine so we realize most aren't worried about it. The brake assemblies themselves like...

  • Why Would Trailer with Electric Brakes Lock Up When Vehicle is in Reverse
  • If you have a trailer with electric brakes and they are locking up when the vehicle is in reverse that means that you have a short between the reverse light circuit and the brake output circuit which is locking the brakes up. Go over the two circuits and see if you can find where they might be shorting out together and causing this problem. Electric tape like part # DW04367 can be used to insulate the two circuits. Or it could be caused by corrosion on the connectors shorting them two...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer with Beat up Wiring Where all Lights Blink with Turn Signal
  • If routing the wire in your trailer frame caused any of the wire insulation to come off of the wires and now the metal core of the wire is touching the frame of the trailer that would cause a short. Based on what you are experiencing and you saying the wires are beat up I would be very inclined to believe that the issue is that bare wire is grounding to the trailer frame. You'll need to go over all the wiring looking for any exposed wiring and tape it up with electrical tape like # DW04367.
