How do the wires connect to the part? is it just stripping wire and then connecting to screws?

The 9-Way Round Pin Trailer Connector - Vehicle Side # R9CB will connect simply by stripping the wires and using the screws located at each pin to connect your wires. Then you simply reconnect the two screws that secure the connector to the housing. I've attached a video to assist.
The 9-Way Round Pin Trailer Connector - Trailer Side # R9TB will install in the same way. I've attached a video of the installation of a 7-way which will be a very similar installation. I recommend using some dielectric grease # 11755 to keep water and debris out of your connections and electric tape # DW04367
