Question:
My Roadmaster 9700 braking system regularly blows the 20 amp fuse in our cigarette lighter socket on our tow vehicle. I put in a 25 amp fuse, okay -I was desperate, even with that it on occasion blew the 25 amp fuse. Can I put a 30 amp fuse in the Hopkins 12-Volt Power Socket with Power Wire and Fuse Assembly Item # HM55115 ?

Expert Reply:
The Hopkins 12-Volt Power Socket # HM55115 uses a wire gauge that can safely support up to 20-amps and that is the value of fuse supplied with this kit. I can't recommend using a 30-amp fuse in this item.
What I can suggest is making your own 30-amp capable outlet by using a 30-amp auto reset circuit breaker # PK54530, 12V power outlet part # DG6112VP and 10-gauge duplex wire # 10-2-1.
You'll also need some ring terminal connectors like # 44-5310A, push-on connectors like # DW05709-1 and electrical tape like # DW04367 to ensure safe use of this item.
