Trailer Brakes are Locking Up When Going in Reverse
Updated 06/18/2019 | Published 06/17/2019 >
Question:
On the way home over the weekend, My truck said to check the trailer brake wires. I looked and when backing the camper into my driveway, the rear axle wheels were locked up. I have a dual axle fifth wheel 42 foot camper. If I unplug the camper from the truck it appears all wheels turn freely. Any help is appreciated.

If your trailer brakes are locking up when you went in reverse that means you have a short between the brake output circuit and the reverse light circuit which is causing the problem. Since you mentioned unplugging the camper resolves the issue of the brakes locking up that verifies that you have a wiring problem.
You will need to thoroughly check your brake wiring for any frayed, exposed or otherwise damaged wiring and repair or replace as needed. I also recommend checking your trailer connectors for corrosion this can hamper them.
