Features to know about

Protects Vehicle Wiring from Damage: Circuit-Protected Powered Converter

Towing setups can overload a vehicle’s wiring if not properly managed. This Curt 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector with Circuit Protected Powered Tail Light Converter shields your vehicle from overcurrent and overvoltage situations. The built-in powered converter pulls power directly from the battery instead of the lighting circuits, keeping sensitive electronics safe while delivering a steady signal to the trailer.

Works Seamlessly with Modern LED Trailers: Reliable Power Output

Many newer trailers use LED lights that draw much less current than old incandescent bulbs. This harness is designed to work with both LED and standard trailer lights without triggering false errors or low-power faults. It provides a clean, consistent signal so your running lights, turn signals, and brake lights all operate like they should.

Draws Power Only When Needed: Battery-Friendly Design

You don’t have to worry about this converter draining your battery while parked. It only pulls power when a trailer is connected and the lights are active. That means you can leave it installed year-round without having to pull fuses or disconnect wires between towing trips.

Sets Up a 4-Flat Connection for Basic Trailer Lighting

A standard 4-flat connector gives you the essential lighting functions—running lights, turn signals, and brake lights—so you can tow safely and stay visible. Once spliced into your vehicle’s tail light circuits, it provides the reliable link needed for hauling small trailers, utility haulers, or cargo carriers.

Arrived on time and packaging was very secure andneat

I can't believe I have to use this universal kit for my Corolla Cross just because it is an XLE and you (Curt) cannot figure out how to make a plug and play kit like for all other models of Corolla Cross.

by:

This is my second order from trailer and the entire experience has been PERFECT thank you

by:

Contained everything pictured and worked well for running power to the powered tail light converter

by:

Trailer electric harness arrived perfectly, installation was very straightforward, I am very satisfied with this product

by:

It only lasted maybe 3 months after that it was dead to the world even hooked up straight to the battery no voltage out with a meter! Very dissatisfying

by:

Easy replacement for the old one. No problems encountered at all. Recommended.

Still working great. Absolutely no problems. Had to tap into the fine wires on my 2006 Nissan X-Trail near the spare tire. Also brought a higher gauge wire from the battery via a fuse in the engine compartment routed under the car. Highly recommended.

by:

Easy installation with included parts.

I installed this on my 2004 bmw325 and it was an easy install and it has worked great.

by:

Worked fine, I easy to install.

by:

Good Product and Great Service!

by:

Works great

by:

Installed this kit on my 2022 VW Passat. It works good however finding the right wire was a challenge. I wish that there was a plug and play taillight converter available.

by:

I didn’t like the way it cut into the vehicle wiring, so I bought an OEM harness from Mazda for my 22 CX5. My dealer gave me great instructions and nice sealed connectors. YMMV- I think trailer is a great company and will do business again. The hitch I bought is FANTASTIC.

by:

Have purchased a number of hitches and wire harness for a number of different vehicles I have owned. All products were easy to install and worked perfectly . The instructions were clear and quality of their products is top notch. I have used their customer service to ensure I was ordering the right product for a older vehicle (75 Toyota Landcruiser) they were patient and ensured I got the right set . Their customer service is matched by their pricing and that would be hard to beat . Delivery (Canada) was exceptionally fast. Probably not my last order and I have recommended this company and their products to my friends. If your considering a purchase I don't think you will be disappointed and you will be saving lots of money doing it yourself.

by:

Working well!

by:

Great Product and quick delivery and co mmunications

by:

Work perfectly.

by:

Wired up fast and works flawlessly. I pray it'll last longer than the non-curtis direct hook up connector harness I bought a couple of years ago(it lasted a year and then the black box smoked). Only issue is that it doesn't come with everything you need, but I already had a wire and extra stuff anyway! I used the blue smash in butt connectors supplied instead of soldering it in. Great power!

by:

Joy was very helpful and friendly! She was very knowledgeable and helped me understand exactly what I needed! Items arrived one day earlier than promised!

by:

Installed easily on my 2019 Sprinter RV. Works well which is something I could never say about the Sprinter tow system. Thanks to etrailer for the advice and excellent training videos.

by:

Good instructions and working well.

by:

As always etrailer provides excellent product, very reasonable prices and the support to help you with the installation and usage.

by:

Finding the brake light wire was not fun but the rest was easy on my 2022 Prius.

by:

etrailer is a great vendor to do business with. The Curt C56496 works well, but, requires a fusible link to power the unit but does not come with the link or the fuse. Otherwise, 5 star.

by:

I installed this on a '17 Audi A4 allroad. I put behind the cover on the liftgate. The quick-splice wiring connectors may not work well if your car wiring is smaller than 18 gauge, so have some butt-connectors or a soldering iron on standby. The box itself is well constructed and potted so it should outlast the car itself.

  • Installing Tekonsha Brake Controller On A 2020 GMC Savana Cutaway
I can definitely point you in the right direction. These Savana models can be tricky when installing a dash mount brake controller like the Tekonsha P2 # 90885. If the vehicle has the factory tow package with a 7 way plug, there should be a blue wire for output run under the dash. It would be located near the emergency brake pedal. Some models will have the connection wiring taped and tucked under the driver side floor mat up towards the firewall. Those wires would be labeled which is...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for 2004 Lexus LS 430
Hey Jeff! Yes, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12231 is the right hitch for your 2004 Lexus LS 430. The only wiring available is universal so you can use the Curt 4-Way # C56496 along with the Powered Converter Wiring Kit # 55151 to add a 4-way for your trailer lights. Since you already have a ball mount you're all set. What kind of trailer are you towing?

I checked the owner's manual for your 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee and found all of the locations you need to check that relate to the trailer lights. There are several so it is certainly possible that you missed a few but I don't see any relays. These fuses are all located in the power distribution center (PDC) or aka fuse block under the bonnet next to the engine. There may also be fuses in the interior fuse panel but I was not able to look the locations up for you. F29 20 Amp Blue – Trailer...

Hey John, thanks for reaching out! When you say the pins on the Curt 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector # C56496 are solid, do you mean they light up the light on your tester except the ground? The ground pin won't show power, but could pose an issue if you're testing for continuity and not getting a great reading. If you can give me a little more insight I'd be more than happy to help you continue to troubleshoot!

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring that the Turn Signals Activate with Blinkers
The issue you are experiencing is due to the fact that your trailer has separate trailer wiring circuits, meaning the turn signals and the brake lights are on separate bulbs and the trailer wiring harness # C56496 you installed is designed to operate combined trailer taillights, meaning the turn signals and brake lights are on the same bulb. What you are going to need to do is install the taillight signal converter part # 118158 on the wiring of your trailer. Once installed the red wire...

Hello Ry, thanks for reaching out. The Curt # C59236 is exactly what you will need for your 2011 Ford Crown Victoria LX. There are no plug and play kits available for the 2011 Crown Vic, so a universal hardwire kit like this one will be the only option. This kind of wiring harness is completely safe to install on your vehicle. The Curt harnesses are known to be of better quality and durability than other brands like Hopkins. This issue you are having with the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C55362 sounds like there is too much power being pushed though the circuit according to my contact at Curt. We have also had similar issues with this wiring harness before as well on a 2003 Nissan Frontier. • Curt 4 Flat Trailer Wiring only Getting 4-5 Volts When Testing Blinker Output.
Hello Greg. The first thing I would suggest to do is to check the ground, but it sounds like you already did that. When you tested the voltage of the blinkers, were the blinkers on (green wire, right turn; yellow wire, left turn)? You should be getting about 12 volts, not 4-5. Sounds like the brakes (red wire) is working just fine at 12 volts. If that is the case, you definitely have a bad converter (controller box). Unfortunately, these do go out. • Troubleshooting No Brake Lights After Curt 4-Way Flat Installation
Hi James; when you have power running into the converter but not coming out that typically indicates it is a bad converter. The one thing I would check is the ground connection. Make sure it is secure on a clean, bare-metal surface. If the ground doesn't make a difference I would see about replacing it since it is under warranty. Also, did you install the # 55151 with the wiring harness? You need the in-line fuse to keep it protected.

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2012 GMC Savana Cutaway Short Bus
Hey Mike, thanks for reaching out! Since your 2012 GMC Savana has a bus body on top of the frame, a standard custom-style hitch receiver that bolts on most likely won't fit. We don't have the exact specs, but typically the body hangs down too low and the receiver won't clear it. You're more than welcome to have a local shop verify this (see linked installer locator), but I can pretty much guarantee they will opt for a weld-on universal one like the Draw-Tite # 41990-07. • How to Convert 4-Way for European Trailer With Separate Turn Signals and Brakes
Hey Rick! The solution for your wiring is not on the vehicle side and this is not bi-directional. You will still use a standard 4-way like the Curt # C56496 for the vehicle (any 4-way will work). On the trailer side you want to install the Curt 2-to-3 Tail Light Converter # C56196. This will separate the turn signals and brake light so the trailer lights will work with any vehicle. The Curt 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector # C56496 is a splice-in wiring kit that's more of a standard, but if you're wanting to avoid cutting into your wiring you'll want to go with the ZCI Kit # 119251 which acts the same way, but just clamps around your wiring so you don't have to cut anything.
