Weight Distributing Hitch

Create a stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight-distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight-Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight-distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight-distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight-distribution system.

It does a awesome job pulling are 26 ft camper behind a half ton pickup

by:

Works Great, excellent service

by:

I ordered the wrong system and had to order longer bars, they worked perfectly.

by:

Like your product, but the packaging leaves a lot to be desired. This is the second one we bought and both were delivered in broken damaged boxes. Luckily all the parts were there. Thanks for the quick delivery.

by:

Easier to use then another brand. Only problem was that somehow I bent one of torsion bar retaining clips. Was afraid I would ruin it trying to straighten it out but didn't. I use a colored zip tie to mark the proper chain link to eliminate guessing.

by:

have has this hitch for over a year now and have had zero issues. It is used exclusively to pull my 28 foot travel trailer. Heavy duty and easy to use.

by:

Installed on 14,500 rated trailer pulled 1400 miles round trip no issues, no sway, truck and trailer leveled out for a smooth ride.

by:

I’ve used this hitch as and RV Transporter for a year now and this is a great weight distribution hitch at a great price!

by:

Unfortunately, I have not been able to put my new towing system to use yet. However, the product was delivered very quickly, and shipping was free. Very satisfied with how easily the parts were to assemble. Great experience, so far, with etrailer.com

by:

I have a 2016 F150 4x4 that I leveled and I'm pulling a V-nose enclosed car trailer. The shank that came with the hitch won't allow me to level the trailer. So I ordered a 12 inch drop shank to allow me to level the trailer. I thought the one came with it would work . I will give further review once I receive the new shank.

by:

Happy with the product. Had the trailer company set up the hitch on my Tundra with out a hitch!!! Ha.

by:

Your torsion bar hitch and service were impecable. The people at Husky Cargo trailer in Florida that built the car hauler should take lessons on how to build a trailer and treat paying customers.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System and Sway Bar for 3 Horse Trailer
Thanks for all the information and attempt to show me a comparable trailer. I was able to find one online to assist with the visual. For your trailer I recommend the Curt Short-Arm Weight Distribution System with Sway Control - Trunnion Bar - 15K GTW, 1.5K TW # C17422. This is based on the fact you already have the pop up brackets and the weights you mentioned for your trailer. This system already comes with the pre-torqued 2-5/16 inch hitch ball and it comes with the friction sway...

  • Recommended Short Arm Weight Distribution Hitch for V-Nose Cargo Trailer
I may have a solution for you on this, but you're not going to be able to use the Curt # C17501 in the manner you've mentioned since the brackets will need to be 4" from the end of the spring bars to provide proper leverage to the system. It sounds like you're looking for something like the Curt Short-Arm Weight Distribution System # C17422, which is designed specifically for trailers like this and will work on trailers with a tongue weight between 1000-lbs and 1500-lbs. Instead of the...

  • Recommended Drop Shank for Weight Distribution Systems
Thanks for the pictures! The only thing I would recommend changing on your set up is to add a shank with a deeper drop. I recommend the Curt Weight Distribution Shank 13" Long item # C17124 which has a 9" drop. This would move the bars below your trailer's frame. It would also allow you to mount the sway ball bracket correctly on your item # C17422 system. You have it mounted vertically instead of horizontally on your frame.

  • Why Can't You Back Up with Curt Weight Distribution System Installed
You can back up a trailer with a weight distribution system installed on as long as you don't end up in too tight of a turn. This is especially true with the Curt Weight Distribution System part # C17422 as it has a friction sway control system as well. If you are backing up basically in a straight line you would be fine, but if you think you are going to get into a tight turn you would need to disconnect the spring bars and the friction sway control system. If you kept the unit installed...

  • Can Curt Short Arm Weight Distribution be Used on Trailer With 28 Inch Tongue
Appreciate the photo, and yes you can, but you'll need to use bolt-on chain hangers if there is interference that won't allow the brackets to mount to the top of the tongue 28" back. So you'd need to bolt on the chain hangers to the side of the frame (or the side of the trailer frame just behind the tongue if that is where you are measuring 28 inches) in order to use the system. Here is what you'd need: - Curt Short-Arm Weight Distribution System with Sway Control - Trunnion Bar - 15K...

  • Can You Back Up with a Curt Weight Distribution System Installed
With weight distribution systems like the Curt part # C17422 you can backup as long as you mainly are going straight back. If you find yourself in any jackknife situations you would need to disconnect the bars and the sway control unit. A good rule of thumb is that as long as you aren't ending up in a tighter turning situation that you could get yourself into going forward then you will be fine in reverse.

  • Replacement Head and Trunnion Bar for Curt Weight Distribution System
For a system like the Curt # C17422 you asked the question from, the Curt Replacement Weight Distribution Head for Trunnion Style Bars # C17307 is what is needed. If you want the trunnion bar as well, then you will want # C17337 if you have a 28-3/8" short bar or # C17303 if you have a 30-5/8" long bar system.

A Gen-Y Torsion ball mount like # 325-GH-1024 can be used with a Curt MV weight distribution system. The Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17052, # C17063, and # C17422 are the options we have for the specific tongue weight. Instead I recommend the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control item # C17501. This system has a 1,000 lbs - 1,500 lbs tongue weight. The issue with adding a weight distribution system to your trailer is that there isn't a lot of room for installation due to the V-nose. But I may have a solution for you. • Can You Reverse with the Curt Short-Arm 15K Weight Distribution System with Sway Control
You can reverse with the Curt Short-Arm Weight Distribution System part # C17422 but you need to be sure you are not backing up at an angle. The system works using friction to stop the trailer from swaying so trying to reverse at an angle puts too much stress on this system and can cause damage. If you need to reverse at an angle simply unhook the spring bars and sway bar from the trailer. This will be the case for most weight distribution systems.
