I have a 2001 GMC Yukon XL SLT Is there a way to set the C17422 up to allow backing up a trailer?

To be able to backup your trailer while the Curt Weight Distribution System with Sway Control, Trunnion Bar # C17422 is installed on the Yukon XL and the trailer, you will want to disengage the friction sway control bar. The sway control bar is the aspect of the system that requires the warning to not back up while the system in installed because it could be damaged in the process of backing up if the trailer were to turn too sharply.
If you will need to execute a sharp turn while backing up, it is best to not only disengage the sway bar, but also to remove it from the hitch and trailer. This is a fairly simply process of turning off the sway bar and pulling the pins to remove the bar from the sway bar balls.
With the sway bar removed from the trailer, you are free to back up your trailer.
