I'm giving this Smartplug cord and the Smartplug male trailer wall socket a 4-star rating, but not because the product isn't EXCELLENT. IT IS! On this 2-week camping outing, we have nearly lost our 37-ft. Rockwood Signature travel trailer TWICE to fire, due to the common, everyday 'Twist LOC" RV socket and matching cord overheating while operating our 50-amp trailer on 30 amps (coming between 2-3 amps of 30 amps, but not OVER 30 amps.) The standard 50 amp female power cord end and male plug installed into the side of the trailer MELTED while running on 30-amp service, drawing 26 to 28 amps continuous when both A/Cs were cycled on at the same time. Neither the cord itself nor the trailer's power feed cable ever got hot--ONLY THE CONNECTION where the power cord and trailer plug MEET. It nearly started a fire in the rear wall of our trailer. Melted wall insulation, charred the edges of the fiberglass siding and nearly burned the underlayment underneath the skin. Fortunately, it was NOT a wood product. Both the female cord end and the wall connector plug were melted and charred. Both were replaced by the mobile RV tech who does all of our RV work (I am disabled.) The new cord and trailer plug then melted again 24 hours later. I ordered this Smartplug cord and trailer plug from etrailer and got it in 4 days. Since new Smartplug cord & plug were installed, I am still pulling 25-28 amps when both A/C compressors are running, but I can feel very little heat on the outside or inside (where the trailer wiring is run into the wall), and the highest temperature I've recorded with the laser temperature gun is 102.5 degrees (high air temperature has been 95 degrees). PROBLEM SOLVED!! The only reason I gave these Smartplug items 4 stars is because of their COST!! The 30ft. Smartplug trailer cord and accompanying male trailer wall socket cost me $718!!! That's pretty close to RIDICULOUS!! They DID, however, SOLVE MY OVERHEATING WIRING CONNECTION PROBLEM!! Read the Smartplug ads and watch their YouTube video from etrailer (can be reached on etrailer's website). THEY AREN'T LYING!! Smartplug saved our very expensive RV!!3412205

Oh my! I am very glad everyone is okay and nothing or nobody was harmed in a potential fire. It is great to hear that a solution was found and you haven't had to worry since. I can agree on the price but it sounds like it was worth it for not having that fire issue any longer. What kind of RV do you have?

Our travel trailer is a 2020 Rockwood Signature 8328SB. The Signature models are Rockwood's most "upscale" offerings, with actual La-Z-Boy brand swivel/rocker/recliners, Serta mattress, hidden hinges, self closing drawers, etc. At 37 ft. long, the 8328SB is a fifth-wheel floorplan on a conventional travel trailer frame, with a huge front clothes closet streetside and washer/dryer closet/compartment on the curb side (and a very large outside storage compartment underneath the clothes closet), built on a conventional travel trailer platform, with a flat floor inside from front to rear. NO STEPS. That makes it much more convenient for senior citizens such as ourselves.

@NickS No, we aren't full-timers. But we do try to camp with our RV about 2 weeks out of each month from March to November. I was disabled at the age of 39, 35 years ago, so my wife, although at retirement age, must work if we want to continue to support the RV and a diesel GMC to pull it, and pay the camping fees. Our local Texas U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lake, Lake Whitney, is only 17 miles from home, and while we are camping, my wife (and her sister with her nearly identical RV) must continue to commute to work each weekday. But they both still love it. I schedule the site reservations to include 2 weekends on each trip, which gives them both time for some "real" R&R while we are out there. I had never RV camped until we were married in 1974, but she and her sister have been RV camping since they were a couple of months old, in 1952 and 1954, sleeping on straw in the back of their Dad's pickup. Since she must continue to work, and my wife loves RV camping so much, being the "financial nerd" I always make sure that I arrange our budget so that we can afford the recreation that she craves. We are both well aware of the fact that our health my force some changes ahead, or require that we give up RVing altogether, but we are determined to enjoy it as long as we can, which is why she's still working. We only go further than our local lake about once a season, but that suits her just fine. My job is to keep her happy!!

Easy install 15 to 20 minutes start to finish using the same screws and holes as factory plug. Pricey but I think you will find it worth the money.3612410

When I ordered this cord it was back-ordered from SmartPlug. Etrailer confirmed that with me and updated me twice on potential shipment arrival. They notified me early in the morning it had arrived and shipped it before noon. I recieved it the following day! Great customer service!! Installed the SmartPlug, took about 15 minutes. This cord is much more flexible than my original. The holes in the SmartPlug aligned with the holes in the OEM plug so swapping was simple. Overall I'm very satisfied.3610147
