  • Distance between arms (outside cradle to outside cradle): 12"
  • Distance between bikes: 7"
  • Carrier weight: 13 lbs

Note: This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar (sold separately) to mount a children's, women's, or alternative frame bicycle. However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.

Thule Gateway Pro

The Gateway Pro lets you carry 2 bikes on the back of your sedan, hatchback, or van. Adjustable legs with oversize pads fit the contour of your vehicle. Adjustable arms with HideAway anti-sway cradles keep your bikes level during transport, and they fold down for parking in tight spaces. It installs easily with 6 straps with nylon-coated hooks and a FitDial system with vehicle-specific settings. It includes a Thule One-Key System cable lock that secure your bikes to the rack, and you can fold it flat for storage in your trunk or garage.

HideAway Anti-Sway Cradles with Ratcheting Straps

Thule Gateway Pro anti sway cradles

The Gateway Pro has HideAway anti-sway cradles that secure each bike at 3 points - twice along the top tube and once along the seat post or downtube. This helps to keep your bikes from rocking back and forth and bumping into each other, or your vehicle. The soft rubber cradles are set 7" apart on the arms, preventing your bikes from becoming tangled on the rack. You can remove the lower straps and fold the cradles up against the arms to make it easier to slide your bikes onto the rack.

Adjustable Dual Arms

Thule Gateway Pro anti sway cradles<br class=

The Gateway Pro has adjustable arms that provide excellent support for your bikes. The built-in levers allow the arms to be adjusted up and down. Just flip the lever up, rotate the arm to the desired position, then flip the lever down to lock the arm in place. This helps to keep your bikes level on the rack and provides increased ground clearance.

Thule Gateway Pro anti sway cradles<br class=

The levers also allow you to fold down the arms when the rack is not in use and to fold the rack flat for storage.

6-Strap Installation with Fit Dial System

Thule Gateway Pro anti sway cradles<br class=

The rack installs quickly and easily with 6 nylon straps that keep it anchored in place. The steel hooks on these extra-long straps have a nylon coating to prevent scratches on your vehicle, and the straps tighten in place with easy-to-use, backpack-style cinches.

Thule Gateway Pro Fit Dial System

The FitDial system lets you easily adjust the rack to fit the shape of your trunk, and the long, arcing tubes are designed to fit over most factory spoilers. Simply press the Quick-Fit levers and rotate the base until the centers of the levers line up with the numbers on the dials. These vehicle-specific numbers are specified in the instructions included with the rack.

Thule Gateway Pro anti sway cradles<br class=

Holders with hook-and-loop tabs are included to bind up the excess strap length when the rack is mounted so the straps don't flap in the wind. They also keep the straps nice and neat when the rack is folded in storage.

Thule Gateway Pro foam pads

Oversized foam pads on the Gateway Pro's upper and lower bases grip your trunk or rear hatch to keep the rack firmly in place during transport. The soft padding helps prevent scratches and scuff marks on your vehicle.

Integrated Cable Lock

Thule Gateway Pro anti sway cradles <br class=

The rack includes an integrated cable lock to secure your bikes to the rack. It has a Thule One-Key System lock cylinder that can be swapped out if you own other Thule products and want to use the same key to lock them all. The cable lock extends from the tip of the left arm, threads around your bike's frames, and secures to the arm. It retracts back into the arm when not in use.

There is also an available locking strap (sold separately) that secures the rack to your vehicle.

Exactly as advertised, transported 2 Trek bikes on on the back of my 2016 Toyota Avalon without issue - travelling from Boston MA to Green Bay WI. Outstanding price buying this item as open-box. etrailer's website is the best I could find on the web with name brand racks, automated compatibility vehicle check, and they they shipped overnight.

Still works great, same setup same car and it is perfect for around town. Easy to put on and take off.

2018 BMW 3 Series

The delivery was quicker than I expected, but apparently the item was not checked before shipping. There was a key strap missing. I called customer service and they said they would send me a replacement part. If that goes well, I would move my rating to four stars from two.

We use this on a Mazda 6 and it works perfectly. We have a tandem bike and it is securely fastened and travels well. I highly. recommend this product.

by:

The bike rack itself is OK. We noticed that the strap leaves scratches on the trunk. We plan to use some type of soft material under the straps when we use the rack next month.

by:

This rack fits well on our 2015 Toyota RAV4. There are six attachment points, each with a coated hook on the end to fit around the trunk lid. Once mounted and tightened, the rack is comfortably stable and solid. Bikes are easy to mount as well, with just a few straps. Note that a BMX bike, due to its small geometry, will not fit.
Also of note, the hooks on the ends of the two straps which lead out in the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions will chafe the car's paint. I wrapped those in electrical tape in order to minimize the effect. Overall, a good choice for a trunk rack.

Good solid product with terrible instructions and tiny images. I was also disappointed it took so long to deliver. I was under the impression that it was going to be less than two weeks rather than five.

Marc

Rack works fine for short trips and is pretty easy to put on now that we have it figured out.

by:

A terrible disappointment.... the attachment of the bike to the rack with undersized and difficult to impossible to get on or off zip ties essentially made it useless....
Mounted it to my car, struggled to get the ties secured, and had the same issue each time taking the bike on and off.... as soon as I got home I put it in my trunk and never even Thought of using it again... last week gave it away to a staffer in my apartment house... A complete waste of money, & SHOCKED that no one at Thule ever figured it out... I was with an experienced biker who had a different rack, but his ties were bigger, better located and much easier to use... This was apparently the only trunk rack that would fit my BMW 5 series

by:

The bike rack overall was very good but my Toyota Corolla had a rear spoiler making the installation less than ideal. I adjusted the rack to fit the car but that left the bikes to sit in less than ideal position. On short trips it was fine but on a long 600 mile trip the bikes straps started coming loose. One completely came off. Also I may add there was a strong wind blowing too. On the way back we tied the bike down with extra nylon straps and all was good. For long trips I would add the extra straps and not just rely on the straps that came with the bike rack. Otherwise we had no trouble with the bike rack.

by:

Poor design.
Straps that hold bike onto
rack are not secured to rack when not holding bike. Unless you thread them in a closed position, they slide out of rack are lost. Making it even more annoying is that replacement straps have not been available for month. I’ve been using tree ties that I purchased at hardware store.

by:

The Thule bike rack and security strap work very well. We had to purchase an extra bar for my wife's bicycle. Consequently, her bike doesn't fit as perfectly to the rack's tightening straps as mine. But overall, with some adjustments, we were able to make it work.

by:

I've owned this trunk rack for a year, and it has held up wonderfully. It easily transports two bikes, even at highway speeds. The build of the rack makes me confident that my bikes aren't going anywhere. It's easy to take on and off, too.
I initially purchased this one because cheaper bike racks looked flimsy. I'm very happy I got this one, considering how reliable it is and how often I use it (nearly everyday).

by:

Overall, the bike rack works really well. However, the side and bottom trunk gate clip system loses its tension after being tightened and tend to slip off so that the rack is hanging by the top clips only. We have had to stop a couple of times to tighten the side straps. Other than that, love the rack.

by:

The product is great, and etrailer's customer service is beyond excellent! I needed this for a last-minute trip. The first bike rack I ordered was back-ordered for a couple of weeks, and customer service emailed me immediately to let me know. Korren was super helpful in selecting a replacement rack when I called in, and we ended up with a rack that is perfect for our needs.

by:

I have only used the rack twice but it fits and keeps my one bike in a perfect secure position. I wish that it was easier to attach But would buy it again and highly recommend

I have sold the car and the rack and have purchased a new suv . I stick with my original recommendation that this bike rack was a superior product wish the mounting instructions were better and I would highly recommend e trailer .com because they are totally professional

by:
2011 Toyota Avalon

When opened one adjustable arm was dislocated and very difficult to get back into its correct position. The clamps advertised as rubber coated are more metallic than I would like. The last thing I want is scratched trunk edges. Installation booklet could be improved. I had to watch online videos to feel comfortable I was installing it right. Seems to be sturdy, I like the lock.

by:
2019 BMW 5 Series

While it took longer to arrive than I expected, the bike rack is everything I expected. Just takes a while to decipher the instructions. Once that is done, installation doesn't take too long.

I liked the fact that there are many products to choose from.
There was excellent descriptions of the products and their functions.
Ordering was very easy and my trunk bicycle rack arrived right on time.
The bike rack also arrived in excellent condition.
Thank you "etrailer".

Excellent bike rack, works beautifully on my Subaru Outback. Smooth delivery by etrailer.com

by:

This bike rack is incredibly quick and easy to put on/take off, is very strong and durable, does well in any weather. I’ve had it for a year and have had absolutely no issues with it. Great quality and price. Would definitely purchase again.

by:

Works exactly as described, better than investing in a hitch mounted system for my needs (pleasure biking 1x week)

by:
2007 Mazda 3

Very nice, solid rack! Very good quality and attention to detail. Extra ties for the excess strap length is really appreciated. Fits my Honda H-RV perfectly too. I did have some difficulty raising the arms at first though because they were too tight. With a little elbow grease I did finally succeed in raising them. Could be a better design I think as it shouldn’t be that difficult. Overall though, I do think it’s an excellent product and working with Etrailer was superb.

by:

Nice rack, easy to assemble. However bike pedal scratched trunk of my car. Not sure if it was how I mounted the bike but it seemed secure and in the right position before I drove the car.

by:

Product was back ordered on manufacturers website until late September and the project arrived earlier than anticipated. Great customer service, thanks E-Trailer!

by:

This bike rack was exactly what I needed — worked perfectly.

  • Correct Fit Dial Setting for a Thule Gateway Pro Trunk Rack on a 2018 Subaru Impreza
The Fit Dial setting you need to install the Thule Gateway Pro 2 Bike Rack # TH88VR or 3 Bike Rack on your 2018 Subaru Impreza is 9. Please note that Thule doesn't list the 3 bike Gateway Pro as a "fit" for your vehicle, but they do list the 2 bike version as a fit. This is basically saying to avoid loading 3 bikes on the rack for whatever reason, so just keep that in mind as you use the bike rack.

  • Recommended Thule Trunk Mount Bike Rack on a 2019 Honda Fit
There are a number of Thule trunk mount bike racks that fit on your 2019 Honda Fit as long as it doesn't have the factory spoiler. Of them I recommend the Gateway Pro, part # TH88VR for the 2-bike model or part # TH78VR for the 3-bike. It's a high quality rack with some of Thule's great features like the FitDial and Hold Fast cradles without really bringing up the price tag. I've linked the complete list of Thule racks for your Fit as well; however, like I said, they won't fit if you...

If access to the rear hatch is really important I recommend installing a trailer hitch and then a hitch-mounted bike carrier that tilts to allow access to the rear cargo area. I'm happy to confirm that the Thule Gateway Pro 2 # TH88VR you were looking at fits your 2005 Cadillac CTS and will allow you to carry 2 bikes on your vehicle. • What Trunk Mounted Bike Rack Can I Use with a 22 Inch Clearance for a Trailer Jack Handle?
I have a solution for you. Unfortunately, the length of the Thule Gateway Pro 3 from the lower support to the end of the bike rack is about 23-1/2 inches. This will most likely interfere with the RV trailer handle (especially factoring in overhang for rear bike's pedals). In addition, there are no 3-bike trunk racks that will be less than the 22 inches you need for the clearance of the trailer handle for the jack. With that being said, I confirmed with my contact at Thule that the Thule...
