Installed this kit on my 2022 VW Passat. It works good however finding the right wire was a challenge. I wish that there was a plug and play taillight converter available.

by:

Still working great. Absolutely no problems. Had to tap into the fine wires on my 2006 Nissan X-Trail near the spare tire. Also brought a higher gauge wire from the battery via a fuse in the engine compartment routed under the car. Highly recommended.

Have purchased a number of hitches and wire harness for a number of different vehicles I have owned. All products were easy to install and worked perfectly . The instructions were clear and quality of their products is top notch. I have used their customer service to ensure I was ordering the right product for a older vehicle (75 Toyota Landcruiser) they were patient and ensured I got the right set . Their customer service is matched by their pricing and that would be hard to beat . Delivery (Canada) was exceptionally fast. Probably not my last order and I have recommended this company and their products to my friends. If your considering a purchase I don't think you will be disappointed and you will be saving lots of money doing it yourself.

  • What Does the 12 Volt Power Wire Do on the 2012 Honda CRV Wiring Kit by Curt
The purpose of the 12 volt power cable that gets run to the battery of your 2012 Honda CR-V is to protect the delicate tail light wiring circuit. It does this by only using your tail light circuits as signal wires and using the power it gets from the battery to power the tail lights. This prevents the tail light circuit from being overdrawn. You will need to run this wire or the Curt Wiring Harness # C56496 will not function. I attached an FAQ on running this wire for you to check out. I...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring Install Where all Circuits Are Active
If all of the circuits of your trailer harness are illuminating all of the time that would indicate that you did not wire up the harness correctly. It sounds like the problem is the taillight circuit you used for the harness. You would want to use the circuit that only sees voltage when the running lights are on and not one that is connected to the brake lights.

  • Replacement Trailer Wiring Converter Recommendation to Replace Shorted One
To replace the bad converter box you could use the # C56496. This will allow you to wire the converter to existing wiring of your vehicle and will come with a new 4-way connector. You will want to check the wiring of your trailer to find what shorted out your current converter before you replace it so that you don't short out the new one as well.

  • How to Replace Just the Converter Box of a Curt Trailer Wiring Harness
You could cut the old converter box out of your # C56164 and then install the converter box of part # C56496 in it's place. Normally we recommend to check the trailer wiring for any shorts and fix as necessary before connecting new trailer wiring so that the new box doesn't short as well. But since your trailer is brand new and works with your other vehicle you would most likely be fine.

  • Testing Trailer Wiring Converter Box to Determine if it is Damaged
If the trailer wiring was working properly why do you need to run that additional wire to the converter? It sounds like that is the problem. Only one source for the right turn and stop light circuit is needed. What you will want to do is test the wires going into the box of the converter box for voltage with a circuit tester like the # 3808 to see if there is voltage going into the box when the taillight functions of your vehicle are applied, and then test the output side of the box to...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring that Stops Working when Vehicle Headlights are On
What you described is a classic ground issue. The problem is that the added amperage draw of the head/running lights being on for your vehicle makes the trailer taillights a bit weaker. What you would want to is run the grounds of the light assemblies of your trailer back to the main ground harness of your trailer. I can almost guarantee that will fix the problem. I attached a help article for you to check out as well that covers 4-way troubleshooting.

The red wire of the Wiring Harness part # C56496 that you referenced should be run to the brake light circuit of your 2000 Nissan Xterra. If you are missing that connection I would recommend you verify that the other wires are securely connected to the correct circuits. Especially the black wire that needs to run to the positive terminal of your vehicle battery. To install the Curt Wiring Harness part # C56496 in your 2010 Chrysler Town and Country you will need to wire the harness by function and not wire color. The reason for this is what you already found out, the colors vary and all that really matters is the function. You will need to use the included circuit tester to test the different wires to determine their function and then wire them accordingly to the # C56496. I attached an install video for you to check out, but like I said you will...

  • Does the Curt Upgraded Circuit Protected Powered Tail Light Converter Draw Power While Not In Use
The Curt Upgraded Circuit Protected Powered Tail Light Converter - 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # C56496 only draws power from the vehicle while a trailer is attached and the lights are activated. Therefore, you don't have to worry about it draining your battery without a trailer attached. If you choose, you could remove the inline fuse on the power wire that leads from the battery to the converter box but this would not really have any affect so I just recommend you leave it inside...

  • Turn Signals Intermittently Working While Running Lights And Tail Lights Work
If the signals are trying to draw more power when in function, but are only working intermittently, I would first check the ground contact point. This will be the white wire from the converter box. Make sure you have a clean, maybe even bare metal surface to give you a solid ground connection. You can use a little sand paper to remove any paint or coating to this surface that might hinder a quality connection when grounding. Also look for any possible kinks or bends in the power from...

  • Tips for Finding Taillight Wiring on Hatchback Vehicle
What you will need to do is find the rubber conduit that carries the wiring from the hatch lights to the door frame of the vehicle. Typically this is at the top of the door. If you look for a black rubber hose that runs from the hatch to the door frame that's what you need. Inside this will be the wiring for the taillights. You will need to use a circuit tester like what comes with the # C56496 to test the wires to find the correct circuits.

  • Why Is Trailer Wiring Converter Harness Needed for 2007 Cadillac SRX
In a lot of vehicle the turn signals are separate from the stop lights which is different from how trailer lighting works. That's why a converter is needed to match the circuit styles. Also a lot of vehicle't taillights can't handle the amperage draw of the trailer taillights so the power has to come from the battery which is what the # C56496 also allows.
