Hub-Piloted Wheel

This wheel is hub piloted, which means that it centers on the hub, not the lugs. The wheel requires the use of flange nuts (sold separately) for installation.

Corrosion-Resistant Finish

The steel wheel goes through a 3-step finishing process that makes it both attractive and corrosion resistant. The wheel is first submerged in a zinc phosphate bath to ensure good paint adhesion. It is then e-coated with an acrylic primer base and finished on both sides with baked-on DuPont powder paint.

Provider Radials

Provider radials are constructed with double polyester cords and double steel belts for increased durability and endurance. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation. Provider radials are bake tested - a process usually reserved for automotive tires - to ensure that the rubber holds up over time.

Match Mounted and Balanced Trailer Tire Assembly

In an ideal world, tire-and-wheel assemblies would be perfectly round and even throughout. Unfortunately tires and wheels have imperfections that often cause vibrations, resulting in a rough ride and wear and tear on the assemblies, as well as on the rest of your trailer's running gear. Taskmaster helps to solve this problem by match mounting and balancing their assemblies so they're ready to roll when they reach your door.

To do this, Taskmaster uses a laser-guided machine to locate the heavy and light spots of each assembly. They then align the assembly so that lightest part of the tire is near the heaviest part of the wheel. The assembly is then rotated at high speeds to pinpoint the optimal place to apply weights to further balance the tire.

Don't delay your adventures by having to take your trailer to the shop for new tires. Start rolling as soon as possible with easy-to-install, fully balanced tire-and-wheel assemblies from Taskmaster.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for Review of Taskmaster Trailer Tires and Wheels - Tire with Wheel - TA96QR

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today I'm gonna take a look at this Taskmaster provider, 235/75 R17.5 radial tire in a load range J, and it's mounted on this 17 and a half inch silver solid center steel wheel that has an offset and an eight on six and a half inch bolt pattern. Now this tire and wheel assembly is ideal for heavy duty trailers. Now in this assembly, the tire is match mounted and balanced to the wheel for ride comfort and durability. The wheel itself is a heavy duty steel wheel. It's a solid center design.

It's sturdy and corrosion resistant. And the wheel goes through a three-step finishing process, which will include a zinc phosphate bath. Then they put an E-coat primer and then a silver power coat on the front and even on the back of the wheel. Now this wheel is a hub-piloted wheel, which means it's designed to center on the hub. So it will require a close fit of the center pilot hole to your hub.

The pilot hole diameter on this is 4.76 inches. Also, on hub-piloted wheels, because their lug holes are not beveled, they do require the use of flange nuts for installation. Those we do sell separately. They use a flange nut size of 5/8th inch by 18. And we mentioned this wheel does have an offset.

It does have an offset of eight millimeters. And a negative offset is when this hub mounting surface right here is in the back of the wheel center line. So when this mounting surface goes towards the back, that's gonna be a negative offset. This one has a negative eight millimeters. And of course the negative offset is gonna move the tire away from the trailer.

A few dimensions on the wheel itself, the diameter, 17 and a half inches. The width on just the wheels, six and three quarter inches wide. We mentioned the bolt pattern of an eight on six and a half inch bolt pattern, and the weight capacity on this wheel is 6,005 pounds. Now the tire that's mounted on the wheel, it is a radial tire. It is constructed with double steel belts, double polyester cords for a nice long life. It's great for highway use. They do use a nylon tread firming belt overlay to help prevent tread separation. And this tire is bake tested to ensure that the rubber holds up over time. It is created specifically for heavy duty trailers. It's not intended for use on other vehicles. The assembly does meet the DOT specifications and will exceed federal motor vehicle safety standards. Now the tire size, which will be stamped on the sidewall of the tire, just wanted to show you right here. You can see it's 235/75 R17.5. The R stands for radial tire. The section width, it's gonna be 9.2 inches. Overall diameter from the bottom to the top where it's inflated is 31.4 inches. And we mentioned the tire capacity on this is a load range J, which means it's an 18-ply radial tire. So it does have a maximum load capacity of 6,005 pounds when it's inflated up to 127 PSI. And the last thing I do wanna mention, these tires do come with a speed rating now, and they stamp that on the sidewall with a letter designation. And where you can find out where that is right after the tire size. You'll see a section that'll show two numbers for the load index and then the letter M. Speed rating M on this tire will mean that it has an 81 mile per hour speed rating. And as we mentioned, this tire is mounted and balanced. You can see the weights that they use right up here and then over here, right down here. But that's gonna do it for a look at this Taskmaster Provider 235/75 R17.5 radial tire in a load range J, mounted on the 17 and a half inch silver solid center steel wheel.
