Video Transcript for Bulldog Round A-Frame Jack Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Bulldog Round, A-Frame Trailer Jack, with the external gearbox. This is a side wind design, offering 13 inches of lift and a 3,000 pound capacity. Its part number is BD1550100317. As you can see, with this Bulldog Jack, we're going to have the housing right up here on the top; this is going to be our external gearbox. This makes it very accessible if we ever need to take care of it down the road, this is going to make it ideal for the agricultural or commercial use where we might have several jacks of this type around. We've got a long crank handle. It's the rod style or the kind that's round and solid rather than being a bent form piece of metal, so that's going to be very strong.

Then there's a larger than average knob here on the end, fills up the hand nicely and it's going to give us good crank power going both directions. With our jack in its fully extended position, we're going to have bracket height of about 20 and 1/4 inches; that's going to be the mounting surface or where we mounted the jack. To the top of the gearbox, it's going to be about 14 and a 1/2 and then to the very top of our handle, about 20 and 3/4, so just keep those measurements in mind. Now the handle from the center of our jack to its outside edges, right at about 6 inches, right to the end there. Just to give you an idea of the kind of clearance that you're going to need as you're moving this around and the kind of coverages that you're going to need. Now they've left the outer tube and the inner tube with a gray paint finish. Like we've bolted it on today, we could easily take our paint to it and get a good finish on it or if you weld it on you'll be able to paint over that.

If you like to paint it to match your trailer, it's going to be an easily convertible finish, but a sturdy and durable finish if we don't want to touch it. Now our outer tube diameter is 2 and a 1/4 inches and our internal tube, this is going to be 2 inches to the outside edges on both of those. That's going to allow us to mount any of our 2 and a 1/4 inch holes. The 2 inch tube, as you can see, is going to have the groove that runs through it to prevent it from turning while we're going up and down. It also has hole, it goes full through to allow us to attach any accessory that we might want. Now the accessories are sold separately, so check out our website for those.

Now with our jack in its lowest position, we're going to have about a 7 inch brace or bracket height or mounting level there. This is going to make it ideal for a lot of those very low clearance situations where you might need this style of jack. With the existing jack removed we can see the opening we're going to need here. This is going to be 2 and 1/4 inches from the edge to the edge. Our bolt spacing should be around 3 inches, from the center of one hole to the center of the other hole. Then it's just a matter of sliding our jack right down and in and just kind of rotate it until all three of our holes line up properly.

Then we'll use our existing hardware to secure it in place. Now, if your hardware isn't up to snuff, you will need some more . You need a grade 5, a minimum of a 3/8ths inch bolt. Then in the instructions you'll find the torque specs that you'll want to run those down to. Then we'll torque them to the right spec. Now we can lower our jack down and pick up our tongue on the trailer. With everything tighten and our jack working as it should, that's going to complete today's look at the Bulldog A-Frame Trailer Jack, part number is BD1550100317. .

Great jack, I previously had a 2000lb capacity jack for my 3500lb GVW trailer and it didn't have enough strength to smoothly lift the trailer every time. This 3000lb jack does the job. Thanks 732583

Great replacement. It took me about 5 minutes to change. I also got the drop leg . What a difference it makes. I will shop here again soon. It got a 4 star only because I don't believe in 5 stars. Nothing is perfect but this came close. Thanks for making it easy to shop and replace my broken jack with a real up grade to my 20 yr. old trailer. Pappy <>< 706088

I am very pleased with this trailer jack. Initially, i was worried that it would not provide the proper ground clearence that I required because of how low my trailer is. Etrailer has a wealth of information, all the way down to measurments when the jack is in the full up position. Installed without a hitch, no pun intended. This jack is great for those extra low trailers and is very well constructed. 380280

For the money, it serves its purpose well. It's a jack. As long as it goes up and down smoothly and does not collapse, it's all good. 353821

This BullDog tongue jack is a simple, strong and well-made replacement for heavier applications such with our 7000lb horse trailer. 270847

I bought this to replace a damaged jack on my small camper. I was looking for a jack with a shorter retracted extension since my camper sets low. This worked perfectly. The quality is outstanding. 229009

I was disappointed that the jack says Made in Mexico when the website says Made in USA. I have only used it once so far, but it works good and has more ground clearance than my old one. 102030

Comments
It was previously made in the US but we did not know the production change had happened. The site will be corrected shortly.

The gearing is very smooth and I was able to swap the handle to the inside of the tongue. 75343

Ask the Experts about this Bulldog Trailer Jack

  • Replacement Sidewind Jack for 23 Foot Boat Trailer with Shelby A-Frame Jack
Trailer jacks only have to lift the tongue weight of a trailer. So your trailer weighing about 4,000 lbs would only have about 400 lbs of tongue weight which the Bulldog jack part # BD1550100317 that you referenced would easily take care of. This matches the style of jack you need and fits the standard a-frame bracket your trailer has so it will fit and work really well. To add a wheel to this jack like what you have now you'll just need the part # BDCP555.

  • Difference Between Bulldog Jacks # BD1550100317 and BD1550101344
The only difference is the finish of the two jacks. If I were you I would go with the galvanized part # BD1550101344 as it will fight corrosion better than the painted version. Most likely it's an issue of that we sell more of the galvanized version, therefore we have larger orders of the jack so the price is a bit better.

  • Replacement Bulldog Jack # BD1550100317 for Jack On Trailer with Damaged Threads
You definitely do have a damaged screw and nut in your Bulldog jack # BD1550100317 based on what you described. Since those parts aren't available you'll have to replace the jack entirely or possibly just swap the internals from the new to the old. What happened is that you over-extended your trailer jack which is what ruined the threads of the jack.

  • Dimension of Bulldog A-Frame Jack From Bracket to Bottom of Tube
When the Bulldog Round, A-Frame Jack # BD1550100317 is retracted the measurement from the mounting bracket to the bottom of the tube is 7". I have made a photo for you to check out which shows this measurement.

  • Recommended Jack For 1998 Rockwood Popup Camper
From the specs and photos I was able to see for a 1998 Rockwood popup camper it looks like you have an a-frame jack on the trailer. I have attached a link to the a-frame jacks we offer you can check out. If you are looking for a sidewind jack I recommend a jack like the Bulldog Round, A-Frame Jack, part # BD1550100317. This has a 3,000-lb capacity and features a 13-inch lift. If you want a footplate for the jack I recommend part # BD018564 and if you want a caster for the jack you...

  • Jack With Short Retracted Height for Horse Trailer
The # TJA-5000-B jack has a 10-3/8" retracted height without a footplate so for a 5,000 lb jack with less retracted height, a great option is the Rack'em B-52 Round A-Frame Trailer Jack # RA-29. This jack has just an 8-1/2" retracted height and if you add the Bulldog Detachable Footplate # BD018564 you will be adding less than half an inch to that. If you needed even less height you would need to get a jack that does not have as much lift capacity. The lift capacity only needs to...

  • Drop Leg for 3K Bulldog Round, A-Frame Jack # BD1550100317

  • Recommended Trailer Jack Options For 1993 Jayco Eagle Camper
For your 1993 Jayco Eagle camper weighing 6800 lbs, I am not sure if you need an A-frame tongue jack for a travel trailer, replacement landing gear for a 5th wheel, or stabilizer jacks. The side jack makes me think 5th wheel or stabilizer jack but I will give all recommendations. If your 1993 Jayco Eagle is a 5th wheel trailer, I recommend the Stromberg Carlson Electric Landing Gear Set - Weld On - 34-7/8" Lift - 5,500 lbs # LG-1. This landing gear has a leg length of 29-1/2 inches...

  • Drop-Leg A-Frame Jack for 4500-lb Travel Trailer
The 2500-lb-rated Square Jack # MJSQ-2500B certainly has enough capacity to lift the 600-lb tongue weight (TW) of a 4500-lb travel trailer although this particular jack is primarily intended for marine trailer applications. This jack's included bracket mounts to the side of a trailer frame that measures up to 3-inches wide and between 2- and 5-inches tall. Since your travel trailer is an a-frame you might consider a comparably-rated a-frame jack like the 3000-lb-rated Bulldog # BD1550100317...
