Perfect for light-duty towing, this custom, vehicle trailer hitch receiver features fully welded, gloss powder coated steel construction. Drawbar sold separately. My Curt Receiver looks stout and well made. Instructions are good and the service from Melissa is extraordinary. I is rare to find such great customer service like what I got from Melissa. She is a keeper.
Anybody that is towing anything with an automobile should automatically just go to a etrailer first they'll have what you need.
Hitch fit perfectly and was able to install in my driveway on a warm winter day.
Instructions that came were extremely accurate and made the job easy to perform. Thanks again and a very Hapoy New Year!
I love my hitch. Quinn was extremely helpful in helping me get the right one!
Response time for delivery was good, but the hitch that was sent to me was gouged to the bare metal. I know that this is going under my car, but if you buy something new, you want it to be in top shape.
Shipped on time as advertised and complete. Instructions were well written and accurate for hitch itself, but missing a couple steps for the electrical connector kit, (as for taking apart the car trim) so took some time to figure out. (The instructions were from the manufacturer and not etrailer.com itself). Connector worked fine on installation. The fit of the hitch was very precise, so precise that at first I thought it wasn't the right model. But I persevered, and it did fit. The close and precise fit is appreciated, it should help eliminate possible looseness, rattling, and weakness. This is my third Curt hitch from etrailer.com on 3 different cars. I would definitely buy from them again.

These are not the first Curt products I ordered from Etrailer. After a year, I have no complaints about the products, and certainly none about Etrailer. I find the Curt products well designed in form, fit, and durability, and Etrailer a fast and efficient way to order them. I may or may not have noted before that sometimes the heavy metal products tend to overwhelm the cardboard packaging during shipping, but have not had much more the cosmetic damage because of it. I imagine the metal pieces poking through the boxes are more of a problem to other packages on the shipping truck than to the hitches themselves. Im sure its a solvable problem, but right now I have Curt hitches on both my cars, so dont anticipate needing another for some time. Therefore I wont be able to see any packaging improvements. Thanks for the good service,
I've been considering installing a hitch for a long time, but constantly held off due to not wanting to deal with the hassle of dropping my exhaust.
So, when 12 years of New York road salt caused my midpipe to disintegrate and my mufflers to become swiss cheese, I figured this was a perfect opportunity to install a hitch in the process of replacing my exhaust. Installing the hitch should be easy if my exhaust is completely removed from the vehicle!
I was dead wrong about that.
I should have paid more attention to the reviews from people who found their hitch too narrow and interfering with the bumper brackets between the hitch and the fuel tank. The first hitch I received was impossible to get even close to the rearward mounting holes. I cannot figure out how anyone was able to bend something like this into shape either...
I also noticed that it seemed like it would be unlikely that the bolt that goes through the tow loop would fit either, as it looked about 1/4 inch too far rearwards compared to the hitch. However since the hitch wasn't even close to in place at the forward mounting ears, I figured it was just an optical illusion/bad angles.
I called support, and they said that hitches can sometimes get bent in shipping. They sent out a second one, and it arrived yesterday.
The second one was SLIGHTLY wider. It still interfered with the bracket, but not as severely, to the point where, after wire brushing the bracket to remove rust, I was just barely able to get the rearward bolts to go into their holes, then the forward bolts, and I was able to tighten them down despite the hitch rubbing against the brackets on both sides.
At that point it was time to get the tow loop bolt in - but it was 1/4 inch too far rearwards to go into the slot in the hitch.
I tried, now that bolting it in had bent the ears outwards some, starting with the two loop bolt and then trying to insert the others. But if you have the hitch hanging from the tow loop bolt, once you get one of the "ear" bolts in, on the other side of the vehicle you can't get the "ears" anywhere close to where they should be.
That's two duds in a row, I give up...
As far as the attached pictures:
One shows the rust on the "ears" of the first hitch where it was rubbing against the bracket.
One shows the tow loop bolt too far rearwards relative to the hitch
The last shows a shot of the offending bracket in question - most of the image has been darkened to highlight the specific problem area, no other editing was performed. You can see that in the rear of the problem area, it looks like there is a weld bead. I'm wondering if on some Outbacks the bead does not extend as far forwards and if this is what's interfering with the hitch. Either way, if the "arms" of the hitch were each about 1/8-1/4 inch longer, the hitch would fit perfectly - but they aren't and the hitch comes close to fitting, but not close enough to actually be installable.

A lot of customer have some difficulty with installing the hitch on vehicles with a tow loop. The key is to loosely tighten all of the bolts and then torque down the n 12-13 bolt through the tow loop first. After that torque down the rest of the bolts. That does seem to help the install go smoother. Please let me know if this helps.
Well this install on my '05 Outback Wagon was more challenging than the last one I did on my '05 Baja but all's well that ends well. Haven't done the wiring yet because the hardware install took all day but confidence is high. These guys make a quality product!
I was impressed with the fast delivery. I previously injured myself and could not install my Curt C12284 when it arrived. I read all of the other product reviews regarding the easy installation of the hitch.
Once I healed, I unpacked everything, inventoried the parts, then followed the instruction sheet along with the video. Everything went fine until I positioned the two front support units of the hitch into place. I could not get them up high enough to align them with the two threaded slots on each side. I called the etrailer help line. Assisting me, was a helpful lady who explained that 7 out of 10 of the hitches needed a slight modification to clear the frame under the 2007 Subaru. She recommended what the professional installers do--take the upper support bracket sections of the hitch and position them into one of my outdoor porch steps and slightly bend them in an outward direction. I made three efforts and was successful on the last attempt!
I quickly positioned the hitch and secured it with the five bolts, washers & blocks. I finished up with a torque wrench. I am pleased. All I need now is to purchase the trailer and hook it up along with my etrailer wiring harness.
Good instructions. I watched one of the videos which helped. Was a little surprised when they said that I would have to remove the factory installed mud guards. Luckily they are rubber and bend enough to get the exhaust hangers around them. It would have been a pretty easy install but I found that the hitch needed to be about a quarter of an inch wider to get around two angle brackets where the forward most bolts install. I had to loosely start one side and then pound the other side into place until the bolt would line up with the bolt hole.
Everything worked out ok but the finish in some areas took a beating.
To do the install I backed the car up onto a set of car ramps set the brake and chocked the front wheels. Plenty of room to work.
There is a very handy tool for removing the exhaust hanger rubber mounts, had one from another install not sure if etrailer.com sells them, got mine at a local auto parts store.
Tight fit, but Yes it did work. I installed in myself in the driveway. The bolts did fit my 2005 Subaru Legacy Outback. One suggestion to etrailer would be to make the carriage bolt that drops down through the toe ring an inch longer.
Great item and fast shipping. Easy installation and personally i used silicone spray on the rubber grips and it worked like a charm to take them off and place back on. Made the job a lot easier and faster. Now i won't have to borrow my brothers truck to pull my utility trailer. Also a easy mount for my bike rack as i originally purchased the hitch for. Again a great hitch with all the bolts to go with, can't go wrong with this company. STARS!!!!
It installed easily and works well. The one complaint is that the receiver portion does not extend far enough out. When folding up my kuat bike rack, it is to tight to the back if my Subaru (scrapes the bumper)!
Despite the EXTREMELY tight fit of the side brackets, this hitch is of very high quality and is durable. Happy with my purchase!

After a year the hitch is still tight without adjusting. It works just as good as the first day I put it on. No signs of weathering or wear just dirt from my adventures.
I purchased a trailer hitch and bike rack. Both shipping cartons were damaged on arrival, but nothing had spilled out. The trailer hitch is installed , but required some prying with a bar to set in place. I was able to complete the installation properly and am pleased with the final result.
The bike rack appears sturdy and easy to install and remove.

I give 4/5 because it was easy to install with the exhaust dropped, it's sturdy like it should be, and everything matched up perfectly. However, I do not enjoy how exposed it is, you can see almost the entire thing from behind the car and I guess that's my bad for not looking into it in depth. Anyways I love Curt hitches, this is my second one and I'll probably continue to buy from them.
Both the Curt Cargo basket and the curt trailer hitch came on time and were as described. I continue to order from etrailer because they are reliable, accountable and consistent.
Thank again for a great service and products.
I followed the video to install this on my 07 Subaru Legacy. Everything was correct and lined up. I did this with a simple jack and jack stands by myself. Tip: Prop an object (like a box) under the exhaust to hold it up, no need to straps or anything like the video shows because of how close the car is to the ground (if you're doing it in your own garage without a fancy lift)
Hitch is great quality. 2 issues: the hitch didn't install smoothly on my 2005 Outback XT. There's a steel bracket where the hitch mounts to the frame. I had to loosen 2 bolts to allow just enough play so that I could get the hitch to fit. That detail was not in the instructions. Also, there's a white Curt label on the hitch that was difficult to peel off. I had to use rubbing alcohol and a plastic scraper to remove it. Otherwise, the hitch feels sturdy. I haven't towed anything with it yet but I'm confident.
So far so good, haven't installed yet but I'm sure it's great.Price was very reasonable too!

Very good
The hitch fit really close and installation was a breeze, with only a few curse words while stretching the plates a little one way or another. Shims were included though I did not need them. The video instructions from etrailer were very helpful.
I haven't installed it yet, but the quality of the hitch is top notch. I would recommend etrailer.com to my closest friends... I'll leave more feedback after the hitch is installed......planning a 2500 mile trip dragging a trailer so I'm gonna give it a workout! Thanks for the great service!
Product was exactly as expected. Fit perfectly. I also recommend viewing the videos on installation. Very helpful!
We had to order Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter as the hitch sits a little inside under the bumper
This item fit my car perfectly. Just drop the exhaust enough to wiggle the hitch in place. I installed the toe strap bolt first to hold it in place then it was super easy to install the other bolts. Aligned perfectly for the remaining bolts. 2005 Outback wagon.

I see that your hitch has received some scratches on it due to shipping. This does tend to happen and when it does, we recommend using a Rust-oleum type paint to cover up any scratches and prevent corrosion in the future during use. I have a link below for reference.
