Curt hitch C13068 and cover I-728 installed on an Oddy 2012 for the purpose of installing a YAKIMA bike rack. Due to the combination of OEM price and the need for large cutouts in the bodywork required I decided on CURT aftermarket vs. OEM. Selected CURT based on ground/receiver ground-clearance, looks and no mods to bumper bodywork. I installed the CURT hitch by myself in about 1 hour, I used a furniture dolly to move the hitch into position and cribbed it with wood to get to the right height. I did not undo the exhaust mount. Some people have expressed concern over the hitch design, at the end of the day in this "product liability environment" I assume CURT is doing their homework and properlly designed the hitch. Mind you, I do not expect to connect anything heavier than a loaded Yakima 4 bike rack (less than 250 lbs loaded).
I do not think I can add to the wealth of information provided by etrailer and the CURT instructions themselves, other than I disagree with the comment to not install the driver side plastic cover. I re-installed by trimming with a box cutter a approx. 1/2 in. × 4 in. corner section.
With regards to e-trailer. They could do a slightlly better job packing the hitch so that they do not break through the box (mine showed up sticking out with some minor scuffs). Mind you, I would buy from them again tomorrow based on all the product info, videos and reviews (good and bad), THANK YOU and Kudos
I deduct the CURT hitch 1 notch, for not extending the wings to capture all three (3) OEM mount points.
Other notes: I separatelly installed an OEM tranny cooler as recommended by HONDA.

Good evening!Great job in placing back the driver side plastic cover. I have a question on photo no.1, whats the extension above the hitch

Patrick B.

8/29/2013

That is actually a hitch cover that he wedged up above the hitch to get it out of the way. If you look closely, you can see it has a tether that goes around the hitch behind the collar at the moth of the hitch. It is part I-728.

Hi Francisco, Thanks for the great review. It helped us to clear any doubts and decide on the hitch. One humble request...could you please post the picture for where you replaced the driver side plastic cover? Im curious to see how to cut out in order to replace it. Many Thanks!

Francisco

12/30/2013

You just need to cut on one corner of the inside lip of cover, you are cutting the tip of this lip. Take your time, place the cover and cut away the interference little-by-little. I placed and removed three times because I wanted a tight fit and did not wanted to cut more material than required. Attached find two images indicating the location where I had to cut on the inside lip of the cover. I used a box cutter and shaved little by little, you could also use a hot knife or a rotary tool just dont overcut. Take your time.

2013 HondaOdyssey

We bought a new (to us) Odyssey. Our last Odyssey gave us a great 11-12 years, and the hitch made family vacations all the more possible. I don't do my own car repairs, don't change my oil and don't didn't install the first hitch on our former car, but I wasn't that impressed with the hitch from the Orange moving/rental/storage company that sold and installed my first hitch. Someone recommended I check out etrailer.com. After reviewing a couple hitches, I chose this Curt Class III. The guys as etrailer rated the install as "easy" and gave both "pro install" and "DIY install" times. I found them helpful and accurate.
Prompt shipping. Excellent customer service. The included instructions and video were easy to understand.

2010 HondaOdyssey

So, i've been looking for a hitch for my 2010 Honda Odyssey EX-L van to use for transporting bikes with a bike rack I just purchased. Went to trailer rental place and they were just charging too much for the hitch and installation. Since I purchased my bike tray rack for my roof rack on my sedan here on etrailer, I decided to see what hitches were offered. I went with the Curt Class 3 hitch for my vehicle after reading the reviews and watching the video that etrailer provided for instructions.

I received the package through UPS. Unfortunately, there was a hole where the hitch made its way through during the shipping process. No biggie I said. Cleaned out the mount points on the van with WD-40 and a tube bristled brush. Tested all mounted points with the provided screws and everything looked to be dialed.....Until I tried mounting the hitch. Screwed in one bolt on the driver side and tried to mount the other bolt on the passenger side to no avail. The hitch was off by just a tad under .25mm. The hitch wouldn't line up no matter what I did. So, i took a clothe (to protect the nice finish) and my rubber mallet and hammered it out. It just took a few good hits to make up for the difference to line up the hitch. I'm thinking that it probably got out of line during the shipping process via UPS. Maybe thick pieces of styrofoam would've helped on both ends to prevent this from happening.

Anyways, I mounted the hitch, torque the bolts to specs, and everything lined up perfectly. The hitch install was very easy and probably a 20 minute job with one person only. I really like the finish of the Curt hitch and the way it's constructed. It's very solid with a 2 bike rack carrier. I rated this to be four stars just because I had to hammer out the difference to make the hitch line up. Again, it's probably the shipping process via UPS. But then again, I believe if it was packaged and protected with the styrofoam pieces on the corners, the hitch wouldn't of become misaligned during the process. I read all the reviews and it looks like one other customer had the same issue.

Thank you so much for the hitch etrailer. Here are pics that I took this morning mounted and cleaned of 2010 Honda Odyssey EXL.

2016 Subaru Outback Wagon

Product is very nicely painted and arrived well packed. The video directions provided by etrailer were fantastic. I didn’t even have to jack the vehicle up.

At this point, summer 2020 on a 2014 Odyssey, you’re probably going to want to buy a tap for the captive nuts on your vehicle. WD40 and a brush were not sufficient to clean out the nuts. The ones on the exhaust side are open to the elements. Buy a M12 x 1.25mm tap and handle. I had to use a 6” extension from a socket set to clear the exhaust. After tapping the hitch went in no problem. Personally I don’t know why you’d buy a more expensive “hidden” hitch as this one is pretty nicely tucked up there. *Careful when buying things like bike racks though. The receiver is quite a ways from the end of the bumper.

The driver’s side plastic guard will need some slight trimming to get it to fit back in place. I used a rotary tool and zipped off a bit of plastic. Pretty simple.

*Note: As of this review I haven’t actually used the hitch yet.

2015 HondaOdyssey

Installed on 2015 Honda Odyssey. Normally a two man job, but used a 6" X6" an a 4" X 6" to brace center (see pics) which allowed me to do it by my self. No jack or lift required, plenty of room under van. Hardest part was getting the 10mm bolt reinstalled for the dust cover.

Instruction sheets and etrailer installation video are great help. Review before you start.

Mostly this will be utilized for a handi-cap cart lift.

Fast delivery and secured package (no dents or scratches), easy to install (just watch the video link that the etrailer had provided), I need to to use Tap 12mm x 1.25 to remove the rust from my van especially the passenger side (I took my time on this and make sure I don’t strip the tread). I did use another person just to left the hitch and then jack it up to hold. I’m pretty satisfied the outcome and thank you etrailer for the good communication throughout the entire process. I highly recommend this Curt Trailer Hitch, this is for my 2016 Honda Odyssey.

by:
2006 HondaOdyssey

Very solid hitch for my 2006 Honda Odyssey. About as hidden as I could hope for as the van has no space to tuck one out of sight with the tub for the folding rear seat right behind the bumper. Receiver sits about an inch further under the car than the bumper, so I have never banged my shin on it. Easy install.

by:
2012 HondaOdyssey

The hitch arrived without issue. The box had no damage or any look of being mishandled. Installed the hitch with reletive ease although a second hand could have been used in certain instances. I chose not to mess with moving the exhaust. We are excited to utillize the hitch when we embark on our annual camping trip!

by:
2016 HondaOdyssey

First of all The staff at etrailer were great at resolving a problem I had.
The hitch looks great on my 2016 Odyssey. The bolt holes didn't line up perfectly (probably got dropped on the end of the box by the shipper). I just laid it down on the garage floor and whacked each end once or twice with a sledge hammer. The bolt holes now lined up perfectly. Fishing the third bolt on the drivers side went smoothly.
All in all I'm extremely satisfied with the hitch and the people at etrailer. I highly recommend etrailer for all your trailering needs!

It has worked great. I only use it for a larger bike rack but Im sure it would be just fine if I were to tow anything. Thanks again!!

2011 Chevrolet Suburban

Went on fairly easy. I had to do a loaner torque wrench from our local auto parts store. Which they return the deposit when you bring it back. I also did have a little help from my 9 year old son. Total time to install took about 1 hour for me. I decided to trim the back fascia panel and put it back on so that took up about 20 minites of that time. One reason I chose this model from Curt was the ground clearance. We are planning a trip to Florida later this year and didn't want to take our Suburban. We already had a cargo rack and cargo bag, so this will work great for our luggage.

Great

by:
2007 HondaOdyssey

We are really pleased with this hitch. It was easy to install and looks great on the Odyssey. The most difficult part of installation was scrubbing out the mounting holes on the van. We ended up using some wire brushes from a gun cleaning kit. Just takes a little elbow grease (why they don't put plastic plugs in while being manufactured is beyond me-it can't save that much money).

by:
HondaOdyssey

This is not the first nor will it be the last hitch I have purchased from etrailer. if this one performs like the previous ones then it is a durable solid hitch which hauls dirt bikes, kayaks, dirt, rocks, mulch & sand on short and long hauls without problems. If that isn't enough reason to get an etrailer hitch then they really look good, well secured & tucked away under both of our Honda Odyssey's. Easy to understand install instructions & neat little tools to make life better during the installation plus the online video if one needs them. All of the above and FAST shipping!

by:

Delivered quickly. Fit well, with minimal fussing around to get it on. Biggest problem was getting the dirt and rust out of the chassis threads. The bolting is not a size that is standard in a tap set, it appear tos be a "sparkplug" thread, so had to buy a tap just to get the bolts to thread in. Getting the tap started took some fussing and finesse, but was eventually accomplished. After that, it went quickly. Looks great and is tucked away mostly out of sight. Pulls a trailer just fine.

2015 HondaOdyssey

This 2" hitch works great on our current model (2015) Honda Odyssey - we use it mainly for a Yakima Ridgeback 4-bike rack.

This is our 2nd rack from etrailer.com - great delivery and wonderful customer service.

I got the c 13068 trailer from e trailer for my 2014 Honda Odyssey after checking around Online and pleasantly surprised with the order, shipping, and product.

I wasn’t sure how long it would take (Due to covid) but the trailer came in a timely manner. I was able to install it myself in about 2-hours but would have taken less than 1 hour if I had all the right tools.

Since I installed it myself, I actually didn’t lift the car or removed the exhaust. Here is my experience and suggestion

1. Get the tools a head of time. Autozone let’s you loan a torque wrench and other tools if you need it. The torque wrench isn’t common so I’d get one on loan there.
2. The 11/16 and 19 mm sockets aren’t common so look for those before you start.
3. If you don’t plan to remove the exhaust, work on the car when it’s cold. I drove it to a friends to finish and the exhaust was somewhat hot.
4. Having a second person is helpful but not necessary.

Overall, I think it’s fine. I could do a follow up review but we are mainly using it for bikes and luggage. Should do the trick and really useful.

This is a well-made hitch receiver with a nice finish. I plan to use it to haul utility trailers with my Odyssey. It is resting right under the bumper, so ground clearance is maximized.

One star deducted for the 1/8" misalignment of the slots with my frame's threaded holes. I tried to install it in my driveway and failed; my mechanic buddy threw the car up on his lift, put a drift pin in the slot, and pried it over. 10 minutes of work for him that would have taken me hours without his expertise.

Jeffrey

8/12/2021

No complaints. I regularly haul a 12 utility trailer and a custom roof-rack extension that I built. I have not once scraped the receiver on the road, so ground clearance is excellent.

by:

Hitch fits like a glove, bike rack fits perfect and the rear door clears the
bike rack when it is tilted. I'm 75 and it took me, myself, and I 30 minutes
to complete the install.

I was NOT happy in the least with the UPS delivery service. I've lived at my address
for almost 25 years and get 2 - 3 UPS deliveries a month. The driver supposedly
tried to deliver the hitch 3 times but claimed my address was not good. I drove over to the UPS "Customer Service Center" earlier today and picked up the hitch.

UPS had beaten the package up but everything was still inside and in reasonable shape, couple minor scratches. I did some touch up before installing.

I'm not alone! When one googles the Forest Park GA UPS "Customer Service Center", a complete misnomer, ratings, its average rating is 2.5 Stars and if you read all of the 151 comments if most had a choice below a one they'd given it to the UPS Service Center. I give the Center NEGATIVE 5 Stars and the driver a NEGATIVE 10 stars.

Trailer hitch has worked fine.

by:
HondaOdyssey

Despite being easy to install (all hitches for the Odyssey are that way), the design is simply lacking when compared to the Hidden Hitch or Draw-Tite. The Odyssey has three factory mount points on each side. The Curt hitch only uses four of the factory mounts, their fifth requires you to snake a bolt up. While not difficult, it's simply a poor design compared to the alternatives (they use all six factory mounts)

Unfortunately I didn't notice this until the hitch arrived (my bad, and in to way a reflection on etrailer, their service was great).

Chris

David

7/29/2014

Thank you so much Chris for this review. I was leaning towards the Curt trailer hitch because of the extra 12 inch of clearance that it gives over the Hidden Hitch and Draw-Tite which both have 12 inches as opposed to 12 1/2. But, now that I have verified how many bolts are used, I will probably go with Hidden Hitch. Thanks again.

2007 HondaOdyssey

This was an easy install on my Odyssey van: Lift one side, get a screw in, lift the other side, get a screw in, install rest of hardware, and torque everything down. My 1up bike rack folds up without interference when I pull the rack out of the receiver maybe 1/2 inch from fully forward.

by:
2013 HondaOdyssey

Easily installed, even while being in a hurry. The hitch met my needs and doesn't ride low. Attaching a picture of the hitch with a bicycle rack already installed.

by:
2015 HondaOdyssey

This hitch is awesome but was a bit of a pain to put on due to the passenger side threading on my van being gunked up (no cover on that side). I recommend getting a tap ahead of time since WD-40 and a wire brush for 20 minutes didn't cut it. It was an otherwise fun and easy project.

This product and website are amazing! Best bang for your buck. I called Honda to get a quote for the tow hitch and was quoted 1200$ for labor and parts. I bought this hitch for only 130 and some change and put it on myself very quickly. It took no more than 20 minutes if you have all the right tools.
Website was very helpful in explaining everything and it shipped in 3 days! I am very pleased with my experience. I never do reviews or any kind of feed back, but felt like I had to I was so impressed.

  • Are Their Holes on Brackets of End Brackets Curt Hitch # C13068
The holes you can see in some of the pictures of the Curt hitch part # C13068 don't actually go all the way through and allow access to the hitch's cross tube. Otherwise that would allow water to get into the hitch and potentially cause rust prematurely.

All of the hitches we offer for your 2011 Honda Odyssey have a 3,500 lb towing capacity. There aren't any available with a higher capacity. Even if there was I doubt your vehicle would have the needed capacity. Check your owners manual to see what the towing capacity is. Most likely it wouldn't be enough to tow a 5,500 lb trailer. In a towing setup the weakest component is the overall capacity as a setup is only as strong as it's weakest component.

  • Fixing Broken Weld Nuts on 2006 Honda Odyssey Installing a CURT Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver
The weld nuts were probably still dirty, when you were installing the hitch which caused the weld nut to brake off when putting torque on it. If you have not already installed the other bolts, you will want to clean them out with WD-40 and wire brush (see video link). What you will want to do is take some vice grips to hold the head of the bolt in place, then take an angle grinder with a cut off wheel or a reciprocating saw to cut the bolt.
