Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

2019 Subaru Ascent

Got this hitch for my 2019 Subaru Ascent. It shouldn't have been listed as a 10/10 difficulty for install. I followed the excellent video by etrailer and got it done in about an hour. After installing at least 4 hitches myself in the past, I would say that this was probably the easiest job because of not having to crawl underneath and bench pressing the hitch up while trying to fish the bolt through. Great design for both the car and hitch! 654970

The hitch is great (this is our second drawtite) , but the transmission on the Subaru Ascent is garbage. If you're going to tow, get a trailer with trailer brakes and purchase a trailer brake controller. This thing was extremely easy to install, just be gentle when removing the back bumper cover. 728319

Very quick and easy installation without help if you watch the video (A must!)! Fits perfectly and doesn't require special panel tools or any cutting or breaking! Price is very reasonable and shipping was fast and free! If you have an Ascent with rear splash guards it's slightly more difficult because there is one more panel pin to pop out that is under the guard. I was able to get it by loosening one of the screws in the wheel well and just twisting the guard, then using a flat head screw driver to reach in and pop it out. Getting it back in was a little more difficult, but all in all, still far easier than the previous few hitches I've installed. Another note, like another review mentions, is that there are two tabs that slightly protrude. You can bend these back a little by hand, or just tighten the hitch and it will push them in. Mine arrived with a handful of chips out of the protective black paint coating, but I'm not too worried about it since it sits up high and is partially protected. 615358

Shipment arrived in perfect condition. The instruction included were not as comprehensive as the online one so go with the online instructions. Install was easy less than 45 minutes and I was able to do it without a second set of hands. There are two angles on the car frame that protrude out preventing the hitch to sit flush, however as you tighten the bolts the hitch will push them inwards and eventually sit flush, from the looks of it the angles are light guage and can be bent back in place should you decide to remove the hitch. 595982

I purchased this hitch to install on my Daughter's new 2019 Subaru Ascent. After looking at the dealer sample, it's pretty easy to assume that the two parts are made by the same manufacturer. The instructions offered here at Etrailer.com were easy to follow and provided exactly what I needed to get the job done. I'm a retired mechanic with 45 years of wrenching, but I always take advantage of the advice of others, and the instructions were perfect. The fit was precise, with room to slide the hitch to find the exact center before tightening. By the way, kudos to Subaru for obviously doing their best to make this vehicle tow hitch ready; it was the easiest reciever hitch I've ever installed. The custom-fit 4-pin harness likewise was plug and play as well. I took the harness through a slit in an existing harness grommet, securing it to several stand-offs over the spare tire well. 699482

The hitch installed easily and fit well. It took me about an hour to install... Removing the bumper fascia wan't as intimidating as I though it would be, and it clicked back into place easier than expected. One note to keep as a back up... the torc on the 4 bolts that attached to the Ascent frame was a little much and it stripped one of the threads (I was using a torc wrench). There luckily was enough bolt purchase from the inside of the bumper to allow for a high-grade nut to be placed on it. I ended up snugging 4 more nuts on the others just in case. Solid product, bolts straight on. I was quoted $399 for professional installation. I did it myself in a little over an hour. The crux is the bumper cover pop fasteners, and if you have any experience with trim fasteners it should be NBD. 674959

I was a bit hesitant to try this install myself as etrailer rates the install as 10 out of 10 difficulty. However after watching the installation video here on the Website, I felt that it was something I could handle though I struggle at times to even put together Ikea furniture haha Overall the install took me a little over an hour but I would like to note that I had to go buy another Socket size that was NOT mentioned in the install video and really should be. If I remember right, the socket size not mentioned was for the bolts that etrailer provides for the install of the hitch to the mounts. It's been a few weeks since I did the install, so for the life of me, I can't remember what size it was that I needed to go buy but it was annoying as I went out and purchased the two socket sizes mentioned in the video, so that I would have them, and then found I needed yet another. However, if I wasn't so pleased with how easy this install was, and how happy that I am with the quality and build of this hitch I would have dinged one star for the inconvenience. As it stands, I am happy with the purchase of this hitch for my new Subaru Ascent. Shipping was quick, quality is great and install was pretty easy actually. 662839

All-in-all, the DIY hitch/wiring installation on my new 2020 Subaru Ascent was very successful and everything works. I would do it again this way, primarily because the etrailer.com videos showed me exactly what to do (mostly) and because Chris was very helpful getting me all of the right parts. I spent around $300 less than I would have if I had someone else install the hitch and wiring. I also got a new Curt Echo brake controller which (I hope?) is better and easier to use than the 15 year old brake controller I used with my old TrailManor camper trailer. My son and I did invest a lot of time yesterday doing the installation, but I think it was worth the effort. I wrote the numbered list below mostly for me so that I will remember to follow-up and clean-up my wiring installation. 1. The 40 amp fuse for the "black hot wire" near the battery under the engine hood is not screwed down because I could not find a good place to put it that is out of the way. I need to figure out what to do with it. 2. I forgot to use the dielectric contact grease. so I need to go back and re-do each wire connection point. 3. The 4-way flat connector won't stay in its bracket. The rubber is too soft. When I plug anything into it it comes out of the bracket. I need to figure out what to do about that. I may also cut out a little hidden part of the Subaru Ascent bumper cover to give me better access to the 4-way flat plug. 4. I need to replace the tie-wraps with screws on the bracket which connects the 7-way round and 4-way flat plugs to the hitch. 5. I need to use silicone caulk (or something?) to seal up the place where I ran the 4-way flat wiring out of the car and to the hitch on the outside of the car. 6. At some point in the future, I need to somehow put the car up on a lift and re-run the "black hot wire" so that I feel confident that it will not get too hot and/or come loose and/or interfere with other things under the car. 7. I need to change out the butt connectors for the shrink wrap ones and use a real crimping tool (instead of Vice Grips) to lock the wires into the butt connectors. 855026

I have to say this was one experience I do not regret. I was able to find everything I need on etrailer.com that fit my specific vehicle. Additionally, I had no problems installing the draw tight hidden hitch, wiring, and cargo carry due to the easy to follow instructional videos and pdf files. If I had to do this all over again then I would make the exact same choices. I highly recommend the product and retailer. 849313

Perfect fit for a 2019 Subaru Ascent Premium. Install video was extremely helpful and easy to follow. I am not handy by any means but I was able to install this following along with the video in under 2 hours. I saved so much money getting the hitch from etrailer and doing the install myself. • Comparing Draw-Tite and Curt Trailer Hitches for 2019 Subaru Ascent Touring
The benefits of the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 76253 that fits your 2019 Subaru Ascent Touring are that it has a concealed crosstube and also that it has a 750 lb tongue weight, which is the highest capacity tongue weight for any hitch that fits your vehicle. That said, the tongue weight will not come into play when you are using your bike rack and it is unlikely to be a factor for a tent trailer. The Curt Trailer Hitch # C13400, which will also fit a Touring model of '19 Ascent, has...

I attached a picture of what it looks like installed as well as an install video for you to check out too. Your 2019 Subaru Ascent should have came with a 7-way installed at the rear of it if it came with the factory towing package. Since you are having a hitch installed currently and looking at wiring you most likely do not have the towing package and would need to install the correct wiring. You have to start with a 4-way for this like the # 118790 as this will be the base for the 7-way conversion needed to install and use the brake controller. • Does The Impact Structure/Bumper Beam Need To Be Removed To Install Hitch on 2019 Subaru Ascent
Yes, both the Draw-Tite hitch part # 76253 and EcoHitch part # 306-X7381 require removal of the impact structure. Since both the Draw-Tite and EcoHitch are concealed cross tube designs the impact structure must be removed to make room for the cross member of the hitch. Curt hitch part # C13400 for the 2019 Subaru Ascent does not require removal of the impact structure because it is installed below the bumper.
