Hi everyone. Steve here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look together at our towing kit with ball mount and trailer wiring for your Stealth Hitches hidden rack receiver. Now folks, this is gonna fit a 2017 through 2024 Mazda CX-5. With that being said, be sure to check our fit guide here at etrailer.com. On the homepage somewhere, it's gonna say My Vehicle or Vehicle Information.
Enter things like year, make, and model, those kind of things, and make sure you're getting the right parts the first time. Keep in mind, sometime these videos could be outdated and it could potentially fit newer years. And that being said, this complete kit will let you use your Stealth Hitch rack receiver sold separately for towing. Now this gives you a nice detachable ball mount. It's gonna snap up in place and lock in place to your hitch cross tube member, and you're gonna put it in place of the receiver attachment on that Stealth Hitch receiver.
Now this will eliminate the rattle and play being locked in place with this thick lug here and it has a nice elegant black powder coat finish. It's a 3/4 inch thick on the metal here. I just wanna back out so you can kind of see that kinda disappears in my black shirt, right And it's got a two inch ball here, rated up to 3,500 pounds of towing capacity and this is a one inch shank size on the diameter of that hole. Now you're gonna get the safety chain tie down anchor points, the locking nuts according to go with that. All the cable ties.
A couple of these pads that have self-adhesive on the back. You're gonna get, looks like either inline relay or fuse here or wire connector that plugs in. You're gonna get all the wire connectors here and a little magnet here to help fish some stuff up through maybe some holes in the frame or something of that nature. Check out the instructions for all that to be sure. You've got a double-sided piece of adhesive foam here as well.
That's gonna be as long, along with this one here on the back of this box. So this main harness is the main brains of the outfit, as I call it. This will plug into the wiring here. It'll match up. Just check the instructions again to see which color matches with what. And then as you can see, you've got that main plug here and all the wiring attached. When it's all said and done, it's got a nice wire loom casing. You've got a nice thick rubber grommet here, ending up with your four round or four pole connection here, and a nice dust cover here to go over the end of it to keep it all protected once the installation is complete. So again, this is going to connect directly to your battery, so that's gonna avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical systems. And again, all those connections and everything you need are included. So a very nice elegant look. Whenever you're not towing, you can take this back out and you won't see nothing there besides your wiring if you're looking hard enough. So very nice design for the Mazda CX-5. Folks, that's gonna wrap it up. I'm Steven, thanks for watching. And as always, stay safe while you're towing.
Not all the parts were in the box. It apparently requires additional kit that I was never made aware of before I bought it. Very unhappy.
Purchased this a year ago and am just as happy with it now as I was a year ago. Excellent quality product. The installation was challenging but clear and straight forward. etrailer did a great job with the how-to videos. I easily recommend this product to anyone.
I just finished installing the stealth hitch and the towing package (SH53GR) on my Telluride. For those who have been using the Stealth Hitch website, SH53GR is the same as Stealth Hitch part number SHT25067A, which is the right one if you aren't pre-wired for towing. Put another way, SH53GR is the right one if you didn't buy a tow package with your Telly.
The instructions (and video!) were absolutely spot on. I consider myself handy, but I don't really work on cars. I had zero trouble at any point of the installation with knowing what to do. This is really a compliment to eTrailer (who made the video) and Stealth Hitches, who I believe authored the instructions.
I did run into a few small problems while installing. First, two holes on the frame didn't quite line up by a tiny amount. Is this the hitch or my car? It's hard to know. This made it difficult to fit some bolts through. I ended up having to use a small 3 lb sledge to get them to go in. Additionally, I had some trouble getting the latch block to go into its bracket. Some heavy coercion with a rubber mallet finally got it in place. These problems weren't present in the video though, so your experience will probably be better.
My overall installation time wasn't 40 minutes, as the review suggested. It actually took me about 7 hours - about 5 for the rack receiver and 2 for the towing package. One thing made things go faster -- I bought some socket adapters for my impact driver. That probably saved me at least an hour. I probably lost an hour because I was missing a couple of sockets that I was sure I had and was trying to use a crescent wrench before I asked a neighbor.
As a side note, I'm 100% happy with the Stealth Hitch. My Telly looks unmodified and the Trailer Hitch is rock solid.
Delivered quickly with no damage.
