Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Installation - 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Speaker 1: Today, on this 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, you'll be having a look at and being shown how to install the Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver, part number 76016. Here's what the hitch looks like installed. Now, this hitch features a 900 pound gross tongue weight rating, which is the amount forcing down, and a 6,000 pound max gross trailer weight rating, which is the amount it can pull. It does support the use of weight distribution, and when we're using that on our trailer, our tongue weight rating increases to 1,000 pounds, and our trailer weight rating increases to 10,000 pounds. Now, you want to make sure that you consult with the owners' manual of your Silverado and not exceed what the vehicle is rated for.On the side of our hitch, you'll notice there's two holes. The largest one closest to the front of the vehicle, that's your industry standard five eighth of an inch diameter hitch pin hole to secure any of your hitch mounted accessories.

You can pick up a pin and clip on our website as part number PC3. Closer to the end of the receiver, you have your smaller hole here, and what that's for is for a J-pin stabilization device. That's a separate device, which you can get on our website, which takes away the shake, play, and rattle from what is inserted into your receiver. Anything from your bike rack to your ball mount to your cargo carrier .. this will take care of that.Welded on to the bottom of our receiver are rolled steel safety chain loops.

These are a fairly large opening, and so they should be easy for us to hook on most safety chain hooks without a problem from our trailer. Now, the collar and the fact that our hitch is mostly recessed behind our bumper here helps give us a very factory-like appearance on our vehicle. Now for a few measurements to better assist you in choosing any hitch-mounted accessory you may need, such as a ball mount, bike rack, or a cargo carrier. From the ground to the top of the two inch receiver opening . so you're looking at about 18 and a half inches. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the rearmost part of the back bumper, you're looking at about four inches. Now that we've gone over some features, we'll show you how to get it installed.

To begin your install, you'll need to remove your spare tire temporarily. For the purposes of video, we've already done that. Now, we're having a look at the driver's side of the frame on our vehicle. Right here, we'll find a 21 millimeter bolt and a 21 millimeter nut. These help hold in place the factory bumper hitch reinforcement bar.

We'll need to remove both these bolts and nut. The bolt goes into an existing weld nut in the frame. The nut has a 21 millimeter bolt head on the top that we'll hold in place with a wrench while we remove the nut. Then, we'll remove the bolt.Where the bolt was, and right in front of this cross, remember, we have another small hole, and then another small hole right next to that one. We'll be putting carriage bolts in with a block, so you'll stick the bolt through the block. This will keep it from rotating, and you'll drop it through the hole. The passenger side of our vehicle is the exact same way, so we'll repeat the same process. Now, for the weld nut in the frame, we won't be reusing the factory bolt. We'll be using a new M14 bolt that comes with our hitch, a split lock washer, and a flat washer. Now, with an extra set of hands, we'll raise our hitch into position over the exhaust. Place on a conical tooth washer onto our carriage bolt, with the teeth facing the hitch, and then thread on a nut. Now, with the hitch supported by our conical tooth washers and the nuts, we can reinstall the . or we can install the new 14 millimeter bolt into the frame weld nut. Now, we'll snug down our bolt that goes in the weld nut by hand a little bit with the 22 millimeter socket so we don't have to worry about cross-threading it. Once we have a few turns on it by hand, we can fully tighten it.Now, we'll fully tighten all of our hardware. For nuts on our carriage bolts, we use a three quarter inch socket. Okay. Now that all of our hardware is tightened down, we'll torque it to the manufacturer specifications found in the instructions. We can now reinstall our spare tire. It'll fit back up in place even with a full sized spare around the hitch without a problem. And that completes your look at and being shown how to install the Draw-Tite Max Frame trailer hitch receiver, part number 76016 on this 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

As always the folks at etrailer come through with flying colors. From informative customer service agents to easy to understand installation videos, timely delivery of merchandise, easy to understand instructions and so much more. 5 stars all the way for their products and most of all their people. 663350

Hitch looks REALLY solid. The box was freaking destroyed when it arrived though. No damage to the parts. The instructions were not very helpful or accurate. When removing bolts from your truck, you want to make sure you are taking out the right ones. I looked at the youtube video of a similar install. A few pics added would help that. Suggested install time is accurate if you have an impact driver. Otherwise it takes 2-3x as long IME. Definitely have a second set of hands - this thing is heavy. 421888

2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I want to thank etrailer and in particular Lori in customer service. I ordered a hitch and received it very quickly. Unfortunately the hitch had a manufacturing defect that was in no way etrailers fault. Called them and got Lori on the phone. She was great! I had a new replacement hitch in less than a week. Overall extremely good customer service and I am very pleased with my experience with etrailer and their employees. Thanks again Lori!! 485014

2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

It was about the easiest thing I have ever installed. Didn't need to lower the spare tire and it only took about 20 minutes start to finish. Had one person to help lift it up to help bolt it in to the frame. I purchased the trailer wiring plug too.. (It was perfect fit) Very well satisfied 491793

I've had this for a year now and there are absolutely no problems with any part of this product. I was worried the bolts may have loosened up over time due to normal vibrations, but everything is working as advertised. It fit perfectly right out of the box without having to drill or make "adjustments" to it. I buy all of my trailering accessories from from etrailer.com because their products are great and so are their prices! 503662

First I’d like to start by saying I ordered my hitch Thursday morning and received it the next day. Was beyond thrilled. Secondly this is the second hitch I’ve ordered from etrailer (bought another vehicle) and am over the moon happy about both of them. Definitely will be purchasing from again! 574258

Quick ship, installed it today alone. Took me about 2 hours. 7/8 ratchet and wrench to remove existing bolts on Silverado then used a wood box to support one end while I loosely attached the other. Don't tighten any bolts until all are threaded. Simple to install - install videos helped 655446

Be aware that you are likely buying scratch-and-dent goods. My hitch had gouges in the powder coat, deep enough to remove metal, under what is probably re-packaging. The side that was gouged didn’t still have the wrapping that the other side did. 640685

Comments
We do not sell scratch and dent items unless we identify them as such. Your hitch was likely damaged in shipping and repackaged into the box by the carrier, which happens occasionally. Ill have our Customer Service folks contact you.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 To Haul Boat Trailer
For your 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, I using the recommend Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 76016 because it has a clean look (see photo), sufficient capacity for you needs, and it offers a drill free/easy install which I have attached an install video on for you. For a trailer wiring harness, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 118384 which will plug into a connector under your bumper and you can then mount this...

The torque specs will be dependent on the trailer hitch itself not based on the vehicle. These torque specs should be outlined in the installation details for your specific hitch. For instance, on your 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500, if you have the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class IV - 2" # 76016 then the installation details show that you will tighten all 1/2 – 13 Grade 5 Fasteners with Torque Wrench to 75 ft-lb (102 N-m) and Tighten all M14 CL 10.9 Fasteners...

Since your 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 has a 7-1/2 inch lift, it is recommend to use an adjustable ball mount that will accommodate your vehicle's higher hitch point. To find the correct ball mount drop that you will need, a measurement will need to be taken. The attached article will demonstrate how to perform this measurement to find the correct drop you will need. Other than removing the lift on your vehicle, there are no products that will help level the trailer connection that can be installed...

  • Are Conical Tooth Washers Required for a Trailer Hitch On a 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500
Yes, you will need to use conical tooth washers on each side of the frame when installing a trailer hitch on certain vehicles but whether or not this is required for your exact vehicle will be listed in the installation instructions of the particular trailer hitch. The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 76016 for example which is a fit for a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will require six 1/2" conical tooth washers part # 01292-008, three on each side of the frame. • Does Capacity of Ball Mount Change if Used in Rise Position
The towing and tongue weight capacity of the Curt Ball Mount # C45338 does not change if you use it in the rise position; it has a tongue weight capacity of 1,000 lbs and towing capacity of 10,000 lbs no matter if you use it to get 8-1/4 inches of drop or 7 inches of rise. Keep in mind your capacity is limited to that of your truck and hitch receiver. For example, the Curt Trailer Hitch # C14006 for your 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500 also has a tongue weight capacity of 1,000 lbs and towing...

I understand not wanting to add an aftermarket hitch, when a bumper pull might do the job, but since those are so limited you really are best served by adding an aftermarket hitch like the Draw-Tite # 76016 .
