Roadmaster Anti-Sway Bar Installed

Benefits of an Anti-Sway System

The Roadmaster anti-sway bar does for side-to-side movement what a good pair of shocks does for up-and-down motion. You will notice a marked improvement in your vehicle's stability as the bar works to balance weight transfer and reduce body roll. The anti-sway bar acts as a link between your vehicle's frame and its rear axle, using the axle as a brace to more effectively balance the shifting weight of your vehicle as you maneuver it. Lubricated bushings allow just enough pivot and rotation to compensate for the pressure placed on one side of your vehicle when it goes into sudden maneuvers, hits crosswinds or encounters shifting weights.

Roadmaster Anti-Sway Polyurethane Bushings

Superior Construction

The Roadmaster anti-sway bar is made of 4140 chromoly, a chromium and molybdenum steel alloy. This type of steel is considerably harder and stronger than the standard 1020 steel that is typically used in anti-sway applications. In addition, the larger diameter of the bar increases its torsional roll stiffness. The result is a bar that is not only stronger than the competition, but also nearly 30 percent better at resisting sway. The polyurethane bushings and grommets used at the attachment points are durable yet flexible, ensuring that the system is neither so rigid nor so malleable that it becomes ineffective.

I recently purchased a 2011 Itasca Cambria 28 with only 10,500 miles. Our first trip made it clear that I needed to stiffen the chassis. Unfortunately Roadmaster Anti-sway bars are backordered, and though you should put those on first, I just installed the Steering Dampener. Easy installation though you need to be careful about seating the bushings. The videos are much better than the printed instructions. Already see a big difference in how much tighter the steering is. Can't wait for the bars to arrive. Disappointed to have to wait 4 weeks.

This product has performed exceptionally. We experienced extreme winds without significant lane-changing effects on Wyoming highways and very little side to side drift when passed by large trucks. I installed the front sway bar without too much effort but the rear bar was a bit more difficult to install so I had a local Mechanic do the work. I’m very pleased with my purchase.

Roadmaster

Product arrived quickly as usual with etrailer. The etrailer video was more handy than the accompanying instructions from Roadmaster. etrailer provided videos for both the early E450 and the later chassis installations. While essentially the same, there was a small difference of enlarging an existing hole on the early frame in my case a 2006 and having to measure to locate the hole on the later. It would be nice if Roadmaster included a parts diagram to help with assembly instead of small not clear pictures. I thought the parts package was short two half inch washers, I supplied them from my stock. The fittings on the Roadmaster bar are much heavier than the stock components. Installation is on a 2007 Coach House, motorhome. Took it for a test drive, big difference in handling.

Sway bars on my Thor Axis 24.1 made it handle better. We tow a 20 foot race car trailer. Very stable. Connecticut to Road America, Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin - 19 hours.

After a year seems like longer I am still delighted with the improvement the bars made on the handling of the motor home. If in doubt spend the money. I don’t think you will regret it.

Awesome product and easy to install. I am strongly recommending this product for all Ford E450 chassis. Will reduce body movement side to side and too reduce your “ White Knuckle Factor”.

Bottom line - Yes its worth it. Installed on 2018 THOR/Axis 25.5 Night and Day driving. Local shop in Maryland installed for me. (I had already packed my tools/jacks for moving south). Their mechanic was impressed with the size over the OEM. On a related note, got the rear set up as well and running Sumo Springs.

It increased the stability of the coach a good amount I am surprised that the manufacturer doesn't do the install of this product from the factory. I am a 70 + male I found it easy to install. the instructions were very good. thank you for very good product.

This installation made all the difference in the world. My Class C no longer requires continual course corrections while turning at speed due to body sway. My rig tracks truly through turns with much less driver input. The installer was skeptical that an aftermarket purchase would improve on original equipment, but the improvement in handling has been truly remarkable.

2018 Ford E-Series Cutaway

The ordering process was absent (that I could locate on the website) a contact telephone number so I was unable to ask any questions prior to ordering, A telephone number was provided after I placed the order on the ordering confirmation. The speed with which the order was activated, processed, shipped and received was more than satisfactory. I had ordered for a Ford E-350 cutaway/class C motorhome but when the order arrived the reference and instructions were identified as a sway bar for a Ford E-450. I tried to call etrailer to confirm the E-450 bar would fit my E-350 but after what I thought was an excessive hold time I hung up and called the manufacture. Roadmaster did confirm the E-450 would in fact fit the E-350. Both companies stated a "guaranteed fit" and a reasonable installation time based on, and considering relocation of the front mounting points (cannot use the original factory sway bar mounting points) and drilling new holes in the frame of the vehicle. If the new sway bar front legs were 3 1/2 inches longer then the factory mounting points could have been used and installation would have taken no more than an hour, and have made the "guaranteed to fit" a reality brag. And, in fairness there was small print reference to possible after market changes to a vehicle that might impact the new installation points. Well, after the purchase of a $100.00 metal cutting saw and over six and a half hours later, during which time I removed and relocated after market structure from my 2018 Thor 24F Class C motorhome, the "guaranteed fit" became reality. My ability to weld was also a benefit during installation. I guess the theory behind the "guaranteed fit" is if you modify your vehicle enough the sway bar will fit! Even though the installation videos did not cover any possible mounting issues or installation options, still they were very helpful in making sure my new sway bar was installed properly. After installation I noticed that the Ford V10 drive shaft does not run down the center of the vehicle which causes the bell housing to be off center. As a result of this position the sway bar/bell housing clearance on the passenger side right behind the rear axle in one spot is barely over a quarter inch. I called etrailer and was told, "I don't know about your clearance issue, but that is the correct sway bar for your vehicle". I guess that means I haven no problem to worry about or I have a time bomb back there while I am driving. Don't take it that the person I spoke with was not polite or trying to help me, he just didn't know or relieve my concerns. (Should he?) In summary, etrailer provided a very competitive price, handled my order quickly and kept me posted on shipping progress and to this point I believe provided me the correct part (as listed by Roadmaster) and provided a telephone number (after the purchase) that I could use to check on my order. All this adds up to four and a half stars in my book. But, what pulls my rating of etrailer lower is the lack of product measurements that would have permitted me to check for potential installation issues and a companion statement in bold print that any after market additions or modifications to the factory frame could require restructuring before the sway bar can be installed. If I had paid shop rate to have this bar installed my installation bill could have been over $600.00 or a shop may have refused the job because of liability concerns if they modify the motorhome frame structure, Ether way, this could have been more than a major disappointment. Since I have to share my feelings about the product installation with Roadmaster, I can't in fairness tag etrailer the total responsibility. I would like to rate the experience lower but I feel etrailer provided services that would be considered normal under most circumstances.

I worked with the E trailer staff for recommendations for my 2017 E450 motorhome. I was having Sway issues and wind issues with semi trucks inside wind. They recommended a front and rear sway bar, a reflex steering stabilizer shock and the sumo springs helpers for the rear axle. I installed all four items at the same time and all my issues were solved. The coach drives very stable and the Rear of the motorhome does not Sage either. They were great help!

Installed the RM-1139-147 Rear Sway Bar, RM-1139-176 Front Sway Bar and RM-RBK24-RSSC Reflex Steering Stabilizer for Class C Motorhomes. All three were easy after viewing the etrailer videos to install on a 2019 Ford E450 cutaway. Went test drive, on a windy day. Didn't feel like I had to fight the steering wheel to stay on course. Thank you.

Great products, etrailer was great to work with. I ordered Roadmaster front and rear anti sway bars and the Roadmaster Reflex steering stabilizer rm-rbk24-rssc for my 2017 Forester River RV. etrailer shipped the same day that I placed my order. I was able to install all three parts myself. Their YouTube videos were extremely helpful. It's amazing the difference in the driving and handling. 2016 Ford E-Series Cutaway

I ordered both the Front and Rear anti-sway bar upgrade kits. The install on my 2016 E450 was quite simple, and accomplished easily in my driveway. The kit for the front was a simple remove and replace the OEM bar. The rear kit required drilling two holes to accomodate new mounting points. Other than that, it was also simply a matter of removing a few bolts, and replacing the factory bar. Some minor nits associated with the kits. The washers included in the kit for the rear didn't fit the bolts, also included in the kit. And, the instructions for the front kit didn't include torque specs for the bolts. A quick trip to the local hardware store, and a call to Roadmaster tech support solved the respective problems. Oddly, the Roadmaster tech guy read me THEIR instruction over the phone, and they DID include the necessary specs. I've intalled these kits on two different motor homes now. They work GREAT, and I highly recommend them if you're towing and it feels like the vehicle has a bit more roll than you like. HOWEVER, I would note that the difficulty of installation can vary widely. If you're planning to install yourself, I highly recommend downloading the instructions in advance, and crawling under your vehicle to check on accessibility. For the E450 kit, you'll have to be able to get under there with a drill, and not drill through any cables/lines that may run along the frame rails. You'll also have to be able to get a (typically somewhat large) torque wrench up in there. My experience suggests this can be nearly impossible on some vehicles without access to a grease pit or lift. Good luck!

Put the Roadmaster Front Anti-Sway Bar (RM-1139-176) and Rear Anti-Sway Bar (RM-1139-147) on my 2018 Class C motorhome and noticed 1000% improvement in the driving and handling. Drove it from Texas to California and back. It handled like a sports car compared to before. My Son and I did the work ourselves. The instructions that came with the parts were helpful and easy to follow. I suggest watching the installation videos before starting the install.

Dodge Journey

Two reviews - 1 for the product. 1 for etrailer. Product: Prior to purchasing this rear sway bar, the corresponding front sway bar, and the reflex steering stabilizer, driving our Thor FE30 was frequently a white knuckle experience. Our journey has frequently taken us on I-40 and I-10. Both roads are subject to high cross winds. Additionally, there is heavy semi-truck traffic on these Interstates. Our RV was difficult to control in both of these situations. Frequently we were pushed outside of our lane. The installation was super easy on all of the components thanks to the etrailer videos. I was concerned about my drill being able to fit into the tight space to drill the holes necessary for the rear sway bar. I bought stubby drill bits and that worked perfectly. I did not even need to lift the RV off the ground for any of the components. So far I have taken the RV on I35 twice. It was quite windy both times. It was like driving a completely different RV. No wandering out of the lane. The steering felt much more in control. etrailer: This is the second purchase that I have made from etrailer. Both experiences have been fantastic. Both times I contacted eTrailer to make sure that I was getting the correct parts and all of the necessary components. Christina J helped me with the suspension and did a great job. The product reviews and installation videos are fantastic. I will continue to be an etrailer customer/fan.

Really firmed up the suspension. Steering is definitely improved and 18 wheelers no longer blow me off the road when they pass. The combination of the thicker anti-sway bars and the steering stabilizer provided a 1000% improvement in the travel experience for our motorhome.

2017 Ford E-Series Cutaway

Road master RM-1139-176 and road master RM-1139-147 front and rear sway bars for 2017 Ford econoline 450 - on 26xd Jayco Redhawk. Bought this Class C motorhome brand new. When I test drove it I knew I would have to replace the factory bars. They were way undersized. It was actually dangerous to drive and when we hooked up our flat tow it was really bad. When I installed the road master sway bars front and back it was really unbelievable at the difference it made. It actually made driving this class c enjoyable. Very stable. The bad sway is gone. Pulling my tow is now safe to do. These bars are expensive but I felt if it would help my swaying problem it would be worth it. My dealings with etrailer has been very positive and the videos they produce for installation is spot on. I highly recommend these sway bars. Also it took me working alone in my driveway about 3 hours to install the front and back bars.

Thor

Intalled rear anti-sway bar on 2016 E-450 Thor Class C Outlaw. The bar arrive promptly with great service from etrailer. There was a huge physical difference in the new bar compare to the old factory one. I installed new bar by myself in the driveway. It took several hours to install due to needing assistance holding and lining it up. Also there was a struggle getting underneath the RV. Measuring and drilling the 1/2 holes in the frame took awhile. Be careful of brake lines and electrical on drivers side while drilling. Took vehicle on 10 mile ride did feel differance in handling.

  • Upgraded Anti-Sway Bars for a 2020 Entegra Class C Motorhome
The most worthwhile upgrade you can make to a motorhome's suspension is an upgraded rear anti-sway bar, the Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar part # RM-1139-147. The rear anti-sway bar is going to do a great job of increasing stability like helping to keep the motorhome on the road when trucks pass by or when making turns. Aftermarket sway bars and stabilizers do make a difference in the handling of most motorhomes since they are usually far superior to the OEM-grade components. Class C coaches like your 2019 Entegra Odyssey which is built on a Ford E-450 chassis will drive better with aftermarket products that will tighten up the steering and reduce the sway from passing trucks and wind gusts. After that you can further improve the ride by adding a front anti-sway bar and steering stabilizer; the combination of these three parts will dramatically increase the handling and comfort of your Thor Axis, allowing you to enjoy your time on the road instead of exhaustingly attempting to keep your rig centered at all times. The correct fit for your 2018...

You would use # RM-RBK24-RSSC and your motorhome would handle MUCH better overall and in the conditions you mentioned as well.

  • Recommended Rear Anti-Sway Bar for 2014 Thor Axis RV
Based on my research, your 2014 Thor Axis 24.1 RV is built on the Ford E-450 chassis with the V10 engine. I do recommend confirming this with your paperwork. If this is correct, I recommend the Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar # RM-1139-147. This is confirmed to fit this chassis and it will do a great job of minimizing sway and driver fatigue by improving stability and drivability of the RV. It will mount to the rear axle and frame with the included hardware. For a front sway bar you can...

For a 2020 Class C motorhome on a Ford E450 van cutaway chassis, a steering stabilizer, rear anti-sway bar and a SumoSprings rear suspension helper will work wonders to improve the suspension of your motorhome. • Why are RVs So Prone to Swaying and Why Don't Chassis Manufacturers have a Solution
The issue with RV chassis's is that the manufacturers (like Ford) make them but they don't know where the weight of the RV is going to be and since every RV is made a little bit different it's hard for them to foresee exactly how every RV will react on the highway. Best option though is to go with a heavier duty rear sway bar. Which for that you'd want the Roadmaster kit part # RM-1139-147 which is a confirmed fit for your 2015 Jayco Redhawk on an E-450 chassis.

Your 2018 Thor Hurricane 29M is built on a Ford F53 Chassis and has a GVWR of 18,000 lbs. For this motorhome I recommend starting with the Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar for Motorhomes # RM-1139-146 because the rear sway bar has the most impact on the overall driving of the vehicle. You do not need to use a hoist to install the bar, but you will be removing a shock, so it will be much easier if you have a free moving axle, but it is not an absolute requirement. It is not a difficult installation,...
