Installed with aid of the video. Hitch fit perfectly. My 19 inch spare tire fits like it should with no interference from the hitch. Paint was peeling on one of the arms that attach to the frame, I will go back and touch it up later. My highlander is a 2009 sport, original owner. I am 75 years old, so if I can install, you can too.

2019 Toyota Highlander

I bought this to put on my 2008 Toyota Highlander Sport. It's a very nice, well built hitch. It fit perfectly, even with my full size, 19 inch, spare tire. The only complaint I had about it was the packaging. The box arrived via the brown truck and was torn at both ends by the edges of the hitch, which caused the hitch to have a few nicks and scratches to the paint. The delivery driver even apologized for it. I contacted etrailer.com via email. Their customer service was great, responding in just a few hours. We worked out a solution. This hitch is very well made. It's welded together and the bolt holes lined up perfectly with my Highlander's. It's heavy and awkward, so I do recommend two people to put it on. Installation was easy...my 13 year old nephew helped me. You could probably put it on by yourself, but two people make it easier as you have to lift it over the exhaust pipe. The video tutorial was definitely a plus! One thing I had to do that the video didn't show was to remove the cover on the tip of the exhaust pipe. I know not all models have one, but the sport models do. It's easy to remove by loosening the bolted on clamp. I didn't have to lift the rear of the Highlander up, either. There is plenty of room to get underneath the vehicle to work and do this (I'm a big guy). The hitch also has a plate welded onto it near the receiver so you can attach a mounting bracket for the wire harness if you want to run it to the outside of your vehicle. I used the mounting bracket (Item 18144) here: . It comes with locking screws and fits perfectly. Overall, this is a solid hitch that is priced well and looks great! I had thought about buying the OEM from Toyota, but I'm glad I didn't. This one is just as good (if not better) at only a quarter of the cost and I didn't have to pay anyone to install it. I will definitely be doing more business with etrailer.com! Great prices and customer service you can't beat! P.S. Sorry, but it was raining a little when I took the pics.

Packaging problems meant it got scratched and dinged up along the way. Mounting hardware was lost, so they had to send me a replacement. The dings don't bother me too much but they do need to figure out / improve shipping methods.

I was able to install this myself on my 2010 Highlander without issue. Pro tip if you're doing this on your own, lower your spare tire to the ground (don't need to disconnect) and rest the receiver on top of the tire. You'll only need to push it up slightly to set the bolts in.

Comments
I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you. I recommend touching up the affected areas with a rust resistant paint which you will then have on hand for regular hitch maintenance.

2010 Toyota Highlander

Bought the Draw-Tite trailer hits together with the Swagman XTC4 4-bike rack. Bought based on reviews on e-trailer and other sites that this is a sturdy and good-working combination for carrying 4 bikes.
* Delivery: Fast (<5 days)
* Packaging: Package had holes, which is not unusual as the box with the hitch has a lot of empty spaces. Others had same issue, but nothing to worry about. The hitch cannot really break easily and the hardware is safely stored in the 2inch receiver.
* Installation: Very nice video instructions on etrailer. Installation really can use two people, but it's fairly easy with two people. Had some problems with one of the nine screws to bite although I did a try run before mounting the hitch. Worked after some minutes of wiggling the hitch so that the screw got the correct angle to bite.
* Usage: Installed the day of delivery and used it the next day. It's the first time I used a trailer hitch and for sure the first time I used to carry 4 bikes. Stopped looking in the rear-view mirror after 1 minutes seeing that it's barely moving at all. So with a limited use so far I can confirm other's reviews of this combination and I think it works great. Recommended.

2009 Toyota Highlander

Research has brought me to etrailer.com to find the best hitch for my vehicle. I own a 2009 toyota highlander which is the hybrid limited model. I choose this hitch particularly because of the added tongue weight. 750 or 500 lbs... you decide which is better. This hitch has extra mounting tabs, so it doesn't just mount to the bottom of the frame but also the sides of the frame. It took 2 days to receive and less time to install. 45 minutes with 2 people. Do note that if you
have mud guards than they must come off. I didn't remove the tail pipe to install, just man handled the hitch over it. Also, there is a tab on the back side of the facia in front of the exaust tip that has to go under the hitch. The bolts included with the hitch were a different size than what the manual says. They aren't 17mmm, they are 16mm. Overall the install went well so don't be intimidated by it if your not mechanicly inclinded. The wiring was really easy to install and as you can see in the picture I ran it through a hole in the body. I cut a small slit in the grommet and gently pushed the small end through so that any water won't come through. Worked like a charm. This was an aawesome experience!

THE HITCH IS MUCH MORE ROBUST THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE. MY WIFE AND I PLAN TO INSTALL IT TOMORROW. BEING 69YRS. OLD WILL MAKE IT A BIT MORE DIFFICULT, BUT MY WIFE ASSURES ME SHE CAN HANDLE HER END. SO FAR EVERYTHING SEEMS GOOD. ALL THE BOLTS AND WASHERS ARE THERE AND EVERYTHING IN THE WIRING HARNESS APPEARS TO BE THERE. I'LL LET YOU KNOW HOW IT GOES, WITH PHOTO'S. THANKS.

Toyota Highlander

First one arrived bent. etrailer shipped a replacement right away. Finish was dinged up in a few places, and they credited me the cost of a can of paint to touch it up. That could have been prevented if they had used a little more cardboard to protect the brackets and corners.

I picked this one because it has more points of attachment than the other receivers, and it is the only one for my Highlander that is rated for use with a weight distribution hitch. I've pulled a 3,000 lb travel trailer several thousand miles and it has performed well.

The only real complaint I have is that the torque spec on the bolts (42 lb-ft) seems really low for something that is subjected to so much force. I've had to re-torque them a few times. The third time I rounded up to 50 lb-ft, and so far they haven't loosened up again.

Hitch and wiring package were great! Video was crucial to getting this fairly difficult job done successfully. Arrived complete.

A couple bolt holes were off just a tiny bit but nudging with a one ton jack worked. 2010 Toyota Highlander.

by:

The Trailer Hitch came damaged in that the black covering on the square connector was partially torn off. I had given the hitch to my gas station who installed it but unfortunately did not inspect it before giving it for installation. They showed the damage after they had installed it. I guess I will have to live with it but not happy that it was damaged in transit.

The products were as advertised, shipped and delivered promptly, and the directions were accurate and made the job easy to install. Etrailer.com is my go-to site for any hitch and trailer products!

2011 Toyota Highlander

It works on our 2011 Toyota Highlander. A mechanic installed it. It doesn't look out of place. We use it to carry bicycles, and it does that well.

by:

I was a little disappointed when my hitch kit arrived and it had some scratches from shipping. There was definitely no structural damage, just surface scratches. I called etrailer and was advised to purchase a can of Rust-Oleum and touch up the spots on my own. (I was even offered reimbursement for the estimated cost of the Rust-Oleum.) My touch-ups worked like a charm, and a year later, I'm very happy with the hitch kit.

Great product and truly excellent customer service. I highly recommend buying from etrailer.com.

by:

There are a three things that really stood out for me. First, the installation instructions were easy to follow and involved little "trial and error". Although having three people guide the hitch into place for initial attachment is recommended. The wiring harness was easy-peasy! Second, I use this hitch mostly for pulling light loads around town, but, the week after installation I pulled a 12' tandem-wheel cargo trailer full of furniture over 800 miles through three mountain passes without a problem. Third, and more service related, the self-help tips on etrailer's website are invaluable.

by:

Packing was not good cardboard slip of paper & plastic. Hitch had paint scratched off on corners. Fit was fine after tightening underside bolts finally.

We do recommend using a Rust-Oleum paint to cover any scratches to prevent rust.

2013 Toyota Highlander

Finally, the hitch mount is installed on my 2013 Toyota Highlander, you would need 10mm, 14mm, and 16mm, and 6" socket extender. In the manual, it said you need, 10mm, 12mm, and 14mm. Installation was easy, only 9 bolts, two persons makes job easier but i did the installation by myself. It took one hour or less. The hitch fits my vehicle steel frame bolts patterns perfectly so no issue with the install.

I purchased the Draw-Tite Max-E Loader Trailer Hitch Receiver a year ago and have gotten great service. It fit perfectly on my vehicle and is super simple to use. I really like the locking assembly for added security when using the bike rack that I also purchased from etrailer. Overall, the hitch and rack are extremely sturdy and reliable.

Etrailer has everything one needs for most people to safely start towing by offering great products (hitches, wiring, draw bars, etc) as well as the information via document, video, and/or advisors to get the job done. I have purchased 2 trailer hitch receivers and wiring harnesses for my vehicles over the past few years and I have been very satisfied and I have saved money. I would definitely use etrailer again if I needed get towing with a different vehicle.

Our trailer hitch has worked out well. We do not do really heavy duty towing with it but I very much appreciate being to find a product that I can manage to fit my needs and also allows me to manage to save some money.

Had no trouble installing the hitch or wiring harness. The video helps a lot. Instead of having the lights connector lay in a tray I chose to use the plugged hole that was below the side tray and have the cable mounted outside the vehicle.

2012 Toyota Highlander

I got my bumper mounted (Draw-Tite) and I'm pleased with it. The receiver sticks out further past the bumper than I like but considering how it barely clears the spare tire underneath there's not much that can be done to change that. At most it could be shortened about an inch using up all the clearances but it would still stick out some. I had to modify (cut some plastic) on the driver side under body panel piece to clear the receiver frame mount. Basically the existing access hole in the plastic panel for the shipping tie down bracket just needed to be lengthened to the front of the vehicle.

The wiring harness kit instruction for the 2012 Highlander could use some revision. It was only after the under dash harness is installed that it says to install a fuse in the fuse holder - so another crawl up under the dash working in tight area to do that. Would have been a lot easier to install the fuse as the first step. Also, after removing all the panels in the rear quarter area to plug in the new harness and plug extension set, it says curl up the wire out of the way when not in use? Instead there is a plastic body plug down in the well area that a slot can be cut in and the plug pushed through it and then the plug run underneath to the receiver hitch and mounted in the bracket on the hitch that I also purchased.

All in all the hitch fit very well and bolting it up was not problem once it was maneuvered up and over the exhaust pipe (I removed the exhaust tip for more clearance). Only minor complaint I have is that some scrap cardboard could have been used to pad the hitch before the shrink wrap was applied to better protect the metal edges/corners/ of the frame for shipping. I had a lot of paint touch up to do on paint edges and corners with some Rustoleum. Or better yet Draw-Tite could powder coat the assembly which would be more durable.

The issue with the Draw Tite hitch part # 75726 not lining up with the holes on the vehicle like your 2010 Toyota Highlander is actually due to the hitch getting bent in shipping and not a design flaw. Unfortunately hitches are somewhat heavy and awkward to handle so shippers don't always handle them with enough care and the brackets can get bent and cause this issue. The hitch can be bent back and as long as there isn't creases or flaking paint you wouldn't have any problems.
