Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver Installation - 2010 Kia Sportage

Today on our 2010 Kia Sportage, we're going to take a look at and show you how to install the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Custom Fit Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver, offering the 2" x 2" receiver tube opening. It's part number is 75561. Here's what our hitch is going to look like installed on the Sportage. The thing I like about it is that crosstube is going to remain mainly hidden as it comes across, so all we're really adding to the rear of the vehicle is going to be the 2" x 2" receiver tube opening. You can see our round steel stock safety chain connection points there, nice and open, and the reinforcement collar. I like it. It's got that rounded look to it, so overall, pretty nice looking hitch on the rear of the vehicle. This is a Class III hitch.

That makes it extremely versatile. When it comes time to secure your items, you'll notice there are two holes on the hitch. We always want to use the one located closest to the front of the vehicle. It's going to be larger. It's 5/8" in diameter.

You want to be sure to choose Class III accessories to hold whatever items in you might be using. You'll notice there's going to be plenty of around there whether you're using just a pin and clip, maybe a locking hitch pin or even anti-rattle device. Now, one device available is the J-pin stabilization system. That's the only time you're going to use that rear-most hole. As far as weight ratings on our hitch go, we've got a 350-pound tongue weight rating. That's the maximum downward force we can put here at our receiver tube opening.

It gives us a 3,500-pound gross trailer weight rating. That's going to be the total weight of our trailer and then anything that we got load on top of it. Of course, we do want to look into the owner's manual on this Sportage. We want to see what its tow rating is, and we'll us whichever of those numbers are the lowest. Now, one of the first steps in our installation process is going to be to lower the exhaust down, so we can get the hitch up into place. Before we do that, we're going to support it with a strap here.

It's just going to help to keep us from putting unnecessary pressure on the exhaust hangers up front there. We'll pull that up like that. That'll offer some support. We'll remove the hangers. See we've got one here on the passenger side, and there's going to be two on the driver side. This one here and this one here. Now, you can make it a little bit easier on yourself if you'll use some spray lubricant. Tends to help those slide off a little bit better. Then, take a big screwdriver or pry bar. Pull out, they're going to slide off of those studs. Now, we'll just relax our strap a little bit here. That's going to allow that come down nicely. It should give us plenty of room to work. Next thing to take off is going to be our tow hook here. It's held in place with four bolts. You can see one here, two, three and four kind of hidden there behind the bracket. To remove these, we'll use a 14mm socket. We'll get all four of them taken out. Once those four are out, we've got one more. It's going to be the same size, but it's located on the side of the frame rail here. All right. Now we can return that to our customer. We won't be putting it back into position. Now, on the passenger side we're going to return the two forward bolts on the bottom and the one up on the top here. We're not going to be using the holes. This is just going to plug them up so moisture and stuff won't get in. We're also going to remove the one additional bolt all the way at the back side here, just like that. Now, on the driver side we're going to need to take out the two bolts on the back side of the frame rail. The one located to the side of the one there in front, we want to be sure we get that cleaned out. We want our threads to be able to start in there without any issues. See that bolt just won't start, so if that bolt's not going to start, neither is our hardware bolt. To clean that out, we use a nylon tube brush, part number 814092, and a little bit of spray lubricant. Now, you'll see our bolt is going to thread in there fine for us, so ready to get our hitch raised into position. We'll want to use the provided hardware. You'll place a conical tooth washer on the bolt. You'll see those teeth. You want those to face up toward our hitch and we'll get it raised in position here. Just need to align the weld nuts with our hitch and get them threaded in. Once we have four or five good turns on one side, we'll just let our hitch rest there while we get our other side started. Now, you'll just want to take a quick look, make sure we've got our hitch centered with the vehicle here, and we'll get all those snugged down. Once we have those snugged, you want to look at your instructions. There, you're going to find your torque specifications. Go through and torque all four bolts down appropriately. Now, we can get our exhaust put back up. A little bit of spray lubricant's going to help you out again here. We'll be able to take down our strap and our hitch will be ready for use. That's going to complete our installation of the Draw-Tite Custom Fit Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number is 75561, on our 2010 Kia Sportage.

By adding this Hitch Receiver to a used vehicle we just acquired, it will allow us to transport our bikes on the same rack we use on our other vehicles that already have a Hitch Receiver. It was surprisingly easy to self install. Thanks for the exceptional customer service. 594962

I looked at local sellers of receiver hitches and didn't find any for my Kia Sportage. I am glad I didn't, because when I searched the internet and found Etrailer, I found an exact match for my vehicle. Also very important, I would not have known how to lower the muffler system to get a hitch in place! I really appreciate the great step by step video that showed me how to install the receiver. I had it completely installed the afternoon I received it, working in my driveway. Thanks for making it easy for an 82 year old guy! 416614

My trailer hitch and parts needed came to the house quickly. Very Heavy duty. Assembly went smooth with instructions for my 2006 Kia Sportage. The trailer light harness is spot on, I found one of etrailer's videos on installation for my vehicle. I will be pulling my cargo and small camp trailer very soon. 401858

Jennifer, your help in expediting shipment is very much appreciated and the hitch arrived on time. Thanks! One major problem. The bolts on the Kia were not long enough and the mechanic had to purchase longer bolts in order to install the hitch. Would be a small cost to your company but a major time lost for the mechanic. Thought you should know this. 140613

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch

  • Which Trailer Hitch is Recommended for a 2007 Kia Sportage Towing Canoes and Sailboats
When the choice is available, I always recommend the class III hitch with the 2" by 2" opening. This will give the greatest flexibility and largest selection of accessories. The Draw-Tite Class III trailer hitch, part # 75561, would be the ideal choice for your vehicle. It offers a 3500 pound towing and and a 350 pound tongue weight capacity. This hitch would not require the cutting of any fascia, would require no drilling, and mounts to already existing weldnuts in your vehicle's frame.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2007 Hyundai Tucson
I do have a solution for you, however the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24757 referenced in your question is designed for certain model years of the Hyundai Sonata and is not compatible with your 2007 Hyundai Tucson. For your Hyundai Tucson, I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Receiver Hitch # 75561. This is custom-fit for your vehicle and will provide a nice 2 inch receiver opening and a 3,500 pound towing weight capacity. No drilling will be required during...

  • Best Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2018 Honda CR-V
The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 76128 is indeed a confirmed fit for your 2018 Honda CR-V and is the one I recommend for you because it installs using pre drilled holes in the frame rails. The process to do so is also fairly simple as you can see from the attached install video on a tan CR-V. For a trailer wiring harness, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118741 because it offers a completely plug and play installation which you can also see from the...

  • Comparing the Trailer Wiring Harnesses for a 2010 Kia Sportage V6
The best trailer wiring harness for a 2010 Kia Sportage is the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118401 because it has a fully epoxied converter box which not only works to keep out water but also works to help hold the wires on the circuit board which is the most common failure point for a trailer wiring harness. The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C55529 also has an epoxied converter box but not to the same level as the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness. I would concur...

  • Can a Weight Distribution System be Used on a 2009 Kia Sportage
All of the trailer hitch receivers that we carry for your 2009 Kia Sportage, like the # 75561, cannot be used with a weight distribution system. If you have a different hitch than one we carry you'll need to check its specs to know for sure. To reduce trailer sway you are able to use a Sway Control Kit # 83660. It installs on the trailer tongue and can be removed easily by releasing two clips. It will need to be removed whenever you're backing up with the trailer. I've linked an...

  • 4 Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2009 Kia Sportage
To carry 4 bikes at the rear of your 2009 Kia Sportage your best option would be to use a receiver hitch and a hitch mounted bike rack. One of our most popular 4 bike racks is the Thule Hitching Post, # TH934XTR, which has anti-sway cradles to prevent damage to your bikes or the back of the vehicle and can be folded down away from the rear of the vehicle for access when out on a ride. If you don't have a receiver hitch, the hitch I recommend for your vehicle is the Draw-Tite Class...

  • Higher Capacity Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2010 Kia Sportage
For your 2010 Kia Sportage the highest towing capacity available is the # 75561 which has a 350 lb tongue weight capacity and a 3,500 lb total trailer weight. Not every vehicle has high capacity hitches available. For lighter duty vehicles there are lighter duty hitches made. It wouldn't really make much sense to put a heavy duty hitch on a vehicle that isn't rated for the same capacities as the hitch. Since you have a 6 cylinder model you would want the part # 118401 for trailer wiring. If...

The available trailer hitches for the 2003 Subaru Forester will only fit on the 1998-2008 Subaru Forester. This hitch will not be compatible with any other model or year vehicle. For your 2008 Kia Sportage, I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Receiver Hitch # 75561. This hitch is confirmed to fit and custom-designed for this vehicle. No drilling will be required during installation, as it will use existing holes in the vehicle frame for attachment. This Class III hitch will...
