Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2018 Nissan Frontier - Draw-Tite

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Nissan Frontier, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Draw-Tite Class III Custom Fit Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 75282. So here's what our hitch is going to look like once we have it on our truck. Now that cross-tube is going to sit just below our bumper. We're going to be able to see about half of it. But the main thing we're really going to see is that receiver tube sticking out towards the back. And since it is a Class III hitch, it's going to give us that two inch by two inch receiver tube opening.

And it's got that nice reinforced power, not only giving it added strength, but just an overall clean look. We're going to mount all of our accessories in this forward hole towards the front of our cab, and it's going to accept a standard 5/8" Pin & Clip. They're not included, but you can pick one up on our website. Now the rear hole towards the back of the receiver here, that's going to be for the J-Pin Stabilization Device. It's going to attack as an anti-rattle for all the accessories that don't have one built in. Now the way it's going to do that, it's going to go into the standard 5/8" Pin & Clip hole. And then that secondary pin is going to come in, putting pressure on our accessory.

And we're going to attach the nut. And it is a locking device, so we're going to keep our accessory nice and secure, and keep it from rattling when we're driving down the road. Now it is sold separately, but you can pick that up on our website as well. Now the safety chain connection points are going to be a plate style, welded on either side of our receiver tube. And we're going to have plenty of room to get most size hooks on or off. Just keep in mind, since it is a plate style, if you are using smaller hooks, you may have a little bit of trouble getting them on.

But them being offset from the pin hole is nice, because we're not going to have to worry about those hooks interfering with a locking device. Our hitch is going to feature a 750 pound tongue weight, along with a 5,000 pound gross trailer weight rating. Now it is designed to work with weight distribution systems, as well. And that's gonna bump up the tongue weight to 800 pounds, and the gross trailer weight rating up to 8,000 pounds. With all that in mind, I do recommend that you double-check your vehicle's owner's manual, and you don't ever exceed the manufacturer's recommended weight.I'd like to give you a few measurements that are going to help you when deciding for accessories for your new hitch, such as a ball mount, a bike rack, or even a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper, it's going to be right about four and a half inches.

And from the ground to the inside top of the receiver tube opening, that's going to be right about 18 and one quarter inches. And now that we've seen what our hitch looks like, and gone over some of the features, let's show you how to get it installed. To begin our installation, you're going to want to come to the very back of your bumper, and then come underneath. And on each side, we're going to need to identify the mounting location for our hitch. Now we should have three factory weld nuts in the end of the frame, it goes right behind the leaf spring here. And what we're going to be using to attach our hitch is we're going to take one of the bolts included in our kit, followed by a split lock washer, and then followed by a flat washer. And that's going to go through the hitch and thread into the weld nuts in the frame. Now we're going to have three mounting locations per side. Now the next thing is we're going to lift our hitch into place. We're going to line up the holes in our hitch with the factory weld nuts. Then we're going to loosely install one bolt per side, just so the hitch can support itself. Now once the hitch is supported, you can go ahead and put the rest of your hardware in, hand tight. You just want to make sure that it's not going to fall down. And we'll get the rest of our hardware in place.I'm going to come back with a 19 millimeter socket, and I'm going to snug up all of my hardware. We'll repeat that for the other side, as well. I'm going to come back to that same 19 millimeter socket with a torque wrench, and I'm going to torque all my hardware down to the specified amount in the instructions. And we'll repeat that for all of our remaining hardware. And that'll finish up our look at the Draw-Tite Class III Custom Fit Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 75282 on our 2018 Nissan Frontier.

Guys AWESOME!!! I recently ordered a hitch for my 2012 Nissan truck. The product arrived and was installed in 10 minutes. etrailer has THE BEST customer service I have ever delt with. I ordered a bike rack from Rackwarehouse and got a call from them indicating it was out of stock. So, I called etrailer and spoke with Bridgett about several styles of bike racks. She offered her opinion and assisted me with my purchase. She was very knowledgable about the products, and so upbeat...this is an awesome company. 49870

Received Hitch for 2017 Nissan Frontier in two days, I am 67 & have COPD took me 45 minutes to install hitch using two jack stands & a floor jack. Took me 45 minutes to install wiring kit most of that was removing trim in cab to get to wiring. Local trailer store wanted $250 for hitch & installation, I bought hitch for [great price] from Etrailer, wiring kit was [low price] from etrailer did not price it locally. etrailer always sells quality products at a good price and ships promptly. Installation went pretty smoothly except a couple of the bolts were tough to get started. At first I thought the holes that line up with the holes in the truck's frame were'nt drilled correctly. But I quickly realized that the assemblers at the Nissan plant did not weld the nuts on the frame centered in the frame holes (see attached photos). I called etrailer and the tech I spoke with said it was ok to relieve the opening in the hitch flange to accommodate the bolts. I used an old drill bit and only had to remove about 1/16" of material on two of the openings and the bolts went right in. The unit seems made to last. Ordering was easy and I received the item in 4 days (free shipping). Haven't pulled the boat with it yet. When I do I will follow up this review. Very satisfied so far. 428598

I received the hitch, wiring harness, and accessories for my 2008 Nissan Frontier 4 days after the order was submitted, shipped to Alberta, Canada. It took me less than two hours to install the complete system by myself with the bulk of the time spent cleaning the receiving holes in the truck frame. Tested the signals on our trailer and everything worked first time, no problem, and the instruction videos were easy to follow and very helpful. Very reasonably priced too. 550720

Purchased this for my Nissan Frontier. After watching the videos I determined I could install it by myself. Secured one end with a rope then raised other end and loosely inserted a bolt then repeated with the roped end. Five holes lined up but one was off slightly. Without removing the hitch, I used a long 2x4 and scissor jack to slightly spread the mounting brackets until the sixth hole lined up. I liked the plate where a mounting bracket for the 4-way connector can be attached. A well-built hitch. Seem to be fewer comments about holes not lining up than with other brands. If all holes had lined up I would have given 5 stars. Nothing about the box indicated hitch had been damaged in transit. 559244

The hitch has held up nicely after the harsh winter we have had (meaning the coating looks brand new still NO RUST). I use it for small trailers and my bike rack which will stay in until it gets to cold to ride again. The shipping was fast and all the parts my son and I installed took around an hour. That was the hitch, back light harness and the trailer brake controller! I have recommended this company to others so they can get their parts here in one basket, as well as having everything they'd need for support to do the install themselves to save a ton of money! I called around. The two places told me $350 to $450 to install!! Look at the videos on this site and then make the call to do the install yourself or get a shop to do it for you. 499972

Read most of he reviews prior to purchase. The only concern I had was the frame holes not lining up. Sure enough, one of the hitch angle brackets was bent...... how does that happen ? The box wasn’t damaged so it came from the mfg that way. Anyway , we showed it some love and bent it back to where it lined up to the frame holes on both sides. Zip, zip done. Guess I wonder if the metal bends so easy, and bent back into shape how is it going to hold up while towing pressure is applied. Purchased the harness too. Watched the install video...... very easy. 483751

Comments

Because a hitchs mounting brackets are made from mild steel, the mounting brackets may flex during shipping. This causes the on-center bolt hole spacing to change, meaning it may appear that the hitchs bolt holes will not line up with the weld nuts on your vehicle frame. If the entire hitch was rigid steel, there would be a greater chance of the hitch being damaged and experiencing stress cracks. Such cracks could cause the hitch to malfunction. The mounting brackets need to be able to flex with the vehicle frame as the vehicle travels over the road and hits bumps or potholes. The hitch also needs to be able to withstand changes in temperature without being damaged.

Hitch is great, but the bolt holes were 3/4"" too close at the back hole, and 3/8 inch too close at the front hole, so one side wouldn't bolt in. Had to bend in the vise to make it fit. It is definitely the correct hitch, but someone at DrawTite didn't do their final measurements, and QC failed on their end. Either way, I got it installed. The wiring kit and relay kit were a dead on exact fit. No issues there. 571511

The mounting flanges on a trailer hitch are designed for straight line strength, not necessarily lateral strength. The flanges are actually designed to have some give in them, so that if they get flexed during shipping, they can be easily bent back into place. As long as the powder coat didnt crack and there arent any cracks in the mounting flange itself, the hitch will work just fine after being bent back into place. Ill link you to a help article that shows a few different methods of manipulating the hitch back into place.

Shipping was great. The hitch looked good and had all of the bolts and parts ordered. BUT the holes on the hitch did not line up with the holes on the frame. I loosely bolted the right side and the left side front bolt nearest to the bumper was 3/8" of an inch off. The back bolt hole was 1 1/4" off. It appeared the 2" square tubing was not bent correctly. What should have been a 30 min job took 2 hrs with some serious jigging and clamps. Several reviewers have had this same problem but I thought it wouldn't happen to me. Wrong! 264703

Fits perfectly on 2013 Nissan Frontier. Not quite effortlessly. Fairly typical for aftermarket hitch frames to be slightly sprung relative to frame mounting holes, in this case by 3/8", but easily "persuaded" into alignment by means of a big C-clamp. Excellent wrench clearance for 5 of 6 bolts, exhaust makes tight quarters for getting a 19mm socket on a click-torque socket wrench onto one bolt. While it >is< possible to get enough partial swing to torque that bolt to spec without lowering the spare, I recommend lowering the spare. Ask me how I know :o) Start all the bolts and get them snugged up before tightening and torquing to spec. Use blue Loctite. 419930

My 2008 Nissan Frontier. Turns out it didn’t have the trailer tow package but I was able to purchase the relay harness from my Nissan dealer. It also included the trailer wiring harness that not only fit the vehicle frame but connected perfectly with the mounting plate on the new hitch. Bought the DrawTite bolt on hitch kit. It had a slight bend on the passenger side which required me to use a small block of wood between the hitch and the rear bumper to prevent it from slipping while I used a light tug on a small crowbar to move the bracket into place directly over the mounting holes. Once I got the four corner bolts in it was a snap after that. I took these photos with the truck up on a pair of ramps while I was installing the tow package relays and the trailer wiring harness a few days after I installed the hitch. Photo 1: A rear view of the mounted hitch. Nice clean lines, doesn’t hang too low or stick out too far in back. A perfect fit! Photo 2: Another angle of the hitch. The receiver is in place while the rest of the hitch is barely visible below the chassis. Photo 3: From beneath. The reason I ordered the DrawTite hitch is the drawbar goes completely through the mounting brackets rather than simply welded to the sides. The six mounting bolts are snug up under the frame and the tab on the driver side is perfect for mounting the wiring harness/plug. Photo 4: The wiring harness that came with the tow package relay harness attaches directly to the drawbar perfectly. Rather than using the two 10mm hex head screw/bolts that came with the kit I attached the wiring bracket to the drawbar plate with two 7/16” x ½” coarse thread screws with washers and lock washers that I had on hand in the workshop. 23623

The first time I tried to put it up it did not fit. I pulled it down and called E-Trailer. I was pleasantly surprised to get to a person who actually went through all the steps to verify which model I received. It was the correct model but I realized one of the flanges was slightly bent. I believe it happened in shipping, but what is the difference. E-trailer told me how to make the slight bend to restore the flange to the correct angle and presto it bolted right in. 6 bolts, torqued them down and all done. Fits as described and looks good. 444548

Purchased this hitch for a 2008 Nissan Frontier, which will be used to tow a small Casita travel trailer. The price was reasonable, and with free shipping how could you go wrong? I thought I may have had to wait for over a week and wondered if I should have paid extra to expedite the process. No worries, it arrived in 3 or 4 days! Install was straightforward (though complicated by the fact that a ten year old truck had some significant corrosion on the weld threads on the frame, and needed about a half can of WD40 and multiple passes with included bolts for each hole. I was impressed by etrailer again, when I performed an internet search on cleaning up rusted threads, a helpful etrailer site with video came up on the first result page!) There is so much great support for e-trailer products, will definitely return for all my trailer needs. 443162

This is the second hitch and wiring harness I purchased from etrailer. The first one was about 10 years ago for my Windstar, which is still running/towing stong. Shipping was quick and arrived within a few days. Parts were neatly fastened to the hitch. I installed the hitch during my 1/2 hr lunch break at work. It was a simple job with one snag. The rear bracket bolt holes did not line up on the driverside. I had to hammer the bracket, furthest from the welded tub, outward. Once that was done I tightened and torked, job complete. I would like to see etrailer encorporate a wiring receiver into the hitch. This would eliminate the ugly hanging on the receiver wire and add to the professionally installed look. This hitch as a small plate on the driver side with pre drilled holes. Perfect for perminatly securing the wiring harness. 34963

Product arrived in good condition and all parts were present. I used a floor jack to raise the hitch into position and maneuver it while doing so as I worked alone. The instructions included were minimal but did provide the proper torque for the bolts. The online installation videos were _very_ helpful. I also was helped by a tip from a reviewer in one of the comments to use a clamp to align the bolt holes with the weldnuts because the final hole was just a fraction of an inch off from allowing the bolt to thread in easily. Installing the hitch portion took about 45 minutes for me but I took my time. 440972

The hitch works fine once it was installed. However, the parts that bolt to the frame were not the least bit square so the holes didn’t line up. It took two people and a lot of leverage to get all the bolts properly inserted. If not for a tight timeframe i would have returned it. Other reviewers had mentioned this also. I took a chance. 554536

The mounting flanges on a trailer hitch are designed for fore/aft strength, not side to side strength. The flanges are actually designed to have some give in them, so they will flex along with the vehicle. This way, if they get flexed during shipping, they can be easily moved back into place. As long as the powder coat didnt crack and there arent any cracks in the mounting flange itself, the hitch will work just fine after being manipulated back into place. Ill link you to a help article that shows a few different methods of move the hitch back into place.

The first time this hitch was sent, (08/25) it was never delivered due to damage when shipped. UPS sent it back and etrailer sent a 2nd hitch. I finally received (no pun) the hitch on 9/10. The packaging was torn where the extremities of the hitch had broken through the box and it did not fit the mounting holes due to the flanges being slightly bent. I had to take it to a body shop where a friend works and have them straighten the flanges. I was only then able to mount it as instructed. I like the product, but the packaging needs to be addressed for shipping any distance. Until the project was completed, it was actually a very frustrating experience. 563749

Nice quality product, finish was good despite UPS best efforts to destroy it. Only three stars because it did not fit properly. The passenger side mount was badly bent and was off by over a half a bolt hole. I do not know if this was a manufacturing defect or shipping damage. I found two large trees growing together and wedged the mount between them and pulled on the hitch to get it in shape. (gotta work with what you got) Worked out surprisingly well when all said and done. So now its on and I guess I'm happy, just disappointed because it was supposed to be a fun project that wasn't much fun. P.S. get or borrow a tap for the weld nuts 384107

I installed the Draw-Tite class III on my 2014 Nissan Frontier without much problem. Since I did not have a spare set of hands, I used 2 scissors jacks, one at each end of the hitch, to raise the hitch very close to the frame where they would be bolted. I discovered there is some slip play in the hitch bolt holes, so did not tighten any of the bolts until all 6 bolts were threaded part way into the holes. I then tapped the hitch as far back as it would move toward the back bumper and tightened all 6 bolts. It's a good solid fit. I will be using it to help haul an 18 ft kayak and alternately a bike rack. We also have a 26 ft Trailmanor camper. 303458

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2018 Nissan Frontier
  • For your 2018 Nissan Frontier the Draw Tite hitch part # 75282 is the hitch I would recommend because it has the best towing capacities, installs very easily and has the best price. The towing capacities are 5,000 lb trailer weight and 750 lbs tongue weight capacity. For trailer wiring the T-One part # 118266 is the correct trailer wiring kit to give you a 7-way that's fully functional. I attached an install video for this kit for you to check out as well. If you wanted to do some...

  • Recommended Wiring Harness for 2016 Nissan Frontier Without Tow Package
  • For your 2016 Nissan Frontier without a tow package, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 7-Way Trailer Connector # 118266. This will allow you to easily connect to your factory wiring and have a 7-way. If you only want the 4-way flat since you are using a small trailer, you can alternatively use the # 118525. Many with even small trailers prefer the 7-way but you can use an adapter like # 47345 or a 7-way with integrated 4-way flat like # HM40950. For the trailer hitch,...

  • Hitch, Wiring and Brake Controller Adapter For 2019 Nissan Frontier To Tow Trailer with Brakes
  • The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit part # 75282 is a great option for your 2019 Nissan Frontier. It is rated for up to 750 lbs of tongue weight and is a nice concealed cross tube design so the only part of the hitch that is visible underneath the Frontier is the receiver portion. I have attached an installation video for your reference. The wiring that you need to power the brakes on your trailer is Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package...

  • Trailer Hitch Bolt Too Big for Weld Nut on 2018 Nissan Frontier
  • I definitely recommend installing and torquing down all 6 bolts for the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75282 on your 2018 Nissan Frontier. Using only 5 of the 6 bolts will reduce the hitch's capacity to an unknown number since it was tested and rated with all the hardware in place, potentially leading to damage and injury while also voiding the hitch's warranty. The issue you are experiencing where it looks as if the hole isn't large enough for the bolt is actually not too uncommon....

  • Trailer Wiring Harness and Mounting Brackets for a 2016 Nissan Frontier
  • We do have a variety of trailer connectors and mounting brackets that you can use on your 2016 Nissan Frontier. If you need a 4-Way Flat connector then the Hopkins # HM43575 will work if you have the tow package. If you don't have the tow package then I recommend the T-One # 118525. You can mount either of these using the Tow Ready # 18144 with a no-drill bracket like part # 18140. For a 7-Way without the tow package use the T-One # 118266 with the mounting bracket # PK12711U and...

  • Are Additional Relays Needed to Install Trailer Wiring on 2018 Nissan Frontier with the Tow Package
  • To add trailer wiring to your 2018 Nissan Frontier you can use part # 118525 for a 4-way or part # 118266 for a 7-way. Both of the harnesses include all of the necessary relays so you don't need part # C57000 separately. I've linked install videos of both harnesses for you. If your truck doesn't already have a trailer hitch then I recommend the Draw-Tite # 75282. The other two options that fit have lower tongue weight ratings that may be less than what your truck is rated for. I...

  • Why Would Trailer Hitch Mounting Holes not Perfectly Line Up with Vehicle Frame
  • Sometimes hitches can get slightly bent during shipping and this can be fixed by bending the hitch back into place as long as the hitch only has a slight bend to it. If yours isn't lining up I can almost guarantee that is what happened. Some people will use open steps for leverage, vices and even car jacks to apply controlled force to bend the hitch back. You will want to look for flaking paint and physical stress marks on the hitch before and after you attempt to bend the hitch back....

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for a 2017 Nissan Frontier S
  • I checked with the manufacturer (Draw-Tite) and was able to confirm that the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 75282 works with all models of the 2017 Nissan Frontier. I also looked through some of the almost 400 reviews we have on the product and did not see any compatibility exclusions with a Nissan Frontier. This particular hitch is designed for the Frontier starting with the 2005 model year. For your 2004 Frontier, I instead recommend the Draw-Tite Class III # 75186. • Will a Front or Rear Mount Trailer Hitch have Better Ground Clearance on a 2012 Nissan Frontier
  • Draw-Tite front receiver # 65075 only fits the front of your 2012 Nissan Frontier. Since it mounts with the receiver below the front fascia it does not offer a lot of ground clearance. In my opinion a rear mount hitch, # 75282, will provide better ground clearance because when installed the receiver will be right up under the rear bumper. I have linked a video showing an example installation of this hitch for you.

Or if you use a weight distribution system the capacity bumps up to 8,000 lb trailer weight and 800 lb tongue weight. • Weight Distribution for a 2012 Nissan Frontier and 4,000 Pound Trailer
  • For your 2012 Nissan Frontier and trailer hitch # 87539 you will need a weight distribution system that is rated high enough for the total tongue weight of the trailer. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. A trailer weighing 4,000 pounds would have a tongue weight around 400 to 600 pounds (10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight). For...
