Rut tracking occurs when your truck or RV hits an uneven patch of pavement and is, consequently, pulled into that rut and off of the smooth pavement. With larger trucks and motor homes, this problem can be difficult to correct because you have to work even harder to steer back onto the road. With Roadmaster's TruTrac system, rut tracking is a thing of the past. The unique Trac rod attaches to the front axle of your vehicle, essentially holding it in place to prevent jarring and any unnecessary shifting. In addition to minimizing rut tracking, the TruTrac system helps to end driver fatigue by eliminating wander, which is the "loose steering" feeling that causes you to oversteer.

Video Transcript for Review of Roadmaster Anti-Sway Bars - Axle Stabilizer - RM-TRACV-10B

Today we're going to take a look at the Roadmaster True Track Front Axle Track Rod for large trucks and RVs. And this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 1999 to 2005 Ford F-53 and Ford F-550 Class A motor homes with the V10 engines. And on a custom fit part like this, I always like to recommend for you to go to the website, use our fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle and it'll show you if this'll work for your application. Also on the product page for this part number at the bottom of the page, it does list some of the motor homes that this will fit on.Now this part will make your vehicle easier to steer and control using this true track system. Has this unique rod here that'll keep your vehicle's axle in line so that your wheels won't veer into any ruts.

Now rough tracking will occur on your truck or RV when you hit an uneven patch of pavement and it's consequently pulled into that rut and off the smooth pavement. So with the larger trucks and motor homes, this problem can be difficult to correct because you've got to work even harder to steer back onto the road. And lots of times, it even makes you keep both hands on the steering wheel at all times. So basically with this unique track rod, this will attach to the front axle of your vehicle and it essentially holds it in place to prevent any jarring and unnecessary shifting. So it'll help minimize the wander and the rut tracking and improves overall performance. It will control excessive axle side play without affecting the up and down movement of your suspension.

And it also even reduces driver fatigue by eliminating wander, which is the loose steering feeling that will cause you to oversteer. So it will minimize the effort that's required to keep your vehicle in line. Now if you notice the bushings they use, they are built with polyurethane bushings instead of the standard rubber variety. It gives it a lot longer lasting system. And the reason is the polyurethane is much more durable and resistant to damage that can be caused by oil, gas, and ozone. So of course, less wear will mean less give in your system and better support.

The track rod itself is constructed of a thick cadmium plated 4140 chrome moly steel for superior strength. Diameter on this track rod is 1-1/2".Does include, I laid out on the table here are all the parts. It includes all the mounting brackets, all the grade five mounting hardware and a nice set of detailed installation instructions that'll describe in detail how to install this. Now this does install using existing holes in your vehicle's frame so there's no drilling or welding required. And what's really nice is some of our customers have commented that when they installed this part to their RV, that the parts have fit like OEM parts, no problems fitting.Another unique customer review we had, they mentioned that they drove a 32 foot Itasca Sunrise to Maine and it felt like they needed to keep both hands on their steering wheel constantly.

And they had this part installed when they we're in Maine. They drove back home to Florida with much better handling and control of their RV. So they're very happy. And this part is made in the USA. But that should do it for the review on the Roadmaster True Track Front Axle Track Rod for large trucks and RVs.

Thank you for the opportunity to tell of my experience with the Roadmaster TruTrac V-10B front-axle stabilizer rod. I have just installed the two brackets but we are not planning on going anywhere until August 20th when we will return from Gloucester MA where we will spend the summer, back to our condo in Florida. Ask me again in September! So I cannot tell you anything about how the stabilizer works, only installation matters... The warranty asks for a serial number but I could not find one anywhere. Paragraph two of the instructions says to install "passenger side bracket" but there is no indication of which part this is. I suggest you note in the parts list that identification instead of simply "Davis Tru-Trac Weld" or "Tru-Trac Weld" so we know for sure which part is which. The stabilizer bar is actually labeled "REAR TRAC BAR ASSY". I had to call the company to be assured that this part was actually for the front of the vehicle. It was all I could do to torque the nuts on the drivers-side spring u-bolt to 150 Ft/Lb (the maximum on the scale) with an ordinary 1/2" drive torque wrench. Should I buy a larger torque wrench to achieve the requested 220 Ft/Lb? The passenger-side bracket was more difficult to get tools into play. My torque wrench would not fit in there. I managed to tighten the three half-inch bolts as tight as I could possibly get them with my 1/2" drive ratchet handle. I will check them all after the first day of use and then from time to time. I do like the nylon insert nuts instead of lock washers to avoid loosing the parts in the case of loosening up. I have not yet installed the stabilizer bar as I will have to move the rig to flat ground for that in the next few days. The instructions say to measure from the ground to the top of the shock absorbers to make sure the rig is level. This seems unnecessarily cumbersome. Since the top of the shock is hard-connected to the frame then why not just measure from the ground to the bottom of the frame rails? It would be helpful to tell us how close the two measurements should be. I am looking forward to the added stability the TruTrac cross-bar should add to the rig. The primary purpose of buying this equipment is to eliminate the re-occurrence of the horrible "death wobble" that the Ford F53 motor home chassis is prone to. The first time it happened I was driving the rig home after buying it. The previous owner had read the max pressure on the tire saying 110 psi and had put that pressure into all six tires. The wobble started after a bump at around 40 mph and terrified me. I drove home at around 25 mph in the slow lane. I lowered the pressure to the manufacturer's placard 80 psi and went almost 10K miles without a recurrence. Before starting our current trip I increased tire pressure (all cold tire pressures) to 85 psi to try to get a little more stability. While going through a city in TN in 4 or 5 lanes of 70 mph traffic the "death wobble" struck again. After some heroics we managed to get into a delta where a on-ramp came into the main stream of traffic. This allowed me to get out and check the tire pressures up front. It was in the low 90s. I lowered the pressure to 80 psi and we had no further trouble, but I was determined to do something more positive to prevent the "death wobble" from happening again. So I did some looking around on line and settled on your stabilizer bar. Only time will tell if I have actually banished the "death wobble" for good. Thank you for your interest in my application. 656305

1999 Itasca Sunrise

Drove to Maine in June in my used 1999 32' Itasca Sunrise for our first long trip. Felt like I needed to keep both hands on the wheel constantly. Very sloppy handling. Had Davis True Track installed in ME. Drove home to Florida in Sept. Handling MUCH better with very improve sense of control. Very pleased with the product. 228908

Install was very straight forward. Did require a 3/4 impact wrench that I did not have to remove U-bolt on leaf spring. (It's nice to have friends that are truck mechanics). Other than that, it was a piece of cake. Have not had a chance to test drive yet, but hoping this does the trick. 546723

I installed the trac bar myself , every part fit like O.E.M. on the Ford F53 chassis . The only problem was removal of the nuts from the leaf spring shackle , 200 lbs ft torque , required an impact wrench. A test drive felt a bit firmer and more stable than without the bar. I feel your product is well engineered and high quality. Thank you , for a job well done. RET 142769

Already had a track bar on the rear axle which made a huge difference in handling. This front bar was also an improvement. Well worth the money. 403528

Review from a similar Roadmaster TruTrac in Anti-Sway Bars

Installation on my 07 W16 was not all that easy. I am 65 years old but have training and years of experience with mechanical systems. I would advise using a small hydraulic jack to hold the shock plate in place while replacing the u-bolts one at a time. The drivers side went quickly and very straight forward. A tungsten step bit makes enlarging the frame holes much easier than a twist bit. Every time I torqued the passenger side u-bolts they slid just enough to prevent the mounting plate from sliding on. I got it as close as I could and used a die-grinder with a large burr to clean out the somewhat crude holes in the mounting plate. On my motor home with 2 slide-outs and automatic leveling jacks, equipment was mounted to the inside of the frame right where the frame mounts had to go. On the passenger side I had to drill (drill press is best) new mounting holes in the supplied bracket to utilize one of the existing bolts and a lower hole for a supplied bolt. All of the bolts were a lot longer than necessary. All of the parts are over built if anything and disregarding the frame difficulties, I am quite confident the end result is very strong and should last a long time. 268331

Ask the Experts about this Roadmaster Anti-Sway Bars
Do you have a question about this Anti-Sway Bar?

  • Front Axle Stabilizer for a 1999 Fourwinds Infinity on a Ford F53 Chassis
  • Blue Ox does make a great product but Roadmaster's stuff works well so I would go with it, save some money, and maybe look into putting some of that back into stabilizing the rear end as well. So for the front axle use the Roadmaster TruTrac, # RM-TRACV-10B. For the rear you can upgrade the factory sway-bar bushings with kit # RM-4139-125. Upgrading just the bushings will also help provide a more stable ride compared to the stock bushings. I have included a link to our help article...
