Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Good hitch. Can modify piece above hitch and reuse it. Took out chunk for drawbar and used it. Instructions say don't reuse. 732900

Easy install, looks close to factory, only complaint is the paint started chipping off around the receiver about 10 months in. But it gets used a few times a week every week. 556004

Good product.. As an FYI from the installation video, a 5.5mm socket is the same as a 7/32" socket. As far as how I did my hitch installation: 1) I put anti-seize on the threads of the 8 mounting bolts, just in case I needed to remove the hitch later. 2) When I was reinstalling those plastic covers behind each wheel, I installed a couple thick fender washers on each of the forward mounting studs so that the plastic cover would not be bent or in a bind. With the hitch installed, the rearward stud passes thru the hitch bracket but the forward stud does not. 3) That rearward heat shield/plastic piece is removed and cannot be reused with this hitch. I noticed that in addition to being a heat shield, that plastic piece also functions to help stabilize the rear bumper cover. With it removed, that whole rear portion of the bumper cover moved easily and I became concerned about it moving excessively at highway speeds. To address the issue, I fabricated a couple of brackets from some light-gauge steel flat stock. I installed one bracket to each side of the hitch using the existing holes in the bumper cover. I used 1/4" push-pin fasteners to attach the bracket to the bumper cover, which allows it to have just a little movement, much like it had with the heat shield in place. I attached the other end of the bracket to a stud used for the heat shield directly above the muffler. 429618

Product just great, perfect fit. Found that inserting pull wire through finish hole threads first, without bolt installed then installing bolt, it was easier to thread the wire through and made installing the bolt easier and faster. Printing on instructions less than clear, quality wise, blurry. The video is great and easy to follow. 528087

Thanks again to e-trailer for making my life a little easier with my new trailer hitch. It was once again easy to install and it looks great. The instructions and being able to watch the video makes it easy to install and in no time ready to use. This is the second hitch I have bought and I will definitely recommend this product. Thanks again George. Now I can take my power chair and get more shopping done. The hitch is almost invisible. 525420

Things are still going great with my trailer hitch. I will definitely recommend etrailer to anyone in need of a great reliable trailer hitch. Thanks again George.

I like this hitch. It tucks up underneath nicely. It is installed on a 2015 ford edge sport. Only thing i wish this kit had some sort of replacement brace for the lower valance. You have to remove the muffler heat shield as a result of installation. I feel it would crack over time in the wind. Had to file the hole to fit the rectangular pieces thru when feeding bolts thru frame which i felt was pretty minor. The vehicle specific wire harness is awesome also! Easy to follow instructions too! 515809

Everything was included and worked as expected. The hitch and light kit on a 2017 Lincoln MKX took just over 4 hours working by myself (My help had to cancel at the last minute). The instruction videos were helpful, however I made a couple of changes. I did have to remove the back bumper panel, but I did not lower the muffler and exhaust. There was just enough room to slip the hitch over the tail pipes and position and mount the hitch. I supported the hitch with jack stands until I could get the first couple of nuts secured. Before re-installing the bumper, I mounted the plastic fender panels. Made it much easier to do first. The trickiest part of the wiring was finding where to mount the adapter box. Would up putting it right on the rear just below and to the left of the curve in the trunk opening. I then used a wire running kit from Harbor Freight (65326) to route the power wire through the frame. I used the same access hole used to thread the bolts for the hitch and found an exit hole just forward of the rear wheel. From there I found a debris cover to just under the firewall. Made running the power wire a snap. Parts wise, you will want to have some extra ty-wraps around. The ones included are barely enough and very short. 473165

Here is a summary of my personal experience of installing the Draw-Tite model 75234 onto my 2015 Ford Edge Sport. 1. I backed the car onto two 9” ramps. This gave me plenty of room to work 2. The kit instructions say to have 10mm and 5.5mm sockets available. This is a must as the bumper fascia is attached with 5.5mm sheet metal screws of which two are recessed. Do visit Home Depot and purchase the 5.5mm socket for $1.98. Will save you lots of headaches 3. Another important instruction is to secure the exhaust pipes well before unfastening the muffler. The pipes are quite heavy so secure accordingly. You don’t want them dropping to the ground. 4. If you back your car onto ramps, the height to lift the hitch into place for bolting is quite high. I used a jack for one side while muscling the other in place. The hitch is quite heavy so better to have a friend to help. 5. After removing the heat shield, the bumper fascia is not very secure. There are 6 unused sheet metal screws available to help secure the plastic fascia. I used two strips of plumber tape wrapped around the hitch crossbar and fastened to the fascia to firm up the plastic. Worked well. All in all I am pleased with the 75234 hitch. I like that the crossbar is hidden but am not real pleased with the safety chain loops. They are too low for my taste. Since I will only be using the hitch for my bike rack, I may end up cutting the loops off. 561048

2018 Ford Edge

The install went easier than expected. 3 Hours start to finish by myself. There were a few bare edges where paint was removed during shipping, which will be the first to rust. I might try to touch it up but in past experience this doesn't help much. Adding some padding on the edges of the frame might prevent damage during shipment. To the install. I am a moderately skilled shade-tree mechanic, and anyone who can do minor car repairs should be able to tackle this install. Removing the trim was easy. Using a strap to lower the muffler was not too bad (even detaching the hangers wasn't too bad). I would definitely go this route instead of removing the bumper cover as some others have mentioned... much easier. The hardest part was getting the hitch frame in place without a helper. I ended up using some landscaping bricks and an old empty car battery to lay one end of the frame on while I attached the other. Having someone to hold one side while you attach the other would make this part MUCH easier. Still, I was able to tackle it without too much trouble. Note the frame IS heavy, so you won't be able to just hold it up while you get the bolts attached. After that, I tightened the bolts, re-hung the muffler, and put the trim back on and it looks and works great! Now I can go fishing again with my new Edge. Also of note, the backup camera and the automatic rear hatch sensor still work fine. You do have to "kick" to just one side of the hitch or the other... but it works no differently than before. Very satisfied with the product, as long as it lasts the life of the car without rusting to pieces... which time will tell on that front. 724790

Comments
We always recommend covering any bare metal with a rust-inhibiting spray paint. If any rust has already started on the bare metal, cleaning it off before applying paint will help the paint apply better and prevent rust from spreading further. I have linked a help article on rust prevention.

Perfect fit. Had installed in about 2 hours working alone (will need jacks to hold in place). I do bodywork on cars so this wasn't a big deal installing. Also bought wiring harness which also installing was easy. The only draw back will have to move sensor for hands free liftgate. Excellent product and would buy again. 459627

Comments
Dale,it is possible that the hitch will partially block the liftgate sensors on the bottom of the vehicle near where the hitch is installed. The hitch should not affect the other liftgate sensors so there should not be a need for relocation. The feature should still work. Some customers do not have any issues with the sensors at all because the sensors are not positioned in the same place on all of the vehicles.

Great service, received it in 3 days. Great product, had one on my 2016 edge sport and it worked very well. I pull a 5 x 10 enclosed motorcycle trailer, never had any issues. Took about 2 hrs to install at home by myself. Got the same hitch for my ‘17 edge sport. 498687

The only problem I had was installing the heat shield that sits on the Rear bumper There’s no explanation on how to install so had to remove one half of the Hitch so I could pried open a little and cut some pieces in the end of both ends on the heat shield so it could fit other than that no other issues but it could Also be because I have the sport trim I see a lot of the se,sel and Titanium Trim On video but no sport Trim so my tip would be to install the rear Bumper heat shield before tightening all the bolts on the hitch Thanks Dan 811418

Installed my hitch on April 28, 2020 with my son helping me. It is a Drawtite 75234 installed on a 2019 Ford Edge. Installation went exactly Iike your video for a 2018 Edge. Took about 1.5 hours. We used ramps to get under car. We reinstalled the piece we had to remove to install the hitch but it had to be trimmed. Not sure if it is sound deading or aero dynamics. Used the Swagman G10 2 bike rack. Went together easily and is very solid. I am extremely pleased with etrailer! I would highly recommend both products. 789803

Finally finished the project! Took my wife and i two days to install hitch. Then recuperated for a day. Day three we did the wiring at rear of car. Got the black power wire half way to the front. Tired crawling under car without a lift. Day four, with help from NAPA and cable puller got power wire rest of way up to battery and connected. Tested OK. Do I get a prize for the longest install? Although it only took him online 16 minutes. And so it goes 778263

Great product, this hitch installed exactly like the video and directions showed. I used a telescoping magnet to grab the install wires when guiding them through the holes making quick work of that. Got a neighbor to help hold the hitch in place and pull the bolts through, tightened everything up and done in an hour and a half. I used zip ties to lash the lower panel to the hitch which tightened everything up nicely. Looks great after install and recommended for this vehicle a 2020 Ford edge. 772592

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch

  • Which Hitch for 2019 Ford Edge Does Not Require Heat Shield Removal
I can understand your concern; thankfully, I can offer a couple solutions. The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75234 states that only the Sport model of the Edge requires the heat shield to be removed permanently. However, when we installed it on a 2018 Ford Edge Titanium (non Sport), we found that it also required the heat shield to be removed and it cannot be modified or re-installed. The reason this is the case for the # 75234 is because it's designed to fit more snugly against...
