Question:
I have a 2018 Lincoln MKX Reserve and would like to install a 2inch hitch. Im very concerned about ground clearance. I would only want to use this for a Kuat Sherpa bike 2 bike rack and possibly storage rack at some point. Do not need to use for towing, How do I know that the clearance will not be an issue on hills , curbs, etc... what is a recommended clearance height? Understand that weight, etc will impact too- Thanks

With our Etrailer # e36RR, Curt # C78KR and Draw-Tite # 75234 receivers which fit your 2018 Lincoln MKX Reserve they all have a similar build. When we installed the Curt on a 2017 MKX it had a ground clearance at the chain hooks of 8" from the ground. Do understand this can vary slightly from vehicle to vehicle depending on the vehicle loading and condition of the suspension. This will be enough clearance for parking curbs and speed bumps depending on how much rear sag you may have.
To determine your approach and departure angles with the receiver installed you will need to measure the distance from the center of your rear axle on the ground to where the receiver will sit below your vehicle. You will be able to put this information into an online calculator to determine the maximum hill angles you could encounter without the receiver from dragging. You could also considering cutting off the chain hangers to get an additional 1-1/2" since you mentioned you would not use the receiver for towing.
