Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee we'll be installing the Draw-Tite Hitch, part number 75139. Next we'll go ahead and give you a couple of measurements to assist you with selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper is 7-1/2". From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 16". This will assist you with selecting accessories such as a ball mount, bike rack, or cargo carrier. Now we'll go ahead with the installation. To begin our install we'll first go ahead and locate our attachment points.

We'll have a total of 5 attachment points: 2 on the driver side, and 3 on the passenger. These attachment points are weld nuts built into the frame by the manufacturer and in all except for the rear attachment point on the passenger side have a manufacturer's bolt in the weld nut currently. Three of them are fasteners for the skid shield and the rear attachment point is a fastener for the rear reinforcement bar. First we'll go ahead and remove these four fasteners. We'll hang onto the hardware as we'll reuse it to install the hitch. For our 5th attachment point, the rear attachment point on the passenger side, we'll go ahead and clean out the weld nut because over time it's going to build up with rust, dust, dirt, and debris and can be difficult to install the new fastener.

To clean it out we'll use a 1/2" nylon tube brush, part number 814092, and some spray lubricant. Once we have it thoroughly cleaned out we'll go ahead and install the new 12 millimeter bolt and make sure it will go in nice and easily. Now with all our attachments repaired we're ready to go ahead and install the hitch. For the rear attachment point on the passenger side we're going to sandwich a spacer block between the hitch and the frame. To help put it into position we'll go ahead and tape it directly to the hitch now. Using some black electrical tape we'll just secure the block to the hitch attachment point.

We'll next lift the hitch into position. It may be a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you install your hardware. For our fifth attachment point, the rear attachment point on the passenger side, we'll go ahead and install the new 12 millimeter bolt and conical tooth washer. When installing the hardware be sure to note that the teeth of the conical washer should face the hitch. Now once we have all the fasteners in place we'll go ahead and tighten them down. Next we'll torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions.

With all our fasteners secured and torqued to specifications, we're now ready to hit the road. That does it for the install of the Draw-Tite Hitch, part number 75139, on our 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. .

Goods and bads. I ordered a trailer hitch for my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Good news, it arrived on time , great price, good website. I have nothing bad to say about etrailer.com but when I received my package the box was torn open, there are scratches all over the hitch, the hardware packet was opened. I have now idea if I’m missing hardware and I feel like I should repaint this thing before I install it to prevent rust. 617161

- 75139
by:

I only received 2 bolts and 2 washers. I did not receive any nuts. I was supposed to receive 5 bolts, 5 nuts, 5 washers and 5 spacers, plus any other hardware needed to install the hitch. Hopefully etrailer will send me the needed hardware when they read this review. 609256

Comments
Actually, the necessary hardware was included. The remainder of the bolts needed are already existing on the vehicle and are to be reused per the instructions. The nuts are already welded into the vehicles frame at the time the vehicle was manufactured. You can see this by checking out the instructions and the install video Ive linked for you.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Arrived 3 days after I ordered, 2 days quicker than anticipated. The threaded hole that didn't have a bolt in it required more than penetrating oil and a good brushing. It needed to be tapped. I removed the bumper (5 minute job) and used one of the stock bolts and penetrating oil with an impact gun and worked the bolt in and out, cleaning the threads of the bolt each time. It took about 10 minutes before the bolt went all the way. Then with the bumper still removed, I propped the hitch on my lap while sitting on my mechanics chair, started one bolt, then slide to the other side and started another. I didn't need a helper it was pretty easy. Torqued the 5 bolts as directed in the installation instructions, then reassembled the bumper. 580732

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo
There is a trailer hitch that will fit a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo but the one you mentioned does not fit. Instead I strongly recommend the Draw-Tite # 75139 because of Draw-Tite's strong reputation for making high-quality trailer hitches and because it is a bolt-on installation that will not require drilling into your Jeep's frame to install. This is a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver with a 500 lb tongue weight capacity and 5,000 lb towing capacity. It has a black powder coat...

  • Does the Draw Tite and Curt Hitch for the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Look the Same Once Installed
I went out into our warehouse and measured the distance from the top of the mounting brackets of both hitches down to where the cross tube is on both hitches and found them to both have the same distance of 7-1/2 inches. So basically the Curt Hitch # 13051 and the Draw Tite Hitch # 75139 would hang down the same distance once installed on your 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. So if you like how close the Curt hitch installs to the vehicle in the pictures of it, but also like the square cross...

  • Installing the Reese 44092 or Draw-Tite 75139 Trailer Hitch on a 2004 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4
I reached out to my contact at Cequent (who makes the Draw-Tite and Reese trailer hitches) to see if this was a common problem and he said that it sounds like the Reese trailer hitch you are trying to install on your 2004 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 is part 44092 which is the same as the Draw-Tite # 75139. He said it should fit and that one of the common things that happen when someone is installing this trailer hitch is that they don't have the bolt holes on the trailer hitch aligned...

The torque specs for the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75139, which fits your 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee, can be found in the installation details for the trailer hitch. These have been linked for you to reference. Sometimes the manufacturers will change the hardware that comes with the trailer hitch to better accommodate a new model year that the trailer hitch fits so it is always best to reference the instructions directly as new hardware could change the torque specs. I went out to the warehouse and measured the Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch, item # 75139 for your 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. From the point where the hitch mounting brackets contact the vehicle frame to the top of the hitch receiver the distance is 7-1/8 inches, and the distance from where the hitch mounts to the vehicle frame to the lowest part of the hitch underneath the receiver is 9-3/4 inches. You can tow 750 lbs of tongue weight with the Draw-Tite hitch, with a weight distribution system if you are not exceeding the vehicle's Gross Vehicle Weight rating and have a 4.7 liter engine.
