Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Good quality and very helpful phone sales support got me to the correct hitch model. The three piece bolted design was easy to install. All high quality fasteners were included. Well packed and shipped fast. The low drop design clears the low rear bumper on our 1965 F-100 Short Box Flare Side Pick up restoration project as promised.

Sorry can't give a review yet still haven't installed the hitch hopefully this spring.

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch

  • What Hitch for 1976 Chevy Pickup with 8ft. Bed and What Installation Is Involved
Part # 41504 is not the correct part for your 1976 Chevrolet Pickup. It is for deep drop bumper vehicles. These bumpers extend lower than normal. Since you have a standard bumper you would use part # 41001 for towing up to 6,000 pounds or part # 41938 if you are towing up to 12,000 pounds. Installation will require drilling and you will have to modify or re-locate your spare tire carrier. This usually just requires holding the tire towards the cab while you are pulling it back up under...

  • Trailer Hitch Option for 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 with Ranch Style Bumper
For your 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 the best option we'd have would be a deep drop bumper style hitch like the part # 41504. This hitch is designed for fitting under a bumper that's taller than the standard hitch that the truck came with. I looked up pictures of your bumper and it would be classified as a deep drop bumper so this would work well for you.

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 1997 Dodge Ram with Low Hitch Opening
For a hitch for your 1997 Dodge Ram that would sit as low to the ground as possible you would want to go with the Draw Tite hitch part # 41504. The distance from the hitch mounting surface to the receiver opening would be 7-1/2 inches. Since this hitch is designed for use with deep drop bumpers it would sit the lowest. Also, to compensate for taller vehicles you can just get a ball mount with a lower drop so that the trailer is towed level. I attached a help article on this for you to...

The Draw-Tite Class III hitch you had mentioned, part # 41504 is compatible with your truck. The mounting flanges can be reversed to they're pointing inward or outward, so the hitch is compatible with either cab/chassis models or regular pickup models. With the flanges pointed inward, center to center hole spacing is 30.94 inches or 35.5 with flanges pointing outward. As for the mounting flange dimensions, working from the rear of the vehicle toward the front, the rear most two holes are...

The video for hitch # 41001 is on a 1978 Chevy C/K pickup so it does stand to reason that it would be different than your 1986; still amazingly close though. The distance from the bottom of the frame down to the top of the receiver is approximately 5-3/8 inches. If your truck has the standard or step bumper then hitch # 41001 will fit. If you have the deep drop bumper it will not fit and you would need a different hitch # 41504.
