Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.
Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.
In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

My only complaint is that the hitch arrived with missing paint in several areas on both of the legs and on the bar itself. It was packed properly and nothing in the package caused the damage, so it must have been like that when it was boxed up. I called etrailer and they gave me a credit to buy spray paint to fix it, and since it's not visible under the car it's not a huge deal - I don't care that much about the paint matching perfectly, I just want it protected from rust. But it does make me question the quality of the paint coating over time, and how often I'll need to be under the car touching it up.
When I went to install the draw-tite receiver I couldn’t get the holes on one side to line up with the frame. I pulled it back down and noticed it was bent on one side about 1/2 inch. I was able to straighten it in a vice then it fit well. Will attach a pic showing the bent bracket on the right side as well as the straight one on the left. The shipping container was not damaged at all so I think it was not done during shipping. Other than that everything else was great. Fast shipping and good customer service
Great trailer hitch. I added this bike rack as well, Thule Roadway 2 Bike Rack - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Tilting My only complaint is that pulling out of steep driveways is much more difficult. Everywhere I go, I scrape the ground. It’s very loud. I have to pull out of driveways like I’m a Fast & Furious car, sideways so it doesn’t scrape.
Was extremely easy to install. Took me 30 minutes to install by myself without the car jacked up. Looks nice installed on the car and does not stick out like I thought it would. Performed as it should, although I am only using it for a bike rack, for now.
The product was shipped quickly and there was good email follow-up after we ordered. Neither of us is particularly mechanical, but we wanted to give a shot at installing it ourselves. The instructions were clear and helpful. We felt confident in tackling the project because of the videos and information that were shared through etrailer, and it was a success! (Note: smaller hands are helpful for this particular install given how the spacer plate feeds into the holes, but it wasn’t a problem.) We specifically wanted the hitch so we can use a platform bike rack as opposed to a trunk rack with straps. This is definitely going to make life a lot easier in that regard. If we end up switching cars in the future, we would definitely come back to etrailer to order another hitch.
Easy to install, bolted right on to the car without any modifications. Works like a champ. I have made several long trips with my bike rack plugged into the hitch and have had no problems. I highly recommend this hitch if you are looking for a solid bike rack solution for your Mazda 6.
I had a roof rack on my car and got tired of the extra wind noise and hit on fuel economy. I decided to try a hitch rack and ordered the Draw-Tite Sportframe 1-1/4" receiver. The ordering process couldn't have been easier and the shipping was super fast. I ordered late on Friday afternoon and it was here by Monday. The instructions on the website were excellent and easy to follow. The wires that come with the kit to pull the bolts through make it simple. I installed the hitch by myself in about 35 minutes. A helper would have shaved 10-15 minutes off the process. I installed a washer and nut on each side to hold everything in place, then installed the other nuts with blue Loctite. I then removed the nuts that I installed first and put Loctite on them as well and reinstalled. This added about 5 minutes, with a helper to hold things in place I could have just put Loctite on in the first place, but I only have so many hands. The instructions don't call for Loctite but I figured it wouldn't hurt. After everything was snugged up I torqued the nuts to spec and was done. The product arrived in good condition, installation was easy and the customer service at etrailer was top notch!
Holy cow that was easy. My son and I backed the Mazda 6 onto a patio block to get some lift and installed the draw-tite hitch in no time. The hardest part was torquing to 75ft-lbs because we were on our backs. Very well designed installation process. We even used the shipping box to lay on the driveway. All I needed were 3/4 inch socket, handle and torque wrench. Done.
We ordered this hitch so we could use a hitch mounted bike rack on our 2015 Mazda 6. I had the shop I use install it as I don’t have the tools. They said installation was quick and easy. Buying from etrailer was great. The hitch came quickly and communication was good.
I finally got a warm day without rain for this driveway installation by myself. The fish wire for bolt installation worked brilliantly however unscrewing it in restricted space certainly requires eye protection the way the end flicks around. Being alone is a challenge to hoist the bar as you described but with wood blocks and tie down tape I managed to get it to position to get the nuts on as shown in photos. It took me an hour and 15 minutes to install. Looks good, eh!
Mounting brackets were bent on each side and needed to be straightened out (hadn't realized until attempting to bolt it to the frame). Once we got that sorted out the rest of the installation went pretty well. All in all a good solution for getting a hitch-style bike rack onto my Mazda
The hitch is as advertised. The installation instructions and videos were excellent. Installation was very straightforward, but it definitely is helpful to have two sets of hands to maneuver the hitch into position. Very satisfied with the whole process.
4th hitch purchased from eTrailer and each one has gone on simple and easy every time. I was concerned about fitment for the 2019 Mazda6 Turbo because I had not seen any photos in the reviews. Well, it came around 4pm and I was finished installing the hitch and my rack by 4:30pm. Another easy install. Thanks etrailer!
- Delivered within a couple of days of ordering. FAST! - Fits GREAT! - Installed rather easily by myself. A second person would have made it even easier. - If there is one 'ding' in this review is that there were a couple of spots where the paint was already chipped off. Not a big deal--After a few months of driving around, certainly there will be a few more nicks and chips. This is my third hitch from etrailer. If/when another hitch is needed, etrailer will be my first place to look.
Yes, items received, 3 days earlier than expected. The only issue I have is that the trailer hitch, in few locations had chipped paint (or powder coat), here are some photos. Not the end of the world, but unfortunate.
I loved how easy this was to install with no experience at all. Only took me 90 minutes and includes the wiring installation.
This product seems great. I spent $60 for installation at a local auto shop.
I am an anomaly. My product actually came in defective. However I will continue to do business with ETrailer due to the fact of their great customer service. They have been working with me to get this issue resolved.
The install video was very helpful. I have a 2017 Mazda 6 and the installation was exactly as described. One thing I did (perhaps not necessary) was put a bit of duct tape on each bolt so I didn't inadvertently push them back into the frame. I also didn't jack the car up (I didn't have to) and completed the install by myself by lying my body between the hitch and the ground to support it. I'm not saying this is the easiest. Obviously having two people and the car lifted would make more sense, but I'm just saying what worked for me doing the job solo.
Love the easy install. Seems to work well. Only issue is we have only carried to very light bikes and always loaded correctly but the end of the hitch seems to have twisted just slightly but no welds broken. Now bike rack leans slightly to the right but has not become any worse. ??
The only thing I saw that could have provided a bit of a an issue was a couple of areas in which the paint was compromised by a scratch. It wasn't too big of a deal for me as I simply used a can of flat black spray paint and just repainted the whole thing. Other than that, the hitch went on without a "hitch." ;) I had watched a video on a guy who installed this on a 2014 Mazda 6, so I was already familiar with how it should go on. The wire provided for each of the 4 bolts worked so slick that my oldest son was back playing his computer games in less than 20 minutes. I liked that the instructions that came with the hitch gave the torque recommended. If you do not have a torque wrench, either buy it (everyone should have one of these tools) or borrow one from a friend. I bought this hitch so I didn't have to use the trunk mounted bike rack. This is such a better option!! No worries about damage to my car or scratches.
Shipping was quick. Installation took me about 45 minutes plus several trips to home depot and auto parts store to get the right tools. So biggest advice is to make sure you have all the tools you need. The biggest slowdown during installation for me was not having a deep 3/4" socket and not having a 10" extension for the socket wrench to reach up. Once I had all the tools, I was able to get this installed on my own without a lift. I am a small guy in good shape and was able to wrestle it into place using yoga blocks and my arms and legs to shift one end up while the other was on the blocks. It would definitely be a faster, easier job with someone helping you. I'm using the hitch for a 2-bike rack, and it seems to be working without any issue. :-)
The hitch was easy to install, the kit has all the hardware you need. I did it by myself and the only tool I needed that wasn't included with the kit was a torque wrench. I bought it to hold my bike rack. I rode over 12 hours with my bike on the rack the first weekend I had the hitch, and it gave me no problems. A solid build!
