Axle Dimensions

Hub Face and Spring Center Measurements on Standard Trailer Axle

There are multiple ways to measure the length of an axle beam, but the hub-face-to-hub-face and spring-center-to-spring-center lengths are the most accurate. Hub face (A) refers to the length of the axle measured from the base of one wheel stud to the base of the wheel stud on the opposite side of the axle (when hubs are mounted on the beam).

The spring center (B) is the approximate width of your trailer. It is measured from the center of the spring seat on one side of the axle to the center of the seat on the other. This axle beam comes with the spring seats welded on.

If you are replacing your trailer's axle, you should be able to figure out which type you need by determining your trailer's capacity, the bolt pattern of your wheels, the brake type and the aforementioned lengths.

etrailer Axles

etrailer axles are made of high-strength steel and come with spindles and spring seats welded on. The spring seats are attached to the underside of the axle so that the leaf springs (sold separately) can mount beneath the axle. The result of this underslung design is a trailer that rides a bit lower for quick and easy loading and unloading.

Each axle is manufactured to create a certain camber angle. This ensures that the angle of the wheels is correct for your towing needs. Because the primary concern when towing is maintaining controlled, in-line movement, each axle is made so that your trailer's tires will run along the pavement evenly, with contact across the width of the tread. The result is excellent straight-line acceleration for steady, in-line tracking. You might notice the bend near the center of the axle; this is what ensures the proper camber angle. Having the center ride a bit higher and the sides of the axle bent lower allows the axle to give just enough to compensate for the load.

  • Looking For 7,000 lb Axle For HD Trailer
Hello Chrisotpher, thanks for reaching out. We do offer some 7K rated axles but our axles are round tube leaf spring axles. We do not offer any torsion axles sadly. We do have some 7K axle-less options that could work for you. I will list a few options for you below. I will also provide links that will show you our full selection of 7K axles. - Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles - 95" Long - 7,000 lbs # e88GR - Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension - Standard Duty - No Drop -...

  • What's Needed To Upgrade From 5,200 Lb to 7,000 Lb Trailer Axles
We currently offer 7,000 lb trailer axles in two different lengths, 94" part # e93GR and 95" part # e88GR which is measured from the face of each hub. The spring centers are set at 79" and 80" respectively but these can always be moved to a degree if needed. If these will work for you then you'll also need to get new springs and u-bolts like the U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb, Round Trailer Axles part # APUBR-8 but the rest can be reused like your brakes and hubs/drums. • Replacement Trailer Axle For 93" Hub Face To Hub Face Measurement
The Trailer Axle Beam # e93GR is the closest axle we have to the 93" hub face to hub face measurement you are looking for. It has a 94" hub face to hub face measurement. While the spring center on this axle is 79" you can have new Spring Seats # TRSS300 welded at the 76" you need. This axle is rated for 7,000lbs but will use the same #42 Spindle # TRU37FR and brake flange as the 6,000lb axle allowing you to use it. If you will not be able to use this axle due to the hub face difference...

  • Replacement Axle Options For a 7,000LB EZ-Lube Axle With 83" Hub Face Measurement
I do have one option for you as currently the narrowest 7,000LB Axle # e93GR is 94" from hub to hub. The Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System # TASR7KS01 allows you to remove the leaf spring suspension and bolt the assembly to the trailer frame. This system utilizes Timbren Aeon progressive springs for a smoother ride on your trailer. The hub face will sit 6-1/4" from the frame of the trailer with the axle centerline 3-1/2" below the trailer frame. This spindle is the same size used...

  • Can I Reuse Old Hubs And Brakes For My New Axle
When it comes to switching to The Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles - 94 inch Long - 7,000 pounds # e93GR you can use your existing hubs and brakes if they meet the criteria. The spindle # e93GR uses an inner bearing of # 25580 and an outer bearing of # 14125A with The Seal # GS-2250DL that has an inner diameter of 2.25 inches. If your bearings are the same then it will match up. The inner bearing # 25580 has an inner diameter of 1.750 inches and the outer bearing # 14125A has...

  • Solution to Replace a 3 Inch Round Axle w/ a 91 Inch Hub Face
Sorry Frank but we have no standard axles that match the dimensions you are needing. We're a couple of inches off on the hub face for the closest one item # e93GR. The only alternative I have is to offer you an axle-less solution which is a set of Timbren's that attach to the sides of your trailer's frame and offers an independent suspension system. A 3" diameter axle is somewhere between a 5,200 lbs and 7,000 lbs capacity axle typically. I have listed the two options I have below: 5,200...

  • Recommended Trailer Axle for Trailer with 93" Long Hub Face Measurement
I do have an option for you but the closest trailer axle we offer for what you're looking for is the Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles part # e93GR which measures 94" at the hub face and 79" at the spring center. If used to replace a trailer axle with a 93" hub face then the wheels/tires will stick out a 1/2" more on each side. The spring seats can then be cut and rewelded. The axle has a 7,000 lb capacity. I have attached for you below a video I made to help others pick out...

  • Is Trailer Axle Spring Seat Dimension Critical when Picking Out Replacement Axle
Exact measurements are critical when picking out a replacement axle for a trailer. Especially the spring seat to spring seat dimension since that is where the axle attaches and it needs to match to allow the suspension to function. You are very close to the # e93GR though so I would try measuring again or if you have another axle on the trailer that isn't damaged measure that.

  • How to Determine Replacement Axle for 7k Dump Trailer
I have a way that you can determine what axle you need. Unfortunately, from your trailer model, I could not find the length specs of your 7k axles. Since you have a 7k axle, the next thing you need to know is the measurement from the left hub face to the right hub face as well as the left spring center to the right spring center. For example, if you have a hub face measurement of 94 inches and a spring center measurement of 79 inches, I recommend the Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease...

  • 7,000 lb Axles & How to Determine Correct Hanger
So all of the parts are just going to depend, meaning it's impossible to give you anything exact. To choose the correct axle you need to measure your current axle's hub face to hub face and spring center to spring center; I have added a link below to a video which walks you through how to measure. For example, if it was 94" hub face to hub face and 79" spring center to spring center you'd use the Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles - 94" Long - 7,000 lbs # e93GR. I have added a...

  • Looking For 94.25" Hub Face Torsion Axle For Open Deck Trailer
Hello Jim, I do appreciate you reaching out, but I am sorry to say that we do not offer any torsion axles here. We do have a 94" hub face axle part # e93GR but this is a round tube leaf spring axle. So the axle may technically fit your trailer but you would be looking at replacing more than just the axle itself. If you want a direct replacement for your torsion axle I suggest contacting an axle manufacturer like Dexter. They offer way more axle options than we do, or they may be able to...

  • Can Spring Seats Be Moved From 74" to 76" On A 89" Hub Face Axle e65SR?
Hello Rob, thanks for getting in touch. There is not going to be enough room on the 89" hub face axle # e65SR to move the spring seats out to 76". That would have the spring seat literally right up against the backing plate and there would be no room for hardware, so this would not work. You can see in the picture below, the spring seats are about 2" wide, so moving that center any farther outboard will be way too tight. You would have to go with a longer axle, and the next size up we...
