I just received the Custer Smart Light from etrailer yesterday. Charged the light bar for a few hours as recommended then mounted it to the roof of my SUV and plugged the transmitter into my motorhome. The light bar works as advertised. Time will tell if this item holds up to about 8K miles of towing per year. If all is well after a years use I give it 5 stars.

I use the light bar on my SUV towed behind my RV. The towed vehicle is a $50k SUV so I was not excited about tapping into the wiring, or drilling holes in the taillight for an extra incandescent light in a well designed LED setup. I just have two comments. One make sure you zip tie the transmitter. If you are driving on 95 in the Northeast it will vibrate out. I am glad I thought of it or I would have been very unhappy. Second, you can not tell if the light runs out of juice. If it was not for irate truckers honking I would not have known. Be ready with a backup power supply in case your driving day includes a 3 hour delay due to accidents. Otherwise it has clung well, worked great and is very bright. I would recommend this product for any tower’s

  • Wireless LED Tow Bar Light with Magnetic Base
The Custer Wireless LED Tow Bar Light with Magnetic Base, # LIW-LDTL is a wireless system that sets on your towed vehicle to provide the needed brake and turn signal indicator lights instead of using the wiring and lights on your towed vehicle. Made in USA and DOT compliant.

  • How Would 2001 TJ Wrangler Custer Wireless LED Tow Bar Light # LIW-LDTL Fit Wrangler
The Custer Wireless LED Tow Bar Light # LIW-LDTL that you referenced is designed to attach with the powerful magnets on the bottom of it either to the top of a vehicle or to the rear bumper. Looking at the rear of your 2001 Jeep TJ the best shot it's going to have at fitting properly is if you have a metal rear bumper you can set it on top of since the top is not metal. If you have other ideas let me know and maybe we can work out a better solution. I attached a review video for this...

  • Availability of Wireless LED Tow Light that Uses a Rechargeable Battery
The exact thing that you just described is the Custer Wireless LED Tow Light # LIW-LDTL. It uses magnets to install on the towed vehicle and has a rechargeable battery so you to not have to purchase AA or AAA batteries to power it. For the light functions to work you will simply need to plug in the wireless transmitter to the 7-Way on the back or your RV or tow vehicle and then flip the switch to the "on" position on the light bar. Since this is made to be installed on the top of a towed...

  • Recommended Wireless Magnetic LED Tow Light
We carry the CusterWireless tow light system # LIW-LDTL that do not splice into the vehicle wiring as you said you wanted. We do not carry the Pilot lights you mentioned. The great feature about the # LIW-LDTL is that it is a magnetic light and you only have to be concerned with one area to attach it to. This system has a charging cord for the light, where the Pilot system uses 6 AA batteries that can be a hassle when the batteries go dead.

  • Can Anything Else be Plugged in when Using Custer Wireless LEDTow Light # LIW-LDTL
The 7-Way connector would be occupied by the transmitter for Custer Wireless LED Tow Light # LIW-LDTL. Any supplemental braking system you use that requires 12 volt power should get that power from the vehicle it is installed in and not from the RV. The reason is because if the vehicle gets disconnected from the RV the braking system will still have power allowing it to apply the vehicle brakes and avoid a runaway vehicle. If you can tell me the braking system you have I can look into how...

  • How to Charge Custer Wireless LED Tow Bar Light # LIW-LDTL
The Custer Wireless LED Tow Bar Light # LIW-LDTL does have a rechargeable battery and the only way to charge it is by plugging in the included 12V DC/cigarette style adapter charger. It will still function like normal when it's actually plugged in and charging, but you will want to make sure that the 12V outlet in your towed vehicle still gets power when the vehicle is turned off for flat towing. I have attached a short video review on this tow bar light that you can also check out.

The transmitter for the Custer Wireless LED Tow Bar Light - Weatherproof - Magnetic Base - 23" Long - 7-Way Round Item # LIW-LDTL-7B gets it's power through the 7 Pole plug on the back of the RV. It sounds like you are saying that when the brakes are pressed in your tow vehicle, and the turn signal is on at the same time, that the brake light on the Custer Wireless LED Tow Bar Light - Weatherproof - Magnetic Base - 23" Long - 7-Way Round # LIW-LDTL-7B flashes with the turn signal. The Custer Wireless LED Tow Bar Light - Weatherproof - Magnetic Base - 23" Long - 7-Way Round # LIW-LDTL-7B is most likely going to use a different frequency than your camera will. To verify for sure you can look up the mega/giga hertz of your camera's frequency and see if it matches the 914 megahertz frequency that this light will be on. If it does not match the frequency then you will have no interference issues.

  • How Many Hours Will the Custer Wireless LED Light Battery Last Between Charges
The Custer Wireless LED Tow Bar Light # LIW-LDTL has a 4-8 hours battery life before it would need to be charged, so it's not really ideal for the use that you're looking for. With that said, if you could figure out a way to keep it plugged in to a 12v power source inside the tow vehicle you could likely make this work as you're hoping. You could also use a setup like the Roadmaster Standard Magnetic Tow Lights # RM-2120. Check out the attached video to see how easily it is installed.

  • How to Use Custer Wireless Tow Bar with RV that has 6-Way Round
The 4-way round connector is very rare and the 6-way round is somewhat common but more rare than 4-way flats and 7-ways so what that means is that we don't have an adapter for your configuration but I have a similar solution. We have a version of the Custer Wireless Tow Bar Light that uses a 7-way blade with the part # LIW-LDTL-7B which we do have adapters for like with the # 337TC1067P which plugs into your 6-way and converts to same connector as the tow bar.
