HI If I disconnect the battery in the tow vehicle can I wire directly to the lights with out isolating diodes.

If you were to wire in the 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 tail lights directly to the tow vehicle there could be back feeding problems which could damage electrical components even if the battery is disconnected. There could also be shorts when the truck is not being towed and its lights are used. Using a diode system such as # TR118821 prevents that from happening.

If you do not like the idea of tapping into the tail light wiring and adding diodes another option is a wireless and/or magnetic system such as # LIW-LDTL or # TL21RK, respectively.
