Durable, Corrosion-Resistant PVD Finish Is Environmentally Friendly

PVD Finish

The highly corrosion-resistant finish on this steel wheel is applied through a physical vapor deposition (PVD) coating process. This process occurs in a vacuum environment so that the aluminum coating binds to the steel at a molecular level. As a result, the coating is harder, more durable, and more wear resistant than chrome plating.

Compared to hexavalent and trivalent chrome plating methods, the PVD process creates a finish that withstands the effects of water, flying debris, and other elements for a longer period of time. The aluminum-coated wheels performed for more than 168 hours in salt spray tests, up to 500 hours in water immersion tests, and up to 40 lbs in impact-resistance tests. They won't pit or peel like chrome-plated wheels, and they resist the effects of any chemicals that may be on the road, such as magnesium chloride or salt during icy or snowy weather.

In addition, the PVD coating process is an eco-friendly alternative to chrome plating, which is extremely toxic to the environment.

Improved Torque Retention Technology

Beveled Stud Holes Front and Back

The automotive-rated center disc is raised and the stud holes are beveled and uncoated for better clamp force retention. This technology helps the wheel stay tight against your hub without the need for constant retightening.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for Taskmaster Tires and Wheels - Wheel Only - 560545MBPVD Review

Today we're going to review part number 560545MBPVD. This is the Taskmaster 15 inch by 6 inch modular steel wheel with the black PVD finish and the 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. Now, this wheel is a sturdy steel wheel modular design wheel and the modular design is the one that has the round holes all the way around the wheel. This one has the nice PVD finish, which is extremely corrosion resistant. The PVD finish stands for Physical Vapor Deposition and this coating process creates a nice sleek black finish. It's harder and more durable than chrome plating.

It is a very tough wear-resistant coating, it won't pit or peel, and it resists the effects of any chemicals that may be on the road, like magnesium chloride or salt, during any icy or snowy weather. This environmentally friendly technique will bind the coating to the wheel at a molecular level. If you look at the back of the wheel, very nice finish on it and it's a very thin coating over the wheel. This wheel also uses the ITR technology, which is Improved Torque Retention, and this is designed to help keep the wheel securely in place on your trailer. They use the uncoated stud holes that are beveled to offer better clamp force retention. Now, the valve stem is included with this.

This is a high quality wheel that does meet the Department of Transportation specifications. Few specs on this; the diameter of the wheel, which is measured inside the inside, is 15 inches. We'll put a tape measure on that just to give you an idea. There's your 15 inch diameter on the wheel. The width on this wheel which is, again, measured inside the inside or bead seed to bead seed, and that's 6 inches, so 15 inches by 6 inches. Now, the bolt pattern on this wheel is a 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern and on a wheel that has a odd number of lugs, like in this case 5, the way if you want to measure the bolt pattern, what you do is pick any hole, we'll pick this one, and then you're going to measure across from this hole to either one of these holes, but the trick is you want to measure from the center of the starting hole to the outer edge of the hole that you go to. In this case, let's use our tape measure, we're gonna go from this one to this one.

We'll go center to outer edge and you can see it's 4 1/2 inches. There you go. That's a 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. This wheel does use the wheel lug size of 1/2 inch by 20. The weight capacity on this wheel is 2,830 lbs. and the pilot hole diameter, which is the large hole in the center of this wheel goes over the hub on your trailer, the diameter of that opening is going to be right at 3.3 inches. That should do it for the review on part number 560545MBPVD.

This is the Taskmaster 15 inch by 6 inch modular steel wheel with the black PVD finish and the 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern.

No problems what so ever. They balanced out great and with the new tires; I can't believe how much smoother the trailer now pulls. I love the look and I don’t have to worry about them rusting for years to come. 336327

Comments

After a year of camping and around 800 miles since installed, the wheels are preforming as expected. I never leave on a trip or head home without torqueing the lug nuts and checking tire pressure. I still love the look of the black wheels.

The rims look great! A few chips on the edges. Not sure why 2 of the rims had a rubber valve stem and the other 2 had a metal stem! 695753

Wheel to be the Spare Tire/wheel for Montana HC 5'th wheel. The black color of this item will "match" the style/color of wheels that are in service. Quality is VERY good and the Black PVD finish on the wheel is even better than expected. etrailer web site very user friendly and helpful. 385533

Ask the Experts about this Taskmaster Tires and Wheels

Do you have a question about this Tires and Wheel?

  • Upgrading to 15 Inch Wheels/Tires on a 2006 Tracker Tahoe 215 Boat Trailer
  • I do have options for you but we do not offer pre-mounted wheel and tire combos in the size you want with the lug pattern you have therefore, you will need to purchase the tire and wheel separately. I looked up some specs on the 2006 Tracker Tahoe 215 Boat Trailer and it appears that you have the 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. The pre-mounted 15" diameter wheel with e rated tire combos we offer all come in a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern. The absolute best e rated trailer tire we offer is the...

  • Correct Trailer Wheel Size for 235/75-15 Tire
  • I do have a great option for you, however a 235/75-15 size tire will not fit the Dark Matter Steel Modular 15" x 5" Trailer Wheel # 550545M1DMX. This particular tire size needs at least a 6" width on the wheel for proper mounting. For a similar modular wheel in black that has the required 6 inch width I recommend the Taskmaster # 560545MBPVD instead. This sleek trailer wheel has a weight capacity of 2,830 pounds and the same 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern as the option you were looking at....

  • Taskmaster Trailer Wheel Valve Stem PSI Specifications for Steel Modular Wheel #560545MBPVD
  • The max psi of the valve stem will sometimes depend on the tire you mount to the wheel. In a complete tire/wheel/stem product the lowest-rated of those parts determines max psi for that item. So for example the # AS225B645BMPVD which is mounted on the # 560545MBPVD wheel has a max psi of 65 with a max load of 2,540lbs. This same wheel is used in the tire and wheel combo # A15R645BMPVD and will have a max psi of 50 and have a max weight capacity of 1,820lbs. I spoke with my contact...

  • 15 inch Trailer Rim Recommendation Rated for 65 psi
  • Generally the limiting factor for psi on a trailer rim is the valve stem, but if the rim on your trailer does specify that it itself cannot take more than 50 psi then you would want to upgrade the rim. Typically rims can handle over 50 psi pretty easily but I can't recommend you exceed the rims capacity. If you are looking for a 15 inch diameter rim that is 6 inches wide with a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern that can handle 65 psi easily the part # 560545MBPVD would work well. I attached...

  • Does Pilot Diameter of Replacement Trailer Wheel Matter When Picking Out New Wheels
  • In most cases the pilot diameter does not matter as long as it's larger than what the hub of the trailer would require to fit properly. The only time pilot diameter is critical is if the hub is a hub-centric setup where the wheel centers on the hub with the pilot hole. If your current wheel attaches with bolts instead of lug nuts you would have a hub-centric setup. If you have lug nuts you have a lug-centric setup. The part # 560545MBPVD that you referenced has a pilot diameter of 3.31...

  • Recommended Trailer Wheel for 235/75R15 Size Tire
  • A 235/75R15 size tire will mount to a 15 inch wheel that features a width range of 6 to 8.50 inches. With this in mind, the Taskmaster Steel Modular Trailer Wheel # 560545MBPVD that you referenced should work nicely with your off-road tires, as it features a 15 inch diameter and 6 inch width. This is a really nice, steel wheel with a modular design and sleek PVD coating that creates a black finish. It has a bolt pattern of 5 on 4-1/2 inches. Please note that it is recommended to only...

  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System Compatibility with Taskmaster Steel Modular Trailer Wheel
  • The Taskmaster Steel Modular Trailer Wheel - 15" x 6" Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - Black PVD Finish # 560545MBPVD has the J-type flange and is 6 inches wide. The valve step hole is 0.453 inches which is the standard until you get to the high pressure tires which are normally larger sizes. Your Tire Pressure Monitoring System will work well with this wheel.

  • Can a Different Wheel with Matching Specs Be Used for a Spare Tire on Travel Trailer than Main Wheel
  • The # 560545MBPVD for your main wheels and # TTW560545WS1 as your spare will work well for you. As you noted, both tires have the same ratings, measurements, and bolt hole pattern so as long as you use the same size tire on all of the wheels, they will work well for you on your trailer. I spoke with my contact at Taskmaster and she confirmed that this combination of wheels will work well on your trailer for you. I have attached a help article on trailer tire frequently asked questions...

  • BackSpacing for Taskmaster Steel Modular Trailer Wheel # 560545MBPVD
  • Since most trailer wheels (including the Taskmaster Steel Modular Trailer Wheel # 560545MBPVD) have a zero offset that means the back spacing is just half the width of the wheel. That means this wheel has a 3-1/2 inch backspacing. To determine that you take width of wheel, 6 inches, add inch for lip, and then divide by two.

  • What Is the PSI Rating of the Taskmaster Steel Modular Trailer Wheel
  • The Taskmaster Steel Modular Trailer Wheel part # 560545MBPVD as with all trailer wheels do not have a psi rating. The reason for this is because the wheel itself will never be the limiting factor but instead the valve stem. If you need a high pressure valve stem then the Americana Metal, Bolt-In Valve Stem part # AM20906 is what I recommend as it has a 200 max psi rating.
