Question:

Hi. I have a Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer for a Heavy Kayak Item MAL73FR. Id like put a spare tire on it. Do you have a mounting bracket that I could add to the trailer? If so, could you please send me a link for the bracket, tire and wheel that you would recommend? Thanks.

Hey Chuck,

Malone has a spare tire and mount for the Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer for a Heavy Kayak # MAL73FR with part # MAL33FR. It's just a simple U-bolt that you'll use to clamp the wheel to the frame of the trailer, just like the picture below.

Hi Kevin. Thanks for your super-quick reply and the product recommendation. That looks like it might be a good option to consider. Here are a few quick follow-up questions. It looks like the u-bolt will come off of the trailer frame if the spare tire is removed. Is that true? If so, is there a (retainer) plate or some other hardware that can be bolted on so the that u-bolt doesn't come off? If not, is there another tire mount available that will stay on when the spare tire is removed? And if so, cane the Malone spare tire and wheel be purchased separely, i.e. without the u-bolt kit? @ChuckE The Spare Tire for Malone EcoLight Trailer # MAL33FR does have a bracket that a lock can be ran through to hold to mount to the frame and prevent theft. If you want just the spare tire then you can use the Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" Galvanized Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range B # AM30030. If you'd like a different mount for the spare tire then you could also go with the CE Smith Offset Spare Tire Mount # CE27310G.
