Hey Ted, this is a great question but the bunks that come with the Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer # MAL73FR that you referenced do not come with the brackets mounted so its up to you exactly how they end up getting placed when you install them. The instructions do not specify exactly where you need to place them but overall the bunks that come with this are 7 feet long.

I may not have asked my question clearly. First, I have the MPG585 EcoLight trailer by Malone and have the bunk kit. There are 2 of the covered 7 foot bunks that I will install. I am a novice at this, so bear with me. I am trying to determine how much of the bunk should extend past the frame in the back. Is there a standard length? I am going to be hauling a Hobie 12' Outback peddle drive fishing kayak. So should the bunks extend 1 or 2 or 3 feet off the back of the trailer frame? I hope that makes my question clearer, I can not find any reference on this and of course various types of trailers may vary too. But some guidance would be appreciated.
