Question:

Have a Malon Eco light trailer SKU MPG586XB. Rated for a 14 kayak. I now have a 166 kayak, can I extend the tongue and use it for the 166 kayak?

Hey Tom. I'm not sure what you mean by extend the tongue but your 166" kayak is going to fit great on the Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer for a Heavy Kayak item # MAL73FR which is your pn MPG586XB.

Like you said the Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer item # MAL73FR works with kayaks up to 14' long.

What kind of kayak do you have?

Jerred H : My son has a 16-1/2 FT sea kayak, with 2 seats. The Malone EcoLight has a length of 10'6" with a 90" 2 pc tongue. The old XtraLight Low Max had a length of 12' and up to 17' kayak, also a 2pc 90" tongue, the MicroSport is 13'3" and a 20' kayak max length. So can I extend the tongue and put a 16'6" kayak on the Eco Light? Thanks Tom

@TomF Thanks for all of that additional information. I checked with Malone and there's no way to extend the tongue on their EcoLight model trailers like your item # MAL73FR.

Jerred H. PS the 16'6" will be on J rack, we also may be adding a 10' kayak or put it on the roof of his car. The 16'6'' is a bit much for the roof. thanks Tom

@TomF Hopefully, you've got a decent sized vehicle because the 16' 6" long kayak is not going to be compatible with the Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer item # MAL73FR. Do you need a roof rack? If so I would just need to know the year, make, and model of your vehicle and if it has any factory side rails.
