Can LowBed Conversion Tube Be Used On Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer

Updated 11/10/2025 | Published 04/20/2025

Question:

Will Malone MicroSport to LowBed Trailer Conversion Support Tubes Part Number: MAL33TR work with the Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer for a Heavy Kayak Part Number: MAL73FR? Assuming so, what size u-bolts or part number attach the support tubes to the trailer frame? Thanks in advance

Hey Dean,

Since the Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer # MAL73FR uses a different crossbar design. the frame just isn't really set up to be able to use the MicroSport to LowBed Conversion Tubes # MAL33TR cleanly.

Could you possibly make it happen? Probably (not much can't be done with a good U-Bolt), but it's not something that Malone is going to give the okay on and anything that goes wrong wouldn't be covered under warranty. Are you finding the height on the EcoLight a bit too much for loading up your kayaks?

You could potentially grab something like the Kayak/Canoe Cart # MAL29AR to help with transport and getting it up and onto the trailer. I attached a picture that shows how it could be used to better set it up for back pain-free loading.

Hey Dean, Did you find a way to make the Malone EcoLight Sport Trailer work for your heavy kayak? I'm curious if the kayak cart suggestion helped with loading, as it might be useful for others facing similar challenges.

@ChrisR. The easiest way to make an ecolight into a lowbed is to simply lower the posts that attach the rails to the trailer. I just used the upper hole for the ubolt and drilled a hole above it.

@JeremyW Thanks, Jeremy, that’s a great tip! Lowering the posts and redrilling sounds like a clean solution to get the EcoLight lower for easier loading.
